Space Romance K-drama When the Stars Gossip with Gong Hyo Jin and Lee Min Ho Confirmed for tvN Weekend Premiere on January 4th, 2025

Alrighty this is great news to get an actual date rather than a general time period. K-ent is reporting that tvN has scheduled When the Stars Gossip (Ask the Stars) for a January 4th premiere on its biggest timeslot on Sat-Sun. The drama stars Gong Hyo Jin and Lee Min Ho with a big name supporting case and even bigger budget, with the leads playing an astronaut and a OB/GYN doctor respectively. The screenwriter did Pasta, Miss Korea, and the most recently Iron Family, and the PD directed Bravo, My Life and Hi! School – Love On. All I can say is bring it on because this drama will have been done filming for almost two years by the time it airs.

  1. I don’t like either of them so this is an easy skip!

On another note, isn’t anything related to sci-fi or space notorious for flopping in korea? Why do they keep giving these shows elaborate budgets?

  2. Unlike others, I’m still looking forward to this drama even if that excitement has dimmed considerably due to all the delays.

In other news, Trunk’s trailer is out and for that, I am SO EXCITED. I feel like every kdrama fan is probably waiting on it. Gong Yoo. Finally!!!

  3. GHJ hasn’t done even 1 drama this whole decade. That’s so crazy to me and happy to see her back finally. She tends to pick similar roles but always knows to pick well written ones.
I don’t have strong feelings either way to LMH. He also always picks the similar roles but I really love his visuals in this drama.
Pressure is on with ratings. Massive budget to overcome, and from an earnings standpoint, let’s see if tvN can match 2024’s first quarter in 2025. Probably not but we’ll see.

    • I don’t see anyway they can recoup the budgets since Netflix/Disney/Prime have all set limits to how much they are willing to pay to buy broadcast rights and this drama with the mega star cast and the extremely long post production period and sitting on the shelf for a while now will have an inflated budget. Even if they sell at the highest possible price, have high ratings and do numerous pop up stores and merch it’ll possibly still be in the red.

  4. I like both leads and have been looking forward just for this OTP alone. What makes this even more interesting is that this is from the same screenwriter as Jealousy Incarnate/Don’t Dare to Dream which was surprisingly well-written—it had one of the best ensemble cast I know for it’s genre.
