Meng Zi Yi and Li Yun Rui Kick Off Filming of Tencent Period C-drama Tigers Sniff the Rose
This weekend Tencent started filming of the period romance and politics C-drama Tigers Sniff the Rose starring Meng Zi Yi and Li Yun Rui in a highly anticipated and quick reunion since their hit drama Blossom less than a year ago. Can’t blame them for striking while the iron is still hot on these two stars but capturing lightning in a bottle twice is a very percentage. The platform isn’t shrinking from hyping it up and right away released teaser promo shots of the two solo in character and also posing dramatically together. Fans of Blossom should be excited but to the average C-drama viewer these promos are just mid in concept and execution.
What made Blossom very special was the production team—their eye for detail and care for every scene. The stars aligned and we had good leads, good directing, and a good script. The source novel itself was elevated by appropriate minor tweaks done by the screenwriter(s). And so, the magic for these two’s reunion will depend largely on a trifecta of factors (script, director, overall production).
I guess I am the only one that found Blossom was overrated. It started out pretty strong but somewhere in between I lost interest and I just found Meng ziyi face too distracting. She just reminds me of Angelababy for some reason.
No you arent alone I also some others on douban also think same thing. Her face looks same in most scenes even if she has mimics at times she looks the same. I dont know whats wrong if its make up or her face getting stiff a little? Looks a lot similar to AB too…
I also didnt liked chemistry between them in Blossom.He needs to level up his micro expressions.There were many parts where his eyes/gaze looks like someone pepper sprayed him…
Ah. I think it’s because halfway through the drama I dove into the novel which I really really liked. Nothing earth-shattering but definitely now one of my top cnovel favorites. But I do understand why the drama felt like it petered out somewhat.
I like Blossom quite a lot. I couldn’t warm up to Meng Ziyi and her face in the Princess Gambit. Her face is distracting like Leaves45 said. She does remind me of Angelababy in that their faces have so much PS that there’s not much emotion on their faces

I like Blossom. But I would agree on your view of Meng Ziyi. In Blossom, the story and directing was good so I could overlook Meng Ziyi’s lack of expression. I couldn’t get into the Princess Gambit because of her. She does remind me of Angelababy too…to much plastic surgery or botox to the point where they lack the ability to express emotions on their face
First Xinli drama being filmed this year, so embarrassing.
I hope they will take it easy on meng ziyi’s makeup and not give her the usual bright red lips she has in costume dramas.
So true. Both the lead actors have decent skills, but not spectacular and the combination of all the factors allowed both of them to shine. People think chemistry happens just by pairing the right 2 people but we need the right setting and circumstances.
I really hope Meng Ziyi’s makeup will get toned down a bit since the vibrant makeup is actually making her look blander with each drama. It sounds like in the cdrama industry, a lot of actors tend to bring in their own makeup people, and I’m not sure how much power the production has in telling some of them to tone it down.
The title of the drama is odd… like I can’t even imagine a tiger sniffing a rose and does not sound as sweet and smooth of a title. I’m sure they will have great chemistry because the last drama to me succeeded well from it.
Glad to see I’m not the only one thinking her face is so unnatural and distracting onscreen, especially her lips.
