J-dorama Adaptation of Marry My Husband Continues Strong Run Now Midway Through and with Opening Douban Rating of 8.3 — 11 Comments

  1. It’s better than the original one. Acting wise, this one is amazing. Both FL and ML give justice to their characters.

But the 2nd fl isnt as villainous as the korean version. But still, i like the japanese one more.

    • I love the J-Dorama. All the characters are human while the K-Drama characters are more comic-like and very stereotypical, what got on my nerves pretty fast. I love that the 2nd FL isn’t portayed as plain evil but as a character with a mental disability who is deeply insecure.

      • I do like plain evil characters as long as they have good writing and are supported by chilling performances. Lol.

  2. I like this version.
The female lead reminds me a lot of Chinese actress Bai Lu.
I like both PMY and the actress here.
But I think the Korean one has better styling on fl character.
The male lead character made more sense on this version.
For second leads, I can’t figure out yet.
I really hated them on Korean version.

    • I didn’t like the styling of PMY, it was over the place and didn’t suit her character. She was overdressed for her job.

  3. A Japanese adaptation of Beyond Evil was also recently released under the name Kaibutsu, but there hasn’t been much buzz.

  4. I’m a big fan of the first version, despite the way they changed ML’s fiance’s character. It was fun and funny in parts and full of satisfying revenge. I also really loved the relationship between the ML and his stepsister. I also feel like the Ml and FL in the Korean version are more of a team or maybe because of the different length, there is more time for it. However, I am loving this version, too. I’m not sure why people can’t enjoy both, and what I find odd about television and movie audiences. Theater people will watch multiple versions of the same play by different directors with different actors and completely different sets. This is how I am looking at both of these. The sensibilities are just really different. What I like about the Japanese version is what seems to be more of a journey for the female lead where she really is questioning not just how badly others treated her but how much she didn’t love herself. Here, she is given more time to reflect on what happened to her before. We also see her real dilema about having someone else take on the fate that she sheds. With this PD, it’s not surprising that the show is much darker in tone.

  5. I thoroughly enjoyed the Korean adaptation, and now I’m enjoying this one. I’m more partial to Satoh Takeru as the ML, but I loved PMY as the FL. I’m enjoying the original story getting the dorama treatment, especially the Japanese backdrop, but I loved the humor of the Korean drama. I miss the level of snark PMY’s character had whenever she had to deal with the evil duo who betrayed her. You could just feel her contempt and disgust for them on a level I’m not seeing in the dorama adaptation. The scene at work when she dodged the food, her entrance after her makeover in the reunion scene and at the office, meeting the parents. It just felt like all those scenes had much more of an OMG factor to them compared to this dorama adaptation. When she had her makeover, it felt like more than a physical makeover but a spiritual one as well. Some of her office outfits were a bit over the top though. The character is coming back to life ten years before she died but with the 10 years of life she already experienced. After all the mistakes she made in her previous life, living the last part of her life ill knowing she was going to die, and then the betrayal and murder, she couldn’t help but come back from that changed. I felt that change was more visible with PMY’s portrayal. I loved that she just seemed much more confident as a woman after she got that makeover and everyone could see it. I love the chemistry between the leads much more in the dorama adaptation though. The tone of the Japanese adaptation is more serious and I’m enjoying the difference.

  6. This version got rid of a bunch tropes from the plot and also gave the female lead more personal growth, which helped make the pace more engaging. The dialogues are also better written here. I’m not a fan of ML’s look, but his performance is believable.

  7. This is much much better. Love it so much. I felt refreshed after watching it. Didn’t exaggerate the story and overdo.
