Musical The Phantom of the Opera was my entry into the world of stage where it’s been a lifelong love affair. The score and songs remain excellent to this day but once I got older I realized how sus the entire story was haha. Everyone loved the Phantom over lame Raoul but honestly the former was basically groomer/kidnapper. Anyhoo, the South Korean stage is doing a revival in 2023 starring actor Jo Seung Woo, who is as famous as stage as he is in dramas/film. The promos are out and I both swooned at his uber handsome Phantom but also LOL’d at how his Phantom is not massively disfigured. Like, he just looks like a bad boy dude living under the opera house rather than a grotesque figure of pain and pride. I guess the whole he’s so ugly he can’t see the light of day part will just be imagined heh.

If he can’t stand to act the role as it should be, he should not act it. The vanity is insane.
Jo Seung-woo is a familiar face in the musical circuit. He’s pretty much considered royalty by musical fans. It’s just that the *promos* of South Korean productions of “The Phantom of the Opera” don’t show the actors who play The Phantom with a mask. Maybe it’s because they fear that the actors might not be instantly recognizable to prospective viewers, especially to non-regular spectators of musicals.
I mean, if the Phantom looked like this, he definitely wouldn’t be living in the catacombs of an opera house.
SWOON. He looks fab. I’m guessing someone thought it would be a shame to disfigure/cover up that face for promos…and I would tend to agree. LOL. Everyone probably knows this story by now. The production itself will probably still keep him behind a mask – true to the story.
I for one love the poster because I’m a huge fan of him since Stranger. Masked up/not masked up…dont care. Wish I was in Korea so I could attend!
not people thinking it was the ACTOR choice to look “good” (he is actually pretty laidback in real life lol)
korea lookism is huge, I bet they want a “handsome” phantom to atract people, they don’t need, because they have freaking jo seung woo but it’s south korea and they need the character/actors to look handsome/pretty.
He is the face of the Phantom of The Opera in SK
Idk why there is comment saying how he can’t act
I have loved his work since Marathon. He is such a talent, wonderful to watch. I wish i could be in SK to attend. With or without a mask it would be a pleasure to watch and listen to him sing. Does anyone know if they will do a soundtrack to it?
