Taiwan’s biggest producer of nicely packaged idol dramas SETTV held a thank you banquet at the Taipei Le Meredien over the weekend, the second successive big celebrity packed event at the fancy hotel after Mark Chao and Gao Yuan Yuan‘s wedding the might before. The network rented out the hotel banquet hall for its first ever sponsor gratitude event, hardly … Continue reading →
The upcoming KBS Mon-Tues drama Healer has remained consistently intriguing in all the promotional materials. Now all it has to do is actually deliver when it premieres next Monday. It can’t possibly be worse than its predecessor Tomorrow’s Cantabile in either ratings or quality, now can it? I don’t want to jinx the drama but there’s a great energy about … Continue reading →
Normally this isn’t really a post-worthy bit of casting (or non-casting) news but for the fact that it involves Kim Soo Hyun. Like him or not, think he’s overrated or not, find him an underwhelming actor or not, he’s one of the biggest twenty-something actors in Korea right now so his every move remains scrutinized by fans and media alike. … Continue reading →
It was a really rocky year in K-pop just based on the few unexpected events that were so big even I took notice of it, much less if a myriad of smaller scandals were added to it. On the K-acting side the biggest scandals were the one-two punch (no pun intended) of the Kim Hyun Joong alleged assault case followed … Continue reading →
If the quality of a movie could be gauged by how happy the cast is filming it, then The Tailors (Sanguiwon) is a sure fire win based on the bursting with joy cast at the movie press conference this week. I’m not exaggerating by describing the cast at the press conference as so giddy and glowing one would think they … Continue reading →
Color me mightily surprised, all in a good way I guess. Things were looking so dire on the production of MBC‘s Kill Me Heal Me, aka the drama that can’t lock down leads if its life depended on it. I figured there was nowhere to go but up and at this point even getting a lead (any lead) was cause … Continue reading →
There was so much intense narrative development going on in episode 8 of Pinocchio I’m not sure where to start discussing it. Normally the major escalation of romance between the OTP dominates an episode such as this one, but this drama has built up all the other important threads with such care that I’m equally as invested in the growing … Continue reading →
MBC is getting a lot of pessimistic press lately due to the casting debacle(s) around the upcoming high profile Kill Me Heal Me, but it actually did relatively well in ratings the entire year with wins in various time slots. It should at least thank the drama gods it’s not KBS. With that said, MBC has always been the drunk … Continue reading →
Who the heck made my baby boy cry? Noona Koala raaaaage! Oh, it’s tear of bittersweet happiness, I see? Sargent Yoo Seung Ho was discharged from the army this morning and promptly burst into the most sincere manly tears I’ve seen since Hyun Bin was discharged two years ago from the marines. Yoo Seung Ho thanked the gathered media and … Continue reading →
The writer of Pinocchio really knows how to end episodes on humdinger real tension moments. I still remember, fondly now because it’s absurd but with much aggravation when it was airing, each episode ender of Heirs was a stare down moment between the leads and later grew to include three way staring contests including the second male lead. It’s like the … Continue reading →
There are so many macro elements I love about Pinocchio but this drama continues to delight even more with the small details that I’m particularly partial to. I love winter setting K-dramas with the cold contrasting with the growing intensity of emotions and so far the drama masterfully brings in the chilly outside world intruding on the formerly idyllic world … Continue reading →
While all the attention is currently on the still casting MBC drama Kill Me Heal Me, over at KBS the final shakedown of the main leads for vampire medical drama Blood is nothing short of inexplicable. The rumored casting of newbie actor-model Ahn Jae Hyun has been confirmed as the male lead vampire doctor and Ji Jin Hee remains onboard as … Continue reading →
More 2014 year end polling fun for everyone! And this one is more up my alley as a K-drama can often be sunk or saved based on OTP chemistry alone. So who are your favorite and least favorite OTPs (one true pairing) of the year? A good story is a rare treat indeed but let’s not delude ourselves into seeing … Continue reading →
