So Kim Hye Yoon may have more fan meetings and overseas trips on deck but it does feel like summer is coming to a close with all those concerts and trips and events overall for everyone, famous or not. She’s been getting much more media attention than usual thanks to the spring drama success of Lovely Runner and with it she’s hitting all the photo ops out of the park. Beyond always dressing fun and fresh, she’s so warm and engaged with fans and media who are snapping her it feels like she is genuinely grateful and soaking in the attention. Her most recent airport departure headed to Taiwan for her fan meeting showcased a very 90’s esque goth/punk but more feminine look.

Don’t get me wrong she is super sweet and beautiful but is it only me that thought that lovely runner was so overrated? Couldn’t get pass the 5th episode … and her acting was too much and cringe…but again she is beautiful and sweet

I finished Lovely Runner and found the drama overrated too. The OST is fantastic though. My biggest problem with the drama wasn’t the acting but how badly written the FL lead was. Sacrificing herself over and over again caused more problems. Just wished she communicated with the ML as she slowly found out the truth of what he felt in the different timelines. I never felt so frustrated with a character before.
Happy the drama did well despite that. It’s great seeing actors and actresses breakout after working so hard after many years.
I’m more frustrated with the murder side quest, like all those effort, going back and forth just for the villain to just drop die by himself like that?
Anyway it was right for me to decide not watch any romance mixed with thriller, the thriller plot is just so lazy
I feel like she is often asked to play cute, girl next door types of roles. I’ve seen her acting in Snowdrop and her movie TGOABD (haven’t seen EY), and I think she can act really well. I’m not really fond of cute characters, but I did find the character, although a bit frustrating at times, quite cute and endearing. However, she hasn’t really had many projects as I’ve seen, where she can showcase her acting chops. I see a lot of potential in her acting, so hopefully she gets good scripts to showcase her versatility.
@KimchiRole her breakout role was actually as a cold, stuck-up ‘princess’ and ‘favoured eldest daughter’ type of character, the polar opposite of the girl-next-door sweetheart she played in Lovely Runner.
Based on those two roles alone, she’s got serious range as an actress and the technical abilities (flawless diction) to support it with, the main problem is that she’s perceived as very young or only known for playing teenagers and so limited to those types of ‘youth’ roles and not taken seriously even though most of the second half of Lovely Runner showed her character as a 30something.
One hit drama with her playing a character in her later 20s or even 30s will make her undeniable, or at least a drama where the posters and publicity material aren’t focused on characters in high school uniform.

I totally forgot about the infamous Kang Yeseo. Loved that character. I don’t know what it is but I just love those characters most audience love to hate. Yes I read her filmography. I have to say I’m really impressed by her list and awards. I didn’t realise she had so many nominations and awards for 1 movie and at such a young age👏🏼. I feel like she’s an actress that pulls you into the movie/drama with her acting. Her looks also changes depending on what role she plays and that’s an amazing advantage to have as an actress. I’ve seen some ppl complain about seeing the same faces in every drama, but I don’t think she will have that problem if she keeps her acting up and challenges herself with various characters. Honestly, Korean dramas aren’t doing it for me anymore. It’s always long lost childhood friends, lovers from past lives, parents not accepting partner, CEO with zero emotions. The plot is no longer plotting because we’ve seen it all. Lovely runner although familiar plot, was a breath of fresh air done right.
She’s as fresh as a daisy every time I see her. I’m happy to see her getting awards, doing all these fan meetings and getting so many offers. No one deserves it more.

What’s a KSH fan doing in a KHY post. Seo Yeaji also spent years in supporting roles as did so many other actresses. One successful drama and her fans start acting like she’s some top S-tier superstar. Ahn Eunjin was in last year’s most successful drama and had so much critical praise for her performance but is still doing variety shows and supporting role in Kim Eunsook’s upcoming drama. Career trajectories are weird and Korean showbiz is so cutthroat that fans just come out as bitter when they start spewing words like nugu to put down an actress. Not everyone is a Son Yejin or Kim Taeri or Kim Goeun who won best new actress awards for their debut movies and immediately became huge stars. Others work hard to get on a star level and that’s alright.

