First Official Stills of C-drama Legend of the Female General with Zhou Ye and Cheng Lei as it Wraps Filming
Well C-actor Cheng Lei certainly has parlayed his chemistry laden supporting male lead turn in My Journey to You last you into an even smexier male lead upgrade in the just finished filming period C-drama Legend of the Female Lead. With that title and top billed female lead Zhou Ye as a strong female-centric story, I’m here for Cheng Lei to see if he can hold the court as male lead and whether he can do more than just plot and brood beautifully. The drama released its first official stills this week to celebrate the end of filming after five months and these two leads definitely deliver in visuals separately and together.
I read 3/4 of the novel. Both really fit the character visually. I am happy both look good enough so I try not to worry too much about the acting. As can be seen from the pictures, it’s an action packed story…. I wonder if they will have two female characters due to the transmigration factor or they will keep Zhou Ye playing two roles.
Can’t believe I’m the only one unimpressed and unconvinced by Cheng Lei. He’s not even good looking and has no charisma to play male leads. All that “hype” with the supporting actress in MJTY is nothing but paid mediaplay. Poor Esther and ZLH being used and stepped on by these shameless ambitious supporting actors. Zhou Ye is def cute though. Too bad legit good actors won’t accept 2nd billing so she has to settle with this guy

Esther and ZLH are doing more than fine. You truely do not care about them because you do not know they are doing more than fine.
If you were smart and intelligent I’d tell you to wait for CL’s performance and judge him on that.

I agree with that. OP opinion is incredibly biased. I don’t really think the main leads in JTY was all that great either, supporting actors were more interesting and the support was evidently there, why people criticize like “poor leads” got their limelight stolen by the supporting characters. Seriously, it reeks of negativity as this drama hasn’t even aired and they are already at it. I can see them already hoping he’ll fail. I’m glad there is other people, including myself who are willing to give CL a chance to see his performance as the lead, then judge.

I love the novel but I already know they have changed stuff so I’m waiting anxiously to watch what they’ve changed. I do not hate for not following the novel but I do hate bad changes so hopefully the changes are good.
I do not have really serious worries for the acting. Cheng Lei have done decent to good performances is his dramas. The only one who makes me worry but not that much is ZY because she always have to look pretty and can’t emote very well in emotional scenes. The other actors are fine.
I love this novel very much too. But will try not to link drama with novel in case I get disappointed… Will watch as it is.
I like be this novel but she is a terrible, uncharismatic actress and he isn’t impressing me either. It’s about her anyway and no way will she able to carry this work.
I am genuinely sad such a good novel got these two.
I’m not gonna defend ZY because I’ve my own doubts about her as an actress which I’ve already shared here.
I think if you’re mentally capable (smart and intelligent) you should wait to watch LOTFG and make judgements after watching it.

CL is quite new actor with few not promoted web dramas behind his back before gaining fame with MJTY. I’m sure you never knew about him before and never watched him before his fame with MJTY neither watched his past perfomances after his fame in MJTY. He is not an extraordinary actor but in China nobody truely really is.
There are plenty of great, extraordinary actors in China. It’s not their problem you don’t move past idol dramas so please don’t insult people for your own limitations.

I’m tuning in for Cheng Lei to see how he’ll do too! The first time I saw him in Queen of Attack, I thought he was not visually pleasing, but he looked way better in A Familiar Stranger. Did not tune in for MJTY, but looking forward to this drama. Wish the same could happen to Richard Li Fei!
I didn’t even watch the full drama he was in with LYX and fell under their spell just from cuts alone. He was smouldering there and just exudes so much simmering alpha-male energy I’m hoping he parlays it to good use in future roles. He looks sooooo good in this so I hope ZY and him have decent chemistry and she does not overact here. Please lock him in Hengdian for more period dramas in the next few years! We need more mature handsome men with alpha energy in period C-drama land!
