Woo hoo, this is such great news! A new romance sageuk is headed our way in 2020, with SBS picking up the K-drama adaptation of the latest novel by writer Jung Eun Gwol who also wrote The Moon Embraces the Sun and Sungkyunkwan Scandal. She’s like the Tong Hua of Korean period romance novels and her prior two novel adaptations … Continue reading →
For every action there is a reaction and that reminds me so much of Puff Guo and Jasper Liu‘s combustible leads in TW-drama Before We Get Married. She’s getting flack for playing the character that is less direct and has more to lose for making a leap of faith romantic switch but the drama needs her otherwise the two leads … Continue reading →
With the shrinkage of the K-drama airing times, with Mon-Tues getting put on hiatus or made permanent by the big three networks, there will also be fewer events K-dramas as before. The only big drama on deck for 2020 is Kim Eun Sook‘s fantasy romance The King: Eternal Sovereign with leads Lee Min Ho and Kim Go Eun. Kim Eun … Continue reading →
This is kinda a funny story, and not what I expected from the general trend of K-ent fallout. Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo‘s high profile divorce was finalized at the end of July, a month after he filed in mid-June. Both are Korea’s top stars and have massive endorsement hauls. K-news is reporting that since the divorce filing, … Continue reading →
You gotta know which way your bread is buttered, or as the Chinese saying goes don’t lose your rice bowl. C-actress Yang Mi is one of China’s biggest stars and has tons of fashion brand endorsements. She recently signed on as Versace‘s face for ladies couture in China but that was one short stint as she quit her engagement this … Continue reading →
2019 already has the highest profile Chinese speaking entertainment scandal with singer Andy Hui on wife Sammi Cheng with starlet Jacqueline Wong. That ended with tears, snot, regret, and a forgiving second change. In 2018 last year started off with the cheating scandal of C-actress Li Xiao Lu on husband Jia Nai Liang with rapper PG One. That one was … Continue reading →
The lunar new year day of 7-7, the seventh day of the seventh month, is of course Chinese Valentine’s Day so there will be plenty of romantic promotions out there. Married Chinese stars Yuan Hong and Zhang Xinyi have always been low key but for this 7-7 the two were photographed by Bazaar Jewelry showcasing their total husband-wife vibe. It’s … Continue reading →
I think the preliminary verdict is that tvN drama Arthdal Chronicles is a relative disappointment, vis-a-vis the largest budget in K-drama history and of 54 billion won even greater by far from the most recent biggest budget K-drama Mr. Sunshine with 40 billion won. Mr. Sunshine at least broke cable ratings records but Arthdal has been averaging 6% ratings through … Continue reading →
The pressure to find Mr. Right escalates in Chinese culture when a woman turns 30 and it turns nuclear when she hits 40. It’s societal and probably personal too, hard to turn off years of hearing that we as women are going to be leftovers or not as fresh anymore if we are too picky and don’t settle down sooner … Continue reading →
There’s a new K-drama lined up and frankly it better be awesomely written and directed to muster any interest from me. MBC has scheduled rom-com People With Flaws for this November 2019 and cast Ahn Jae Hyun and Oh Yeon Seo as the leads. He hasn’t had a hit as a standalone male lead and her last hit was years … Continue reading →
I’m not quite feeling the onscreen or on print chemistry of Jung Hae In and Kim Go Eun as they promote their upcoming movie Tune in for Love (Yoo Yeol’s Music Album). They kinda have sibling face and the same sweet low key vibe when they act so they at most seem like best platonic friends type, and I felt … Continue reading →
The lineup is set for upcoming tvN thriller drama Psychopath Diary, which sounds a lot scarier than the set up seems. Yoon Si Yoon, Jung In Sun, and Park Sung Hoon have signed up for the drama to play a cat-and-mouse game with a mistaken identity twist. Yoon Si Yoon is a mousy, pushover of a stock broker who tries … Continue reading →
Another one of J-ent’s male leads got hitched and it’s Hayami Mokomichi‘s turn to surprise with a life long commitment. I feel like J-ent goes for the extremes, deny dating or hide to so well until it’s time to get married and them drop a bombshell on fans. Nothing wrong with that, ultimately fans can decide whether to continue to … Continue reading →
