Production of War of Faith, Leads Wang Yang and Wang Yibo All Release Statements Trying to Calm the Online Displeasure Over the Magnolia Awards Best Actor Nomination
So the fallout has come after a week of online anger, harassment, and negative comments surrounding the nomination of C-actor Wang Yang in the Best Actor category for the Magnolia Awards for War of Faith. The other male lead Wang Yibo’s fandom was furious and went full blown online attack on both the production company for nominating Wang Yang and Wang Yang himself for being undeserving. This week all three parties involved issued statements – Wang Yibo simply that the success of War of Faith is a joint effort of the production and cast and everyone is mutually supportive and he will continue to work hard on every character and project, Wang Yang that he is acting sincerely, and the production explained it submitted both lead actors names to the Magnolia Awards. Since the fallout, over 600 Weibo accounts belonging to Wang Yibo’s fandom have been muted by the platform for harassment, and on the flip side Wang Yang is currently filming a mainstream CCTV produced drama 八千里路云和月 (Eight Thousand Miles of Cloud and Moon) which is a tentpole production slated to premiere during lunar new year 2025, and he also has dramas on deck with the other two big terrestrial networks Hunan TV and Jiangsu TV. C-ent is considering Wang Yang the total winner and nonplussed and Wang Yibo’s side really suffering bad publicity for his fandom’s ignorant actions in contesting the nomination. It’s funny that they think Wang Yibo is the ONLY male lead since he has more screentime in War of Faith, but when it comes to The Untamed their gege is also a male lead despite Xiao Zhan having way more screentime. The hypocrisy is thick with this group.
Indeed, what a bunch of idiots. It’s a shame for their fave, who is not half bad as an actor, as he has proven with War of Faith. I hope he has made lots of money because with these kind of stans I don’t think many people that will want to work with him in the future. A shame indeed.
So much agreed with the last statement regarding The Untamed. Even when I watched the drama the first time and had no much idea of any actors in the cast, it would have been very ignorant for me to consider both XZ and WYB were male leads. It cracked me up later on knowing that many rabid fans claiming equal credits to XZ and WYB for the huge success of the drama. That’s one of the reasons for me to be unable to take WYB seriously besides his bland acting.
Some ‘fans’ are really not worth having…Having said that even some Xiao Zhan’s more rabid ‘fans’ after Untamed knifed him badly too. I am so glad Xiao Zhan have moved on and is doing well now.

I have never considered BJYX as Xiao Zhan’s fans, they only care about Wang Yibo (natural though as they are managed by Yuehua). When it comes to buying endorsements and magazines, they put in big money for Wang Yibo’s while conveniently overslept for Xiao Zhan’s.
Only XFXs truly care for Xiao Zhan, they suffered silently against the mass cyberbullying during 227 because they knew if they made any action, Xiao Zhan’s rivals will blow things up a hundred fold and throw all sorts of accusations on them to escalate the situation.
This current scandal actually shows us the huge disparity between the treatment Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo get when they have scandals. During 227, anything Xiao Zhan’s fans do will get criticised by YXHs with hardly any supporting voices for Xiao Zhan. While this time, not a single blue YXH (weibo accounts with a blue mark are owned by businesses and supposedly have more credibility) criticise Wang Yibo fans’ terrible actions.

Back when I watched The Untamed for the first time and not knowing who the leads were, and eventually did end up dropping the drama, but XZ was definitely the better actor of the two and had more screen time with the script following his character. Honestly, I would have stayed for XZ but I’m not really into the BL genre, which surprised me how I finished Mysterious Lotus Casebook because it seems like a BL genre haha.
I wouldn’t pity WYB too much for his fans as some of the most virulent bones are apparently closely connected to his agency. One word from him would have been enough to stop them from harassing everyone, but he didn’t say it. Even his statement is just a load of generic waffle, when an expression of regret for the outrageous behaviour of his fans would have been what any normal person would have said.
If Wang Yang’s career can move to the next level with the little boost provided by WYB’s fans, it will be the best vindication and proof that the jury was right.

