With all the rave reviews coming out of South Korea for director Bong Joon Ho’s just-premiered first Hollywood movie Snowpiercer, I’m even more disappointed that Song Joong Ki had to pass up the chance to headline Director Bong’s next movie Sea Fog. With only three weeks (*sobs*) left before Song Joong Ki enlists at the end of August, I promised … Continue reading →
I’m genuinely sad that I don’t love The Master’s Sun. I was one of the few that actually loved Big, warts and nonsensical incomplete plot and all, and that was because that drama had one central narrative emotional hook tied to a character I loved from the get go. Male lead Kang Kyung Joon in Big was a kid adrift … Continue reading →
Kyaaaaaa! He’s back and he’s back as the male lead! After carrying an entire narratively craptastic drama on his slim shoulders for the first six-months of 2013, Chris Wu took a short two month break to recharge after the King Flower insanity and this week quietly sneaked into filming for an upcoming idol drama. Eagled-eyed fans of Ella Chen spotted … Continue reading →
Ho ho, what have we here? I dig this casting, I dig it very much. Ha Ji Won has been cast to headline the epic 50-episode (!) sageuk Hwatu (same name as the playing card game) for two months now. The drama premieres in October on MBC following Goddess of Fire, which means it has very very small shoes to … Continue reading →
I pretty much rolled out the red carpet for The Master’s Sun with a whole lot of hope and nary a shred of restraint. I want to love it because I’m jonesing for that feeling of being swept up in a story. Call it a drama addicts high, if you will. Rom-coms are the easiest place to get that fix … Continue reading →
In what is far and away going to be the most star-studded Korean entertainment industry wedding of the year, on August 10th top star Lee Byung Hun will be marrying actress Lee Min Jung at a purportedly lavish fete in Seoul. The two went public with their relationship last August, but have admitted that they did date even earlier than … Continue reading →
I noticed the Hong sisters have a hot streak of finding some really gorgeous pretty boys that are relative newbies to the small screen and then giving them good characters to build their buzz. There was Jung Yong Hwa in You’re Beautiful as the perfect oppa, No Min Woo in My Girlfriend is a Gumiho as the hunter turned mentor, … Continue reading →
Brain. Hurt. God, if I had under my control a cinematic zombie horde capable of traveling through time, I would sic them on the entire lot of Goddess of Fire characters because everyone (minus Tae Do) has no functioning brain tissue in that drama hence it must be super delicious and fatty. My zombie horde would approve of this massacre … Continue reading →
With less than six weeks left before its premiere following The Blade and Petal on KBS Wed-Thurs time slot, the upcoming traditional melodrama Secret has finally locked down its leads. Ji Sung and Hwang Jung Eum will be reuniting in a drama after doing a slew of Himart CFs earlier this year together posing as a married couple. Secret is … Continue reading →
The final scene of episode 11 of Goddess of Fire ends with Tae Do’s devastatingly romantic voice over: “Death, it is not something that worries me. If she dies, then what meaning is there for me to keep on living. Gwanghaegun, you live for the entire world. I only live for Jung Ah.” Guh, somebody please fan me because I … Continue reading →
The most underrated K-drama of the year thus far has to be The Blade and Petal (Sword and Flower). There is no accounting for taste but this one is absolutely a work of cinematic art and acting prowess regardless of whether it’s your cup of tea. I spend two hours a week captivated and mesmerized by intensity and passion that … Continue reading →
How can anyone keep a straight face acting out scenes from Goddess of Fire is beyond me. This is a talented and smart cast so I can imagine the eye-rolling and sighs when everyone gets a new script. Episode 11 finishes up the teacup that keeps tea warm story line by having Gwanghaegun switch out the Yook Do made one … Continue reading →
With the recent spate of mostly lackluster period dramas from both Korea and Japan, I feel like being on a formerly award winning team that is sucking so badly it ought to be demoted to the minor leagues. What gives, drama gods? Period dramas used to be the bread and butter of the drama world – its very fantastical or … Continue reading →
