Yang Mi and Liu Xue Yi in Talks for Serious Political Period C-drama The Reign of Northern Wei
The evolution of C-actress Yang Mi into serious C-dramas is continuing onward as her next project will reportedly be the Youku big budget drama The Reign of Northern Wei (江山大同 Jiang Shan Da Tong). Her male lead in discussions is Liu Xue Yi and this could be the big break he’s been overdue for, and joining them is the award winning veteran statesman Chen Jian Bing. The drama is slated to start filming in March 2026 and is being called the next Nirvana in Fire, so expect a lot of intelligent political plotting and a slow burn story.

Lol the only reason her last drama did well was because she was carried by other actors around her.
This will just flop like before unless they again stuff it full of veterans because LXY certainly can’t carry a drama.
Liu Xueyi could carry a drama very well. It’s just that some of the dramas are boring and no chemistry with his female leads. He is an incredible, multi talented, humble actor. I just love him. He was exceptionally good in Destined and Love Never Fails.
Actually, it’s the opposite. Liu Xueyi is usually the one carrying the drama. He is let down by bad scripts and weak female leads who can’t match his talent. Even critics have acknowledged this. He’s a rare talent in an industry that churns out repetitive dramas and mediocre idol actors. I hope he finds a drama to match his considerable gifts.
FINALLY we see LXY getting roles beside bigger names!! and its with better script projects hopefully. I really would love to watch this pair in such a project.
Simmm Liu Xueyi merece!
I just can’t picture these two as a couple if this has romance but if there was no romance to me it would work but who knows maybe they could prove me wrong.
Yang Mi was amazing in This Thriving Land. This role sounds perfect for her.
Ehhh if this drama is as big as they say and they’re throwing around comparisons to Nirvana in Fire, I really wish they would get a different FL. Yes, YM pulled through in This Thriving Land. But I still don’t know if I have faith in her to lead something like this. I genuinely hope she proves me wrong though because I used to quite like her back in her Peach Blossoms/Fuyao era.
