If you asked me at the beginning of 2024, I certainly would not have put “loving a Yu Zheng produced C-drama” on my drama bingo. And yet here we are and I am so addicted to The Double it’s not even funny, and it doesn’t have have romance yet through episode 25! More than halfway done and the OTP hasn’t even had a conversation that isn’t laced in double entendres but they make up for it with so much eye-sexing and mutually aware understanding. Leads Wu Jin Yan and Wang Xing Yue show what good acting can create in terms of chemistry by first playing their own characters to perfection and letting the audience see that these two would totally fall for each other in a slow burn way. If you haven’t checked out The Double yet get on that wagon now because live watching this baby hurts so good and I have on good accounts that the comeuppance coming for all the baddies (stepmom, princess, murdery ex-husband, greedy minister) will be so satisfying.

I’ve been hooked on The Double but they only released one episode today. I got an idea of what’s going to happen by watching the trailer for episode 27 and 28, but who knows, The Double has had certain interesting plot twists.

the longest promise and legend of shenli were both boring af despite higher budget and better looking leads (xz and zly). a good script/story beats big budget or looks any day. just look at 2024’s biggest flop, fox spirit matchmaker.

The Double far exceeds the Longest Slog as far as entertainment value, and yes, eye candy. Haven’t seen Legend of Shen Li yet, but your endorsement only moves it further down the list.

If you can’t point out what’s wrong with Wang Xing Yue’s acting in The Double, why mention the two actors if you don’t have an argument in the first place? We know his acting is not terribly stunning, but he IS carrying himself nicely. He has shown charisma and a good presence even though he does not share the same screen time as Wu Ji Yan because it is a female-centric type of drama.

I understand that this is a low-budget production, but aren’t there any professionals in the make-up team? In some scenes Wang Xing Yue’s face looks pale in contrast to his neck, also his eyebrows are overdone in the first episodes. He has naturally thick eyebrows, why apply products there? Bad makeup has been bothering me lately not only here.
It seems to be a habit of his team not knowing how to play with his features.
He is an unexpected underdog, I didn’t think he was going to be impressive. But I’m glad that he began to take his acting profession seriously and not just living off his looks – there are already enough models reading scripts. If he stays consistent, he will definitely become an IT star. I also like the fact that he dubs himself, it was interesting to watch the video and listen to his ideas.

I just watched the 1st episode and I loved it. Great story telling and I love the horror movie vibe. Very entertaining. I love the close ups and the rapid editing of the fight scenes. This director is very inspired by Wong Kar Wai and Tsui Hark!
The leading lady is great and I liked all the other actors. I am loving the pace and the mood. It’s so nice to be addicted to a C-drama after a long time.

Really enjoying this drama! Totally agree with Koala about playing their own characters to perfection. I never wondered why they were attracted to eachother, it just made sense to me! Wu Jingyan is perfect here. She is one of the few actresses that convincingly pulls off an intelligent female lead!
He has sharp features and looks intense. She looks like her usual self, bored. Her acting is one note even in photoshoots.

I think WXY has an extraordinary gift with his voice. There’s a clip of him doing live streaming with WJY, the FL of the Double. WJY aske him to showcase the way he called out “Ah Li,” WJY’s name in the drama, in different mood. He demonstrated at least 5 different voice tones implying 5 different mood. They all sounded amazing. I didn’t pay much attention to that when he spoke that way in the drama cos there were just too much going on to wrap up my mind just around him alone. LOL. But I did see his talent with discernible emotions in his lines.
WXY has great potential, a whole package to become next top actor. I already have a fave in the generation of 30+. I haven’t been able to root for any younger one in their 20+. I think I’ll closely watch his career development, hopefully he isn’t just a one-time fluke like many others with only one breakout hit. I hope he will get very interesting projects to hone his acting skills to be really great. .
Now, he’s trending top 1 on Weibo per the volume of discussions about celebrities. That’s good for him to have breakout popularity so that he may get attention and therefore interesting projects in the future. I hope he won’t be Dylan Wang 2.0 etc.. LOL. Sorry DW’s fans. @Somebody I just limit myself to appreciating his work in The Double because I used to be excited about actors/actresses, but today, they are part of the talentless star pile. I should also point out that Wang Xing Yue’s previous performances were not good, I won’t allow myself to get thrilled without getting enough evidence.
I don’t exactly have favorites. There are artists I like, but I have no interest in being part of any fandom and what goes with it.
Dylan Wang has been inconsistent long enough.
One can see a boy who at least worked hard on his line delivery. In “The Double” he changes his voice tone to fit the sensual flirty and unhindged male lead persona. The first time he called the FL Ah li he lowered his voice tone a lil bit cause Xiao Heng wanted to seduce her.
&C, I have a fave and follow him constantly but not his fandom. Chinese fandoms are so toxic that I don’t want to associate myself with them. I just watch their online activities in a distance. LOL. My fave’s performances prior to his huge breakout hit were not impressive either except for his good looks that ppl always raved about. LOL. He had been taking supporting roles for a while, some of which were as insignificant close to extras. But he was mesmerizing the first time taking that major lead role and he’s the major reason why that drama has been so popular until now and continues to gain new fans internationally. He’s 10 yrs older than WXY and before him there was Hu Ge whom I also consider a very good actor.
I have the same expectation over WXY cos I saw similar acting talent and the whole package in all these three. WXY just needs to keep up with this momentum . His subsequent projects won’t necessarily be popular, like which was the case for my fave. But I hope he has the same wisdom and tenacity as my fave to choose a variety of genres to hone his acting skills and expand his acting range, overcoming demand and different voices from his own team to go different routes that won’t do him any good besides milking a lot of money out of his fame.
The last but not the least, I hope he puts more weight and fat on his face, PLZ. LOL

