Naver Suspends Entertainment Article Comments and Related Search Teams, Sooyoung Supportive to Lesson Celebrity Negative Commentary
Ever since the spate of K-star suicides at the end of 2019, there has been a genuine reflection in the industry and with K-netizens. That why it’s no surprise that one of the largest news portals in South Korea Naver announced that it was suspending the comment function in all entertainment news articles, in addition to disabling related word searches for celebrities. Daum has already done this and Kakao Talk also disabled related word searches. SNSD member Sooyoung who was good friends with deceased fellow SM label mate Sulli posted in support of this move which uses takes away technology because some people can’t behave themselves. Ultimately the mental health of stars is vital enough to lesson some communal value in commentary on news articles.
Sooyoung said “the child who lived spectacularly like a wave, now became the sea wall.”
It’s sad that it took death(s) for such thing to change, but at least something is being done.
I hope it’s the k-fans culture that changes, aside from these social media platforms changes. I was actually very surprised that fans can be very toxic in Korea. Living the celebrity life must be very hard for the korean artists and celebrities.

Navers bully will all go to Nate and the website is much wost. Naver comments is much better compared to that site.
Haters will go to Nate, but Naver does the right thing. We say the comments on Naver are better just because most of the people there are not teens and react more mature. But still – in comments people allow themselves to offend celebrities for their looks, life choices and even for mental health. Also rumors are spreaded like “I heard this and that…”. Then other media say “The reaction of netizen was not positive” and repeat all lies. Vicious circle. Comments are not a sociological survey!
I am sure people will find online places to keep discussing stars.
The good thing is that their opinion will not stay forever under a news about someone who may prove them wrong!
