C-netizens Demand Boycott of Jeon Ji Hyun Over Alleged Insults to China in Her Currently Airing K-drama Tempest — 25 Comments

  1. C-netizens really get offended by the drop of a hat 😂
From props used in the drama, over filming locations to lines spoken by a fictional character, none of this can really be blamed on any of the actors.
Shouldn’t they reserve their outrage for some real life issues and accept fiction as fiction.

    • They are also hating on Yoona for something that felt like distorting Chinese history in Bon Appetit. They get upset over things that speak about them unfavorably.

On another note, I dont think they have given a response when their cooking reality show on Tencent was called out for being a carbon copy of Netflix’s Culinary Class Wars.

      • That drama did give me a few laughs with those weird scenes of the characters enjoying the food, nonsensical Ming costumes and bad Chinese pronunciations 🤣 To be fair, Koreans also got upset when they saw some lower fairies wearing hanbok-like costumes in a Chinese xianxia drama.

    • Exactly. Even my fav who had been always No. 1 spokesperson for many international brands is getting fewer and fewer endorsement deals from brand names that were replaced by many more domestic commercials instead. The sign is telling with a clear message: Chinese market has lost appeal to foreign investment significantly. Whoever trying to argue with me about this fact will be blatantly ignorant.

      • What an ignorant comment, using one celebrity’s brand endorsements as a sign of Chinese market losing appeal in foreign investments. There’s plenty of Chinese celebrities announcing new endorsements of foreign brands.

      • There you go with your ignorance, again.

Korean consumes “luxury goods” but their country is a soft power, not a leading one since they still heavily rely on US, SEA and of course, China for their popularity to make bank. If C-fans and the investments from Chinese media companies stopped coming their way, they’re f**ked since they always need to enter other markets rather than finding innovative ways to actually boost their economy.

      • LOL. It’s the reality that foreign investment is pulling out of the Chinese market. Business ppl won’t be deceived like delusional fans by C drama propaganda flaunting fake wealth. There are reasons why Warren Buffet just exited China’s BYD.

Dummies keep investing in China! LOL

      • @azn_sky, arrogance overload and butthurt ! Chinese ignoramuses are too delusional to read economy, interpret market numbers, or simply to know a tad about industries and supply chains. SK has been a key player in critical supply chains of semiconductor, producing the most DRAM chips for the whole world. China? LOL.. Nothing useful in the semiconductor supply chain has come out of that poor intellectual property thief !

There have been always way more poor population in China than the rich. The late Premier Li Keqiang confirmed the fact himself. When the economy was doing well years ago, the rich Chinese were willing to pay for luxurious goods. Now that the economy of China is tanked, the domestic market cannot afford more expenditures. Instead, every rich man is trying to flee China and therefore, money laundering is rampant. LOL.

You delusional fans may be more interested in celebs’ gossips than serious business. But I just read Bloomberg headline: Europe’s China dream is over, with now Poland a bigger customer. Perhaps you should stop goofing around on drama blogs and go get more education from these left-wing media that used to be everything about China they worshiped. LOL.

  2. Been waiting for so long for Tempest and HALLELUJUAH, it lives up to my hopes!!!

The chemistry between JJH x KDW is smoldering. I forgot how equally good of a dramatic actress JJH is as comedic. It’s good to see her back onscreen.

I finally now get the hype over KDW. My god, the man is hawt! JJH’s screen presence usually ends up overshadowing her costars, but KDW somehow neutralizes her. The two are perfectly, evenly matched. Best kdrama pairing I’ve seen in a longgg time.

All that being said, script could be tighter.

    • La Mer, Piaget and Louis Vuitton removed all her ads and promotional posts on their Chinese social media accounts. La Mer removed her reels from their international IG account. No one knows what that means for her contracts with those brands but for now all advertising materials with her face on it have scrubbed of their Chinese accounts.

  3. The only point valid was showing a rundown Hong Kong as Dalian, the other two seems to be grasping at straws. This boycott, I lean more towards it being initiated by Chinese actresses who want the brands to use them for the ads in China instead of JJH.

      • I feel like there’s a recent bout of warmongers present in both Chinese and international web. From Yu Menglong’s case, to Bon Appetit and Tempest, there’s a group of people stirring up unrest and fueling conflicts between China and South Korea online.

  4. I can understand why the Dalian depiction was terrible (the script should have used a fictional city), but the rest feels like fake outrage. JJH is just acting from the script. And if they’re so offended, they should just stop watching and consuming korean media via VPN.

  5. Isn’t this the drama producer, script writer or directors fault? Like she is just an actress playing her part. I get why they would be offended by some things but still boycotting the actress when she is not from there to begin with. Movies and tv rarely show accuracy in things especially if it is fiction unless this show is biopic of some sorts. Or even Disney plus could be at fault too.

    • @rero, I think some of those cnetz think that she’s a top actress and has the ability to dictate script and dialogue change if she wants but she hasn’t changed this part so they’re blaming on her. You made good points. The whole production team should be at fault and not just her

  6. LOL. I had mentioned earlier in other blogs that I was currently enjoying so much chemistry between this Tempest CP, JJH as an elegant stateswoman and KDW as a sizzling hot bodyguard. I kept hinting Koala post about the drama at some point but did not expect to see something like this ruckus out of nothing in China. LOL

From my perspectives, Tempest was actually more likely written by left-leaning writer cuz the bogus plot is insinuating more the US as a war monger than anything else. LOL. I just don’t care that much about the fictional nonsense and wait to see more romantic scenes of the OTP. JJH and KDW made many other online CPs look like preschoolers dating. LMAO

  7. So far have watched two episodes, it’s entertaining, will continue. Noticed some of the heated comments on MDL, and was tempted to post IT’S FICTIONAL people, calm the f down, stop with the cyber wars intent on doing genuine damage, but didn’t. I get that people have opinions, I have plenty, too, but would HATE it if anyone actually got hurt/impacted over mine. What is with all these people who want to seriously cause damage IN REAL LIFE and yes, advocating cancelling/boycotting is exactly that, over some FICTIONAL work of art.

Enjoy it, don’t, grumble about it but really, taking it beyond that over some purported crime against what exactly – mis-representing Dalian, some dumb anti-China/anti-US/anti-whoever plot?

IF the cyber-war lovers increasingly get there way, we’re going to eventually be left with, well, not sure what exactly but am of the belief that it’ll be a lot more boring, naff shite.