His statement does nothing to back up his costar nor calm his ‘fans’. He’s only saying this because he was asked to comment on something. Would it have cost him anything to tell his fans to calm down and that he is fully behind his costar and that they should be happy for Wang Yang’s nomination?
To me it just reads as sour grapes, so I’m guessing he’s really not against his fans outrageous behavior even though publicly he is not giving them the support. His so-called fans should be aware that their star may become persona non grata and no one would want to work with him in the future. It’s not like he’s a extraordinarily talented actor that everyone wants to work with.
WYB wants to be taken as a serious actor and not an idol actor but if his fans continue on no one will take this man seriously. I thought he did well in War of Faith but the actor could have been played by anyone. Wang Yang’s character and acting felt like the role was made just for him.
Wang Yibo’s statement is nonsense. It doesn’t do anything at all to calm his fans but then considering how apparently yh controls his BNFs, hardly surprising.
After WY issued his statement, they continued cursing him out. I am glad at least Weibo is doing something by suspending these. Some of the suspended accounts are huge, with over 150k followers.
During that Untamed time, they actually blocked XZ from an award in this same manner. He was nominated for ML, WYB for supporting and they protested so hard that in the end, all nominations were removed. Only a moron could believe LWJ was a main lead but they still claim that. Hypocrisy because one suits them and the other doesn’t.
Who ends to working with WYB will learn to regret it.
Didn’t like the Untamed. Uncomfortable to watch. Love WYB in Hidden Blade and Legend of Fei. Skipped War of Faith, too complicated and long. But from the previews alone, Wang Yang commanded attention. I do like my political plots short and sweet. Didn’t like him in Formed Police Unit and that Blackface controversy.
It’s funny that you bring up The Untamed. I remember that for the mainstream Beijing Daily Awards The Untamed was nomained for best drama and Xiao Zhan was nominated for a best actor for his performance as Wei Wuxian. Wang Yibo’s fans attacked the award and the drama and claimed that Wang Yibo was also the lead actor. It got so out of hand, the award body removed the nominations. And Xiao Zhan lost his best actor nom. Funny how karma works. Now Wang Yibo and his fans suffered the humiliation of being snubbed by Magnolia. It’s exactly what they deserve.
Not only the untamed, but Wang Yibo fans also called WYB as male lead for other dramas and movies which he originally only as supporting actor and WYB fans claimed the credit of the dramas/movies achievement as WYB only and step on the MAIN actors, just because the MAIN actors did not have traffic fanbase who scream for them in every post.
Remember WYB fans promoted WYB as main lead role for “Louyang” and claimed the one who did brought success, Huang Xuan is original MAIN actor for the drama. They claimed WYB as double male leads with Chen Xiao for “Being A Hero”, and whenever they posted the rerun ratings of “Being A Hero”, WYB fans claimed people only watch for WYB and step on Chen Xiao who is MAIN lead and way more screentimes. They did acted the same with Hidden Blade, Tony leung is the main lead, but WYB himself and WYB fans promoted as WYB is main lead and the more important role in the movie.Tony also avoid to be on the same stage with WYB since then.

His agency could mediate to calm the rabid fans, but they choose to hide,the attack on Wang Yang and his family already happened for many days and WYB and WYB official (his team) didn’t post anything to calm the fandom, they only did posted endorsement during the period, his last statement also didn’t ask his fans to stop and instead add more fire to attack WY.
More, today his agency posted WYB legal issue to ask “antis” to apology and bring them on trending to divert attention and sell pities for WYB, when it was/is WYB fans who harrasing and slandering WY and his family for many days (until now).

Does anyone remember that poor motorcycle racer who was in the same racing competition as Wang Yibo? To this day, Wang Yibo’s fans are still harassing and cyberbullying him for supposedly grazing Wang Yibo’s bike in the race and causing Wang Yibo to skid and lose the race. Though the truth is that the racer did not touch Wang Yibo at all, it’s just Wang Yibo’s racing skills aren’t as good as he claimed and he lost control on his own. That race was also rigged from the start, all the excellent racers were taken out of the race to let Wang Yibo win. Back to his fans, well, the poor racer is still suffering from their cyberbullying to this day but no one can help him get justice as Weibo restricts the views for the posts that talk about this.

@marites59 is right though, BJYX are managed by WYB’s agency. BJYX can’t be considered XZ fans if every action they do causes harm to XZ. They claim to love both men, but they always buy much more of WYB’s endorsements/magazines and gave most of their votes to him than XZ, under the guise of wanting to make them “equal”. On other platforms like Douyin or xhs Wang Yang got mocked badly for his acting, cctv acc posting his acting ‘highlights’ had to remove the video because of a backlash from drama watchers.