I hope Wang Xing Yue is not going to film non-stop, one good production a year is enough for his career. One of the actors I used to follow has three or four dramas every year, but they don’t contribute anything, neither to raise the level of C-Ent nor to him as an actor lol. All he has is the hype generated by his fandom/his agency.
I also hope WYX doesn’t get pigeonholed into roles similar to Duke Su. I don’t want him to be like Wang Duo , who is a good actor and I consider him underrated, but it’s not him if he doesn’t play similar antagonists. It’s getting boring.
I on the other hand think it’s his body that needs more weight so that there will be a balance. His face has distinctive features, some people even think he has surgery on it lol.

WXY doesn’t look ever under knives. There seems to be certain patterns of how lips and noses would look like after PS that you can easily tell. Those PS looks appear so generic coming out of the same prototypes. He doesn’t look that way to me. But you’d never know. LOL.
I forgot to write that I always rewatch Nirvana In Fire, The Untamed, Princess Pearl, Empresseses In The Palace and some Chinese movies. I also look forward to rewatching The Double lol.
I tried to watch Rise Of Phoenixes because it had Ni Ni and Chen Kun but the writing was too noticeably flawed to move forward. I appreciate the acting anyway.

There is no way this Wang Xing Yue is the same one who acted in Amidst a Snowstorm of Love. He was so-so there (as if he tried and couldn’t), and here it looks like he is a different person. Lmao. Where did he get his talent now?
Because of The Double, his agency is probably going to turn him into an overexposed actor and I wouldn’t have a problem with that if he continues acting good.
an OK actor can really improve with a director who knows how to highlight an actor’s strong points and play down flaws and also good writing. The actors are good but I want to credit the director for the edgy intense story telling.
That’s their profession, a director shouldn’t be guiding them as they were children. They are supposed to know how to act.
I’d also attribute the huge success of the Double mainly to the writer and the director first, and the acting next. Specifically, I agree the director deserves a large chunk of the credits. But without great acting, charisma online, and incredible chemistry among the cast, the Double wouldn’t be this interesting. There are a few noticeable plot holes that can be overlooked thanks to all the merits outweighing the flaws.
The chemistry between the OTP is swoony even there were still no intimate scenes as of 27-28 eps. That has made the drama a huge difference from other hit dramas such as Joy of Life 1, of which the directing was better than average but the chemistry was mehhh.
As to the most underwhelming and disappointing Amidst a Snowstorm of Love, this entire drama exposed writing issues; the writer seemed to have trouble fleshing out meaningful narratives with which viewers would feel empathetic. The plot lines failed to engage viewers. There was very limited or almost zero story to be told on any character other than the OTP who were also boring to watch. LOL. Not surprising WXY was as if nonexistent in that drama.
I am really enjoying this drama. I am watching from US and have only seen through Episode 10. Platform I watch on only releasing 1 or 2 episodes a day. I am a sucker for romance so disappointed to read no significant romance through episode 28, but WXY’s smoldering looks are certainly promising more. Not seeing the “bad acting” in his performance. I think he is pretty much in character as I understand Duke Su to this point. In any event, I think the writing, directing, and acting are all spot on. I am looking forward to each episode with much anticipation and hoping I don’t lose interest which happened with Legend of Shen Li.
I expect romance to come very soon after ep 28, hopefully and I’m still waiting for the hot sexy scenes. LOL. Nonetheless, there was already flirtation that was swoony worthy. I just don’t remember in which eps. That why C fans have been partying about their chemistry. They don’t need to kiss or roll in bed to look hot and sexy together. LOL
Nope! You won’t see Shen Li 2.0. That drama was overhyped and overrated, not on par with the Double in all aspects at all. Shen Li is the 2nd worst drama of Zhao Liying next to Legend of Fei.
many of wang xing yue’s agency partners started out with good performances and now their level has declined the point where it’s boring to watch them. he on the other hand started out bland but he’s impressive in the double. let’s hope he stays that way to make a difference 😉

The Double is like crack. I can’t stop chasing it. Hadn’t been so intent for the next episode since Love Like The Galaxy. In many ways, Duke Su and his two side-kicks are very similar to General Ling Buyi and HIS two side-kicks.
Besides LHC, I also like Zhang Jing Yi. I appreciate Zhou Ye’s visuals but her acting is weak. She was only decent on Better Days.
Wang Xing Yue has all of that lol. At least now. I’ve see his pre-debut pictures on Weibo and it seems he has the same features. The only difference I can spot is that his skin was more pale in the past. I prefer his skin tone right now lol.
