Lost You Forever Part 2 Airs to Good Viewership But Not as Strong as Part 1 Due to Slower Burn Story Cadence and Even Stronger Audience Preference for the Third Male Lead

The shipping wars during the drama airing for Lost You Forever is nothing compared to what it was like for the novel days. The book was much richer and deeper in detail and yielded very strong opinions on who Xiao Yao loves/should end up with. The two aren’t necessarily the same and during the novel days the shipping was vocal but lobsided – it was overwhelmingly Xiang Liu that most novel readers loved more than Jing, like to a 80-20 split. The airing of LYF Part 1 was less lopsided, I would say 40% Jing to 60% Xiang Liu, but now Part 2 has arrived the split is fast changing to about the same as the novel. It’s not a surprise as the end of Part 1 and beginning of Part 2 is the worst arc for Jing and the only time YaoLiu as a ship was as close it could have been to both throwing caution to the wind and just running off. So without the OTP that was marketed in Part 1 with Xiao Yao and Jing, Part 2 is airing to still strong viewership but not as hot and buzzy as Part 1 because loving Xiang Liu doesn’t make for a very satisfying watch. It’s very masochistic lol. Plus it doesn’t create the CP marketing that helps buoy drama viewers so this Part 2 is lacking that element as well to generate buzz. As a novel fan, the drama continues to be a very good if not perfect adaptation, and the decision to actually show some of Xiang Liu’s inner thoughts and what he does off to the side that Xiao Yao never sees helps really hammer home his character. It takes away the reading between the lines and delivers the inevitably so much more.

  2. Xiang Liu’s tsundere character is very attractive. Tan Jianci delivered this character perfectly. His love and longing for Xiao Yao could be seen in his eyes.

XL is one of my fave novel characters. And TJC makes the justice for it.

I’ll keep watching it and i’ve known for a long time that she will end up with the weak one but still… XL is the soulmate for her.

      • He is special lead role. Not to be labelled as first or second or third. Just special. Haha. First ML is CX. Second is Jing.

      • I dont know, at first i thought he was the male lead. Lost you forever was based on his pov. But, i guess, it’s CX’s. Or probably, both, XL and CX. both deserve to lose her. But my heart still aches for XL. sigh.

      • Billing issues, TJC is at least a second/ equal billing to YZ ahead of the other actors but not the XL role itself, or maybe just to prevent any billing fights with YZ, who’s known to get nasty when it comes to billing. So he’s special lead instead, keeps everyone happy.

      • Woww here is another yangzi fan @guest who loves to spread fake news everytime. Who tf said that TJC is on the same level as YZ???

I hope you find happiness instead of spending your time spreading rumors about someone you don’t like

    • Yes, what strong viewership?? It recently dropped to just 10% market share on Yunhe. Makes me wonder where this information is coming from, like when Koala said The Double will end up with Fox Spirit Matchmaker numbers when it’s in 4th place this year so far and FSMRMP is in 45th.

      • I laugh at you fake ignorance 🤣🤣 trying to mislead ppl. Yes it’s Yunhe droppd but that bcs they didn’t air any new episodes from Friday and new episodes will only come out today Monday. It’s the same ppl like you that will say the drama is water if it’s still no 1 with no new episodes for 3 days but when it drops you are the first to mock it🤦🏾‍♀️ stick to 1 side of the story pls

P.S it still maintained top 3 for 2 days with dramas that are airing while it didn’t air any new episodes

      • People are still in “The Double” maze. I see a lot of FMVs about it on BiliBili for example. Plus the drama being on Netflix now and Wu Jin Yan & Wang Xing Yue recent apparition to the Variety Show “Hello Saturday”/their Harper Bazaar photoshoots released today, still make people feel the heat of “The Double” that ended a month ago. People thought LYF2 would be “The Double” of the month of July, even stronger. But so far we can see, through the numbers on Yunhe, that it is far from being the case. On that matter (Yunhe) dramas released this month have not been doing really good compared to the hit productions of May (JOL2) and June, LYF2 included. I see two things : People still in the Duke Su & Xue Fang Fei dreamland + lost of interest for the drama’s lovestory in itself especially those who do not ship Xiao Yao with Jing at all !

      • @Sirey @Darkangel The Double also dipped after it didn’t have new episodes (because of the ending? the “scandal”? Youku locking a bunch of episodes under VIP? We’ll never know.) But a show with actual strong viewership was The Tale of Rose which maintained its 20%+ market share for days and days without any new episodes.

      • @LMAO the director being obsessed with Bad Endings and not exploiting the explosive chemistry between the leads to the highest, did not help “The Double” viewership for sure, nevertheless one can feel a certain craze for it til date. Something I don’t feel too much about LYF2. I remember last year when S1 aired the heat was everywhere especially on BiliBili. This year feels kinda cold and viewership on yunhe has been rather low (granted this month all dramas that have aired so far have been on the low side on that data particularly)

  3. Spoiler…….

    …….

You know one thing I don’t understand….isn’t the drama following the novel as close as possible and it’s very clear who XY ends up with….But from what I can see….its doesnt matter who is the favorite ML…but some fans want him to magically be the endgame when in cannon material it didn’t happened…so what’s with the disappointment???

