I think after a few well made dramas for Zhang Ling He, namely My Journey to You and Story of Kunning Palace last year and in 2022 there was Love Between Fairy and Devil, whether as supporting or as male lead he’s been in enough hits to not be considered trying hard and not having results. I say this because there are even more Zhang Ling He dramas slated for this year 2024 and one of them is The Princess Royal (also known as The Grand Princess with the Chinese title Du Hua Nian). The female lead is Zhao Jin Mai who has only done one other period drama and is more known for her modern works. I think both look fantastic in character and he’s so tall and she’s so tiny I can’t wait for sparks to fly onscreen.
Imagine how good most of the ‘forever supporting cast’ actors would be if someone let them be main leads.
Haha aesthetically, Zhao Jin Mai isn’t my cup of tea, but I think she can act decently, right?
@Coralie, I have only watched her in a couple of modern dramas, she can deliver…but in period, I dont know. The headwear does look big for her…
I am keen to watch how this 2 lead act with each other… Zhang Ling He had been pairing with afew more experienced actress…we might see his growth in this drama…

I’ve only seen ZJM in reset but really liked her in there. When I first saw her, I didn’t see her as the beautiful type but her acting was really natural and won me over as a fan. Totally looking forward to this drama and pair! Hopefully, it’s good because I’m in the middle of reading the novel too.
I will give a shot to any ZLH’s dramas cos he impressed me in his debut Maiden Holmes. I’ve never finished any of his dramas though. Perhaps I should pick up Maiden Holmes again given that there’s nothing much interesting to watch now. All the dramas of ZJM so far were boring to me, nothing to do with her acting or visuals but the plots and something else failed me. I’m still looking forward to her drama with Wu Lei shot in Finland.

He is a mediocre actor and she can’t carry him. Another flop destined for water and more water injections.
