C-ent Industry Insider Says The Prisoner of Beauty with Liu Yu Ning and Song Zu Er Tentatively Scheduled to Air February 2024 on Tencent

So this is the latest and greatest on the airing date for The Prisoner of Beauty. I’m still on the buzz from marathoning the novel, it’s really addicting and the good outweighs the bad parts of it so I’m definitely wanting the drama to air as soon as possible. C-ent insiders are saying it’s now on deck at Tencent for a February 2024 drop, which is next month and I’m guessing sneaking it in after lunar new year. Accounts saying that the industry remains on wait and see with female lead Song Zu Er’s tax evasion allegations but since she has not be banned, formally or shadow, by the government then it’s fine to release the drama. Male lead Liu Yu Ning remains on a hot streak after A Journey to Love so Tencent wants to release the drama now in case things change in the longer term future.

C-ent Industry Insider Says The Prisoner of Beauty with Liu Yu Ning and Song Zu Er Tentatively Scheduled to Air February 2024 on Tencent — 13 Comments

  1. Really!! Great. I really find the whole Song Zu’er case really unjust and full of questions. I really hope she does not get banned.

  2. Some accounts are saying basically this film has passed censorship, in Feb Tencent plans to release all episodes at once with no publicity and not getting sponsorship first, and purely selling ad space… just to stem losses and just in case of any further untoward developments with the ongoing investigation..but it takes a lot of steel to do that

    • This is actually a good daring plan. Release all the episodes at once, at least they can cut some loss and if SZE is found guilty then they would at least not lose much

  3. I tried the novel and didnt like it. ML is essentially a warlord and hes wither cold or dismissive of FL for like the entirety of the story and only changed towards the later part (and I mean really late). Not sure if drama version makes ML more likable and for him to suffer and wallow more.

    • “hes wither cold or dismissive of FL for like the entirety of the story”

That’s really not accurate. It’s fine if you didn’t like the novel, or the ML, but you’re either too biased to review the objective plot progression fairly or are lacking in reading comprehension skills.
The ML was 12 when his father and elder brother were slaughtered on the battlefield (along with most of their army) because FL’s grandfather, who was an official ally and was supposed to fight alongside them in that battle, flinched at the last moment and, by not joining the fight as agreed, caused the ML’s father and brother’s needless tragic deaths.
The ML lost his most important family members and support system and had his life fall apart, so if he grew up hating the spineless traitor responsible (who never even showed remorse, much less try to make reparations afterward) and, per ancient tradition (guilt by association), also hated all of his descendants, isn’t it understandable?

So this feudal warlord, who’s been planning rightful revenge for years against his father’s killer–how warm and fluffy should he have immediately treated his new (gorgeous but ice-cold) wife, the granddaughter of said enemy? The FL herself is an authentic aristocratic woman of her time–is loyal to her family, plotting to increase their battle capability (against the ML, her husband), and never opens herself emotionally to the ML until after he vows to let go of his revenge plans against her family (and as thanks, he gets backstabbed by h’s elders one more time). In brief, the ML starts out cold toward the FL, but she stays cold toward him deep inside for much longer (also perfectly reasonable in context–because she’s scared for her family and can’t trust him).

But this novel has more than 160 chapters, and by chapter 71, the ML already knows himself emotionally entangled in the FL (thought still fighting it), and in chapter 89 he is speaking with her sweetly. Also just barely after this half-way point of the novel (chapter 91), the ML is already promising the FL to share this county with her (to make her his Empress after he becomes Emperor). They still have unresolved conflicts in the second half, ups-and-downs and fights/reconciliations, but I never saw the FL as a victim, as she always gave back as good as she got. And this exactly might be the real essential point where I differ with Sharreb, thus our takeaway from the novel being so diametrically opposed. She just perceived the power imbalance (the ML, as the head of the household, occupied the dominant position in their relationship–at first sight) whereas I was more interested in how tiny “powerless” her brought him to his knees (figuratively and literally).

      • Hmmm, interesting! Did we read the same novel? Why do I feel your synopsis more interesting than the story depicted by the novel itself? LOL.

I’m pretty indifferent to LYN and SZE. I decided not to watch this drama cos the novel is just another recycle of many typical revenge tropes in a lot of C web novels I read years ago. Perhaps I should still check out the drama and see if LYN and SZE are worth the buzz.

      • Honestly, your thoughts are exactly as mine. Yes, he can be a jerk at times and he is selfish where he sees only his pain and not hers, but his reason for hating her is justifiable. He’s fighting against his growing feelings for her and guilt towards his family while she chooses to be indifferent because of her fear for the past him. Her knowing the future is to her advantage but also a disadvantage because she thinks that he won’t ever change and will turn into that killing machine that he is thus she’s not willing to break down his walls. Both are not perfect.

  4. what a shame. this drama will easily be a big hit if the tax scandal does not happen ugh. it giving me love like the galaxy vibe.

  5. Read a little bit of the book and I have to agree with Koala, they are perfectly cast!

Hope this gets to air. Looks really good and she is stunning here!