The drama literally shows our FL chosing the guy and the life that’s best for her and what she wants….not just randomly going after an impossible love where that person closes their heart towards her and even though chances arrives multiple times where he can face the love he has, he chose his other obligations over her and push her away using mental and even physical abuse…I cant ecxuse his actions even though I knew that was sll excuse for just pushing her away….

even though he helps her in her journey towards a secured love…this just shows not everything one wants they will get in XL case…and somethings are better left in the heart than chase it as it can be your most heartache fall…in XY case….it teaches to chose what’s good for you and not that unpredictable feeling where you have no idea how it may turn out even if it gives you thrill…

XL could never gives XY all she wanted with his own heart so he let her go and helps her instead…that’s the best character development from XL for me…he’s an interesting character…and I want to see how the drama wraps up his story.

  4. Thank you, now I feel less lonely. 🙂

    Spoiler ahead

Xiang Liu is violent (I have never forgiven him for whipping her, almost drowning her and going all vampirish on her without her consent) and never prioritizes her, Cang Xuan is scheming and focuses on the wrong way to protect her. Neither one puts her first and she will always have to watch her back with them. They made their choices and have to live with that.

The only time I ever liked Xiang Liu was when he was acting as Fenfeng Bai. I prefer flirty to violent nutjob. (But the actor is truly great. I look forward to seeing more of him.)

Jing may seem weak, but he doesn’t hurt her, doesn’t scheme against her and she is very clearly his top priority. The FL doesn’t want exciting and unstable, she wants calm and steady.

She was abandoned by her family, tortured by a demon and doesn’t seem to really fit in anywhere in the kingdom. Jing is the only one that can fulfill her conditions of a loving and steady lifelong partnership. It’s like people keep ignoring what the FL actually wants, especially after all she’s been through.

    • I truly understand this point of view, but Jing did hurt her back then. With all his hesitation between his so called fiancee, family and XY. Jing probably had no scheme against her, but he couldnt protect her when she needed it.
But i really really understand why she chooses him at the end.

XL cant give her the life she wants. Both of them know it. All his behaviour in the past cant be justified. But he has his own reasons. (fangirls are always blind, lol)
CX is just the greatest red flag.

In ep 11, XL was there with her. He probably isnt the man she will choose, but deep down in her heart, XL is someone she can talk with, share her burden with… and despite all the schemes he does, she still understands him. Not every soulmate will end up together tho.

  5. I personally find it hard to trust all those rating etc… But those numbers are important for investors. I will just watch drama that interest me, rating really means nothing to me as it will not affect my viewing experience.

Saying that…I have yet to start on this drama..😂😂 Will wait till it completes airing..I am definitely not the type of viewers investors like.

  6. Why ppl believe that she will end up with ANYONE, seeing how sadistic this drama is, she probably will just die and they will add an open ending to not make the fans too pisssed

  7. Drama is lowkeye underperforming when compared to all of the hype and hoopla it generated thanks to the first season that was a hit.

  8. Probably cos the ending is already spoiled, ppl know it follows the book, not much surprises there.. so the hype is not there. I find myself watching just to see the scenes I imagined when reading the book come to life, and never rewatch any of the episodes. They are too depressing for any rewatch. Compared to S1 beginnings when it was more interesting to see the characters getting to know each other and building relationships, S2 is just waiting for it to end.. maybe if they didn’t cut the seasons it would’ve been better, the momentum might still keep ppl watching til the end. Now, most ppl are just waiting for it to end..

  9. The first few eps are a major turn-off. You have everyone moping and the pace is slow as hell. Cang Xuan’s scenes are a bore. The first 18 eps at Qingshui Town was what drew me but I’m not so sure about the rest of the drama.

  10. The part about CL’s character being even richer is even more true when it’s the author herself writing it into the script. Which is even more ironic, because it made me love that character even more than I did ten years ago. 🤣. There is simply no CP other than with the third male lead. Hmmm. Maybe with a sleeping TSJ in the background.

  11. Xiang Liu was definitely an interesting character in the book and probably my favourite character, but from the beginning I preferred Jing for her and the reason is simple. Jing was the only one who could provide what she was looking for. Unsurprisingly, she chose him as well.

  12. They should have aired it all in one sitting at 60+ eps, I’m not sure why China is trying to hamstring its own TV industry when the economy is bad.

I liked the 1st season because of all the false identities and worldbuilding but the 2nd season’s plot is way too depressing, even the trailer is too sad. The worst thing is that they’re all immortals but all they do is mope around their own love life, it’s got that age-old xianxia drama problem where the immortal characters become annoying because all they do is get stuck in love triangles or squares and nothing seems very consequential.

I’ll end up watching the rest but the hype isn’t there and I can see why. If they aired it in go the sad parts in the 2nd season will hit harder, now it’s kinda meh.

    • At first the limitation was introduced because some producer would make 20 ep drama into 60 ep drama by adding all unnecessary plot. Unfortunately now drama that needs that much episode get the worst of it
