Dang, pass the popcorn here with this deja vu, another instance of C-stars strong fandom turning against him/her. C-actor Zhang Ling He was recently confirmed for period drama Chasing Jade with Tian Xi Wei, the billing order hasn’t been confirmed but he’s most likely top billed. His fandom has lodged a public and loud protest with his agency demanding that he not accept this project because they believe the script is bad and the scriptwriter has a bad track record and the director does not have any hit period dramas under his belt. It’s gotten so bad the agency had to publicly respond that Zhang Ling He likes this drama and wants to do it and they trust it will be good, but that’s not enough for his fandom which has escalated their protest by announcing they will no longer update on his activities until their valid concerns are properly addressed instead of treated flippantly. Eeesh.

  1. Then don’t update. He has plenty of other fans who are not so unreasonable to think they can influence his decision. I mean they should have protested when he agreed to the awful Love’s Rebellion or the terrible styling in most of the fantasy based series. Let him decide his own career path. I will only say he may be in danger of overexposure.

  2. Can I ask? Are fan clubs, I suppose official or unofficial ones so powerful that by not updating on his activities mean zero publicity? What does that lead to anyway, this protest of not updating his activities? I know what they wanna achieve but is there a valid consequence?

    • I always hear fans complain about how lazy the companies and the tv stations are at promotions and its mostly dependent on fans spamming and creating data, especially since so many dramas drop without prior notice too or gets no publicity without fans doing the data. Why do productions cast liulang actors with lots of online data? Because they need those fans to do the promotions for them. A lot of dramas from liulangs are mediocre and we only hear about them charting because fans are putting in the work.

      • Yep these assembly line drama don’t have a chance on banking money except by using those tricks

    • They may not be updating but they’ve been busy attacking Li Yitong, Lu Yuxiao (under the same agency), Wang Xingyue (old rivalry), Chen Xingxu (why???) to get the agency’s attention.

  3. Didn’t the same thing happen to Zhang Jing Yi or am I misremembering? I think she was supposed to have the main role in Guo Jing Ming’s next but ended up turning it down as her fans were protesting. Wang Chu Ran is the one who replaced her.

  5. ZLH is not a strong enough an actor to be male-centric or be picky with his scripts. He relies of having a charismatic acting partner. He has a very narrow comfort zone. Fans should understand their fave’s strengths and weaknesses.

  6. While I don’t exactly trust the agency when they say ZLH likes the drama and trusts it will be good since they seem to be putting him in anything and everything…fans acting like stage moms is just so cringe. I think he’s good and he’s still a rising actor. I’m not sure if he’s actually being offered better lead roles than what he has already got. And I’m not sure if he or his agency will want to take on supporting roles.

And you never know what will end up being a hit or not. I didn’t think Love Between Fairy and Devil was going to be a hit. Then it was a HUGE hit and solidified Dylan Wang’s popularity.

    • Indeed, noone expected LBFAD to be such a big hit. It looked your average, run-of-the-mill xianxia and the only reason I checked it out was because I thought Dylan Wang had great styling. And then, it got big! So yes, you never know!
