  1. It’s a fun watch. The plot and tropes are familiar, but the directing and cinematography is impressive. Culinary class war in Joseon setting. Yoona really fits this bubbly, feisty role.

  2. I’m enjoying this drama tremendously. I’d never thought Yoona could act. But dang she’s so funny truly delivering right comedic timing. I knew nothing about the ML. I personally think Lee Chae Min is a better fit than the original cast of Park Sung Hoon. Although many said PSH was a good actor, he somehow gives me creepy feeling that I have trouble rooting for him in love lines with any actresses. LOL.

It’s been a while for Kdrama to have a delightful plot of more Asian-oriented style. Most of other Kdramas aired on streaming platforms look more and more like Hollywood produced. Not saying that’s bad, but sometimes I do need more light toned plots just for fun and relax. This drama just has everything so enjoyable in the Kdrama of old time.

    • Happy for Yoona after all the age shaming she suffered. Agree with the above comment that the new ML seems to be a better fit.

    • I liked PSH a lot in Into the Ring. I also saw his sort of love line in Not Others. When he isn’t playing a villain, he’s good at playing the introverted nice guy who attracts the more extroverted, loud FL.

I think it really worked out with Lee Chae-min being a young, rising actor. The tyrant king in the drama is heavily based (basically same guy with a slight name tweak) on the most infamous tyrant king in korean history and having a younger, less established actor really works to help that bit of unpleasantness go down. It allows the audience to accept “he’s young and still has time to change his ways”. Whereas, if it was PSH, who has also been alternating between playing good guys and villains, you get the “ohh..he’s been killing people for a decade now. He’s not going to change.” The original Yeonsangun would have been in his early 20s too at this point.

    • She was great in the movie Exit. So I don’t have any doubts that she can do comedy well but dramatic probably maybe lacking. Seems to be a thing for idols turned actors maybe because they do so much variety tv shows they are more relaxed doing comedy. 🤷🏻‍♀️

    • True that since streaming platforms are producing Kdramas,i’m losing interest as they look more and more as western productions and as an european what i liked about Kdramas was their own unique touch .If not, what’s the point of watching productions from others cultures ?

  3. @ somebody, i like Lee chae min more. I’m so used to seeing park sung hoon as villains and this could have solidify his male lead status.

  4. Also think/thought Yoona shouldn’t give up her day job – stick to singing/dancing, but am prepared to be wowed/have my opinion changed. Will give it a try but wait for a few more episodes to be aired before I start.

  5. People may debate about Yoona’s acting skills, but I feel like you have to admit that she’s got luck or maybe a sixth sense for what works for her and the audience.

I’m really happy for the production, which must have been really stressed out when the PSH “scandal” came out!
