First Batch of Chinese Stars Hit Cannes 2024 with Gong Li, Guan Xiaotong, Eddie Peng, and Tong Li Ya

The 2024 Cannes Film Festival just started on Tuesday May 14th so there are plenty more days and events to see celebs including the ones from China, Taiwan, or Korea that are expected to show for their movies or sponsor related appearances. The first two says the Chinese stars in the red carpet were Gong Li, Guan Xiaotong, Tong Li Ya, and Eddie Peng, so an eclectic group for sure. Eddie was perfectly dapper in his suit and looking great these days. Gong Li has reached Queen Emeritus status and can wear whatever she wants lol, and between Guan Xiaotong and Tong Li Ya I thought the former’s look was prettier and but the latter styled her hair and makeup beautifully to match her gown which looked like dragon scales.

  1. It was really funny to see other photos where you can see none of the photographers actually cared about them except the one taking the pic, everyone else is turned away. Nobody knows who these people are. Or cares.

    • A lot of them just had their cameras hanging on their necks, not even holding in their hands looool. It’s a little sad.

      • you expect the photographers to snap photos of theirs back? seriously haters always has something negative to say. lmao. feels pity for both of you may be due to your upbringging, always hate hate hate. lmao

      • @vlive

        Are you stupid?

The photographers turned their backs on these “stars” because they don’t know or care about them. These photos are all over Weibo.

    • I am not saying that the photographers actually know Eddie Peng, but in Cannes the stars the red carpet is a long corridor where stars stand one next to the other and they turn from one side to the other. So the photographers take shots of people facing them, and then those people turn the other way to be photographed by the photographers on the other side. Also, photographers take photos of literally anyone even if they have no idea who they are, and then sort them out.

      • I’ve been to Cannes and no, the photographers who matter don’t take photos of everyone.

Those working for Asian markets will pay attention to people like cent celebs. That’s all. Nobody else cares. It’s only when names like Fan bingbing or Zhang Ziyi show up or something of the big directors that the others pay attention.

And the red carpet in Cannes is not long at all.

      • Also, from the video I posted above it is obvious that photographers don’t take photos of people’s backs, even if it’s Meryl Streep. Now, once again, with the exception of Gong Li none of these people are really famous in the west. But the fact that photographers don’t care about taking photos of their backsides is not a proof.

      • @Nena

Who said anything about taking photos of their backsides? Is your reading comprehension at the level of kindergarten? Photographers turned their backs on the “stars”, not the other way around. Those photographs are looking at Meryl because she is Meryl. With the Chinese “stars” they turned away to photograph others or put their cameras down. Weibo is full of wide shots that show this. You are just going to have to cope with reality.

And no, it’s not long. This red carpet is nothing compared to the big events in Hollywood.

Stop writing lies and I assure you, you are an absolute nothing to me.

    • I dont find this is funny but sad but even known star like Fan Bingbing didn’t get photographers’ attention once and had to throw her bracelet on them to make them take some shots

  2. It says a lot about China’s drama/movie industry on an international scale. It’s still the HK stars that’s well known. Nonetheless, there are photographers too who are there to represent Asian content and sells their photo to Asia media.

  3. Thank you, Koala, for the pictures. Really enjoy them!

The lack of photographers’ attention towards the non-Hollywood actors/entertainers is expected, not surprising at all. Doesn’t only happen to Chinese actors, but also those from other countries.

This said, since I love Cdramas/movies and I follow their news, I’m thrilled to see news and pictures of C-actresses redcarpets, as well as those from my own country. And C-actresses never fail in that department!

  4. I miss seeing Eddie. I wish he would do more dramas. I love his character in SOTD. LSS and him have great chemistry.

  5. There are La montée des marches, and “the photo call” for the cast of movies . Photographers are from various international medias but only the great stars are blinded by photo flashes . Even some french actors who are less known receive the same treatment as asians , europeans,…No need to feel offended .

  6. This is what happens when your industry is big enough so you don’t prioritize the international market. People outside of Asia don’t know about these celebs, so most of them show up for the red carpet as ambassadors for certain brands or if their team got them in with money. Only a few are there for their own works. Most are there for PR in their glamorous dresses, they’re essentially just models during the Cannes Film Festival period.

  7. Here are some actors and actresses; having the days and nights of their lives, popular and well known in their own country and industry for being good artists with reasonable reach overseas ( enough to be invited and present in international festivals ), looking good in nice suits and beautiful dresses and feeling good about themselves, getting good money and exposure, etc…yet there are people who find negativity even in this and feed on it….that is what I believe to be sad.( and I’m not chinese or asian to be ‘offended’)

    • What i was trying to say @Eloise is (as a french myself ) only Hollywood stars are “over photographed” . Some are complaining that their actors aren’t known but i could say the same , do chinese, americans, …know who are Pierre Niney, Virginie Efira, Benoit Magimel, Vincent Lacoste, Audrey Fleurot,…I don’t think so . And i don’t feel “offended” neither .

  8. If @Hl is reading this post , i don’t know if you have seen Greta Gerwig wearing a dress from the last collection of Margiela by John Galliano . I know that you mentioned the collection a few time ago .

    • Yes I have!!! Greta is a big fan of John Galliano… He designs interesting outfits for her built. Like you, I too no longer follow fashion as I did when i was younger…but John Galliano is one of the rare few haute couture designer of these era..

His latest show under the Paris Bridge is just wow…I noticed many designers are including models of different built, sexuality..but many looks so staged. John Galliano can just include everyone seamlessly…

      • Yes, the french reporters wrote that it was the most well made fashion show from the last 5 years , Greta wore one of the dresses which was a bold decision asthe others choose to wear creations which are altered to suit the actresses or the ceremonies . i’m not anymore much into fashion , but a long time ago , les maisons de couture used to adapt the creations for the US market, i don’t know if they still do ?

  9. Love Eddie Peng! Always looking good. Also missing Wei Wuji whenever I see him.

Maybe he’ll come back to dramaland one day. One day…
