There are some actors or actresses that elicit a meh response whenever I hear they are cast in a drama or movie. Choi Kang Hee is one of them and honestly it’s not because she’s a bad actress. It’s due to her owning the quirky field and being so hard to cast right, I loved her in Protect the Boss and that’s about it. With that said, this sounds like a really promising casting of her in the upcoming KBS Wed-Thurs drama Mystery Queen. She plays a girl who grew up loving mystery novels but ended up living an ordinary housewife life, but armed with a lifetime of deductive reasoning skills that she puts to use when she starts to assist a hardworking detective in cracking his cases. This actually sounds more J-dorama set up than the usual K-dramas but I love the housewife Sherlock Holmes set up and think Choi Kang Hee would be perfect for the role. Mystery Queen takes over in late March from Chief Kim.

Joining Choi Kang Hee in Mystery Queen is likely Kwon Sang Woo, an unexpected pairing I can see the different auras meshing nicely. Mystery Queen is directed by the PD of Healer and Good Doctor so KBS is definitely delivering it’s finest directorial talent behind the camera for this.
