It’s sad that Disney+ hasn’t made any headway in South Korea K-drama land despite having a built in brand name with a portfolio of popular Hollywood movies and TV shows to surround its investment into exclusive K-dramas. I’ve heard some have been good but nothing has made a splash in greater buzz, perhaps Snowdrop was as close as it got. The latest arrival is probably the most star studded with supernatural school and conspiracy drama Moving starring Ryu Seung Ryong, Jo In Sung, Han Hyo Joo, Cha Tae Hyun, Ryu Seung Bum, and Kim Sung Kyun as the adults and the high school students are played by Lee Jung Ha, Go Yoon Jung, and Kim Do Hoon. I’m waiting for the first reviews as the drama dropped the first episodes this week and with it the two A-list stars Jo In Sung and Han Hyo Joo get their own Bazaar Korea pictorial in a pairing that was bound to happen as both were super popular drama actors in the same gen.
Disney+ does such a crap job of promoting their k dramas. I didn’t even know this was coming out and this is as A list as you can get.
It’s ironic how Disney – of all companies – seem to not understand the power of marketing. Anyway I’m hoping this is good because I absolutely adore the cast. JIS hasn’t done a drama in god knows how many years too.
THAT’s Han Hyo Joo?!?! Never would have recognized her. And am I the only one that thinks they made her look kinda Caucasian?
Nah. She just has a Jane Birkin sort of styling with a very discreet eye makeup. She looks fantastic.Jo In Sung gives Serge Gainsbourg vibes too. Very nice. I’ll look for more pictures to see if there really was a 70s concept like that.
Jane Birkin, may her RIP ,had an unique aura . She was a natural and free spirit woman . A kind soul . Nothing in common with this photoshoot of Han hyo Joo . Jo In Sung is miles away of Serge Gainsbourg who was an alcoholic artist ,big smoker, who didn’t show a clean image . But attracted many icones as Brigitte Bardot, Catherine Deneuve, Isabelle Adjani, Vanessa Paradis, Juliette Greco,… Han Hyo Joo doesn’t even give a Charlotte Gainsbourg vibe in this photoshoot . Both are too Korean stars . The concept may be more “natural” but that’s all . It’s just that French celebrities show a more cool and natural side ( wrinkles, unperfect skin, …) as Sophie Marceau , Romain Duris ( who is about the same age of Lee Byung Hun) .
I never said she didn’t look good. Just doesn’t look like herself at all.
As for the Jane Birkin esthetic, “mouais, bof” as we say in French.
Jo In Sung as Serge Gainsbourg? Give me a break. Serge always had that disheveled hair and 5 o’clock shadow, with a cig hanging from his lips or between his fingers.
As Cahill eloquently said above, Jo In Sung is miles away from that look. He looks way too clean cut.
Les stars koréennes avec leur looks hyper stylés et maquillage impécable n’ont rien à voir avec le naturel des célébrités Françaises des années 60-70.
Pour cette séance photos, ils ont tout simplement essayé de reproduire ce naturel, tant bien que mal.
Exactement, même si j’aime regarder les dramas coréens , les acteurs et actrices sont toujours impeccables . Cela fait partie de leur “entertainment” les acteurs français , belges, m^me s’il’s ont parfois recours à la chirurgie ou autres interventions, se montrent plus naturelles . Il n’y a qu’à voir les audiences des chaines nationales Corinne Masiero, Audrey Fleurot, Cécile Blois, Lola Dewaere, Samuel Le Bihan,Bruno Debrandt, seraient massacrés en Corée du sud ( âge, surpoids, rides,…) et pourtant ils atteignent des ratings comme on en voit plus sur les chaines coréennes . Ils ne parlent que de Timothée Chalamet, mais les acteurs français ce n’est pas ça , ceux sont Vincent Lacoste, Pierre Miney, et bien d’autres qui ne sont pas des statues grecques mais des acteurs aux multiples charmes , Romain Duris,Tomer Sisley, . Ils peuvent sortir, se marier, divorcer avec qui ils veulent, tout le monde s’en fout ! Les acteurs Coréens sont hélas brimés en partie à cause de l’adulation de leurs fans obsédés par la beauté . Triste . Je ne suis pas belge mais j’adore Virginie Efira, Benoit Poelvoorde , François Damiens,…
I think it’s the messy bangs which distract from the eye shape. She looks amazing no matter the styling and is, for my money, the most beautiful Korean actress.
It’s funny to watch them on pictures, because in the drama they didn’t share a scene for now.
This is the first Disney Kdrama that they’ve actually promoted in a reasonable way. They’ve been posting on their social media, put up ads on public transit, had a blue carpet presscon, and there was even an article in Newsweek (US news weekly, not an entertainment tabloid) about it. It’s even available in the US at the same time it’s airing in Korea (on Hulu, not Disneyplus, but hey, it’s there!) Until now, most Disney Kdramas have been aired only very locally, and months later, they show up on Disney channels in other regions. It was *quite* expensive to make Moving, so I think maybe they finally realized they needed to do a spot of promo.
There are a lot of big names in it! The first 7 episodes (focused on the high school generation) came out last week. Now it’s 2 episodes a week for a total of 20, and next up is the focus on the parent generation and their backstory. So far I think they’ve done a good job. The action/violence scenes are ummm squelchier than I’m used to see in a Kdrama, but there are plenty of warm scenes between parents and children (one of the main themes of the drama).