It’s lovely seeing her get so much love and her gratitude. Things were looking rough for her career a year ago but now the perfect storm with the phenomenal success of Lovely Runner and joining a capable agency has turned her career completely around.
It’s impressive how Lovely Runner has elevated the popularity of not just the leads, KHY and BWS, but even.some of the supporting actors too. Song Geon Hee who played the 2nd ML said after the drama he is happy because he has so many schedules now. He recently had a fanmeeting, will hold an overseas fanmeeting, joined a new variety show, just threw the first pitch at a baseball game, photoshoots, etc. Lee Sung Hyub who played Sungjae’s bff has gained so many new fans too as has his band and has new editorials and invited to brand events.
I have to say I do like her outfit style in the photo above..I am just not a fan of all black look… I love some splashes of colour but that is just me..lol.
An unpopular opinion perhaps. I’m actually more a fan of KHY’s visuals than her acting. I was initially drawn by her acting more than BWS in the first few eps of LR. But I found BWS was more consistent in emoting and his expressions more natural and convincing for his character. I agree with some comments above that she overacted sometimes. There are reasons why BWS has attracted a huge fangirls since the success of LR, in particular if his followers are new generation of Kdrama fans who have very little exposure to the early Hallyu stars. I don’t think BWS particularly special as a heartthrob cos I’ve seen enough among the older generation. He isn’t unique. Besides, I don’t appreciate his visuals that much. The reason would irk rabid fans defending ferociously for oppa. LOL. I said it once on this site and don’t bother repeating.
As to the drama itself, well, I finished it out of curiosity although skipping most of the school romance that was tropey and boring to me. I agree there was strong chemistry between the OTP. But that was it. Will I re-watch LR? Definitely not. Will I recommend the drama to others? Well, it depends. If one is new to Kdrama, looking for hypnotizing romance that doesn’t exit in Western romance anymore but was how many Kdrama fans got started, then I’d say go for it…LR has those K-romance ingredients you daydream of. LOL.

Rest of the time they think awards are merely for bragging rights and that they don’t count in terms of career accomplishments or successes. Now if it’s their fave who wins a Baeksang or Blue Dragon, suddenly she’s the best there ever was and no one can talk down on her acting every again.

There are one drama The Whale Star on pre-production, started looking to the cast since the July. Webtoon is very-very good. I didn’t watch Mr. Sunshine, but by edits vibe seems similar to me. There would be assembly cast, historical drama about independence activists, two strong male leads and female lead is a mute girl.
I think any 20s actress would be lucky to get this role, and I saw Kim Hye Yoon fans get excited about start of the casting for this drama. Kim Hye Yoon probably can play a mute girl, so I think after hype drama project like this would be a good choice.

There’s nothing more to add to this spectacle, except that every time I visit, I’m genuinely amazed at how KSH’s antis are so fixated on talking about him? It’s like they can’t resist discussing him in detail sporadically at any given point in time. His only antis on the site have now repeatedly declared themselves his ~|fans|~. Is it because someone is not able to properly critique him in a way that’s believable to anybody unless they first declare they are a fan? I’ve never seen a flower boy carry such acting weight (gravitas?) that antis feel the pressure to proclaim themselves as fans before giving their opinion on him somehow.
Commenters on Koalas blog are quick to criticize SJK or PSJ, etc whenever they fancy, but no one dares for KSH. Its not like SJK and PSJ dont have equally devoted fans. I first though it was because they’d get slapped with Baeksang facts or something, but SJK has that too for the most part? I just cant seem to figure it out but am fascinated with it lol.
I should say I won’t have the pleasure of seeing anyone’s no doubt aggressive response to my comment so if you value your time, spend it elsewhere. But just so everyone’s clear here, as a matter of fact – I am ~|not a KSH fan|~. I don’t have an issue owning to that truth whatsoever. I have never been his fan and never will be. So far, the sky hasnt fallen on me lol.

Im new here, so maybe I don’t really know about the years of beef between commenters, but some of the stuff y’all say about actresses as women yourselves r y women have it so hard in the industry. We complain that men get all the benefits and how difficult and unfair it is for actresses, but here we r insulting and just being plain old nasty. This is y I don’t subscribe to any actor/actress becoz I know how toxic these fandoms can get. I thought this was a space for discussing our CONSTRUCTIVE thoughts about dramas, actors and K industry in general, but I guess not.
