Getting popular in another country usually takes one mega hit project and for K-actresses it’s being in a K-drama that happens to be super popular in that country for whatever reason, sometimes even more popular that domestically. But staying on top needs continuous string of good projects after that and for actress-singer IU she’s a double threat with her acting projects and music so in the 2023 poll of Japan audiences’ favorite K-actress she takes the top spot. Apparently the reason she vaulted from 3 last year to 1 this year is also because she went public with dating Lee Jong Seok who is himself super popular in Japan. Good to know for once dating helps with popularity lol. Second place is perennial top 3 in any J-list Park Min Young, with Song Hye Kyo rounding out in the 3rd spot. Then comes Park Eun Bin who has the legs to stay high over here with Kim Yoo Jung in the 5th position. After that it’s Son Ye Jin, Kim Ji Won, Seo Hyun Jin, Lee Sung Kyung, and Yoona.
I miss her. Need her to make a comeback to kdramas because it’s been years since her last one…

Off of topic, but can someone tell me about Yoon Eun Hye . Already 8 years since her scandal, and she isn’t returning in dramaland . I don’t read any asian languages, so i don’t know much about what’s going on , but last year she was still in the top 10 of the favorite korean actresses in Japan . All people with scandals are returning with successful (or not) projects but not her ? Is she still blacklisted ( which would be completely unfair) or is it her own choice ? Did she announced retirement ? I’m lost because i miss her so much . When i see others actresses that i like in dramas and not her , i’m really sad because she was my first favorite korean actress and even if they are a lot of better actresses , i never found one with such an unique aura and photogenic side .
I’m waiting for her return too. Her last drama was ‘Fluttering Warning’ and that was five years ago. She’s definitely not cancelled since she’s steadily had guest appearances on numerous variety shows over the years and was a regular member of two including one just last year. The Coffee Prince reunion definitely got my hopes up that she’d be the lead of a major upcoming drama, but nothing happened after that. I have wanted a drama reunion with her and Gong Yoo for years. I would love to see them in something with the tone of Something In the Rain, One Spring Night, and My Mister. I think she needs to comeback and have her own hit drama before a reunion with him though. A buzzworthy ensemble drama would be great for her. Less pressure with her not having to carry the drama by herself. I just hope she hits the jackpot with her next drama if she does comeback.
She’s more of variety show’s star now,she’s constantly on TV just no drama,its her own choice.
