The upcoming Mnet music drama Persevere Gu Hae Ra, which actually premieres moments away on January 9th, is one of those offerings that calls to me regardless of who is or isn’t cast just because the story interests me. It’s the music channel’s follow up to Monstar, a drama I loved to pieces even if it never reached full potential. It also had a cast unknown to me then and I grew to like everyone in it. Hopefully the same goes for this drama and it’s going to be a long uphill climb for me to like leading lady Min Hyo Rin. She’s been so anemic to me since Triple and nothing has ever made me warm up to her in either acting ability or her weirdly off-kilter looks.
I don’t dislike her so maybe a few year away from drama land brings her back much improved. Leading men Kwak Si Yang is a promising rising actor and Jinyoung of boyband B1A4 is easy on the eyes and evidences plenty of energy and charisma in the drama previews. What gets me most is the storyboard – basically classic shonen manga Touch set to a music backdrop rather than baseball. Hello? Twin brothers both in love with the girl who grew up next to them? Someone needs to pay Adachi a royalty. As long as no one dies in this drama then I’m so in for the potential delicious angst and great musical pipes. Just no shipping wars please.
Previews for Persevere Gu Hae Ra:
Me no likey Min Hyo Rin. I have convinced myself that it’s because of Triple that Lee Jung Jae no longer does dramas (or, you know, the fact that film >>>> drama in terms of prestige… but let’s not let that get in the way). Boo.
This looks like such a refreshing and cute drama, I have mixed feelings about the set-up – awwh the angst! But luckily it’s also about friends and music
Thanks for introducing us to yet another intriguing drama, Ms. Koala 😀
Feels like korean version of Glee…
high school musical…?
That sweater is so fugly, Min Hyo Rin must have really pissed off someone in the costume department.
