The Girl Who Sees Smells Episode 5 Recap — 25 Comments

  1. Woah, you’re so fast Koalas. Thanks for the recap 😀

Can’t wait for the subs after reading this, looks like Moo Gak and Cho Rim keep being cuter and cuter.

Agree with you about doctor Chun and Jae Hee. I don’t think Doctor Chun is the killer, maybe an eye witness? I’ve read a comment (somewhere) that have an interesting hypothesis about the person who hit Cho Rim that night is Doctor Chun. Maybe that’s what the reason why He remember her?

But there’s still not enough clue to pieces who’s the culprit. Maybe both of them is the red herring too, who knows…

For know, will enjoy the ride. And jealous Moo Gak, yay.

    • Now that you mention it, it makes sense. If dr.Chun was the one who hit Cho Rim, then it explains why he was at the hospital (then found out Eun Sol is dead and she’s not Cho Rim), though I still don’t know where he knows Cho Rim/Eun Sol’s name. The second possibility is that dr. Chun is indeed the murderer, ordered by Jae Hee. That explains the wrong victim (the barcode murderer knows the name and face, but the murderer only knows the name).

    • ohhh, I could see him as an eyewitness – or like an old friend of her father’s or something! His reaction to her xrays where more like, “I can’t believe I’ve finally found her!” not “and now she must die.”

So far, I can see Jae hee as the killer more than Chun. But…it might be someone else altogether. Adoptive dad? He’s been in all places. You could argue he took her in just to keep an eye on her in case her memory returned.

  2. Can anyone suggest the significant of mu gak’s giving the doll to cho rim with eun sol recorded voice message? of course he is missing his sister, but is he thinks cho rim as his sister now?

    • I think it might’ve been accidental. It seems like he brought two of the dolls, and after recording his message in one of the dolls, mistakenly put the other one on his sister’s altar instead. It doesn’t seem farfetched since the dolls are identical.

      • I agree. And remember when Moogak give Chorim the new sunglass but give her the broken one instead? So its possible that Moogak give the wrong one again.

  3. In the preview, Cho Rim said “I will always be beside you, so if it is dangerous, you can just protect me” Gawd I love Chorim. Noone can deal with Mugak except her. Get him, girl!

  4. Thanks for the recap Koala. At first I’m frustrated at Cho Rim who is way too naive when dealing with the chef but you were right her character is a kind person who is easily attached to others like how fast her relationship with Moo Gak develops. I’m glad both male (or three) are nice towards the heroine although two of them might be psycho murder. I don’t think I can stand another drama where the leads bicker like they are still in elementary school. So Moo Gak being awesome and taking care of Cho Rim is refreshing indeed.

  5. Kudos for The Girl who sees Smells! I am enjoying every episode so far – what more can I ask? That last scene of the cheery blossom petals falling on the OTP was so lovely.

  6. I love your take on every scene!! Thanks for the recap! this episode makes me ask ‘more’!!! Hahaha..and I do agree with you that it is not a matter of falling in love THAT fast but how their relationionsip blossoms due to their trust and commitment with each other. Oh how I adore them both! Fighting yoocbun and sekyungie!!! All the best! <3

  7. I always come here to read your post & never missed to read this drama recaps especially but havent left any comments yet so I feel bad to not say THANK YOU to you! Thank you Ms Koala for the always fast recaps and I love this drama to pieces! I hope it stays good till the end so u can recap happily 😉

  8. Koala, Thankyou so much for your fast recaps. It helps me with my confusions and helps me understand the situation better. I am so curious on who the real killer is and I can’t wait. I usually watch dramas that have been already aired and watch all 20 episode in two days. Its so hard for me to keep on waiting for new episodes and all i do these days are just think and wait for the episodes. I WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPEN!! Moogak and cholim are so cute and i can’t wait till their relationship gets hotter! AHH. I get goosebumps watching this drama. I’m so excited!

  9. Gahhh, I’m trekking in Sardinia right now and don’t have enough internet access to watch it, but I can already tell you this will be the first thing I’ll be watching when I get back!! I can’t freakin’ wait!

  10. Jae Hee’s existence screams pyscopath-on-the-lose.I feel Dr Chun is probably chasing the killer too and ends up being at the wrong place all the time and ends up as a suspect. Seen quite a lot of Crime&investigation Channel and Dr Chun is leaving too many obvious clues behind to be a serial killer. Serial killers aint that sloppy. My money is on Jae Hee. The dude is 50 shades of crazy and Cho Rim needs to run!

Or is Jae Hee, Tae-joo(Hyde,Jekyll and me) protégé? Has Jae Hee been hypnotizing people into doing his killings?

  11. I was about to say I agreed with your entire review, until I saw this: “The crime elements of this drama are simplistic but never crosses the line into the comical absurd.” Not for me! The actual “cop” elements of this Drama are as risibly ridiculous as annything in You’re All Surrounded or, more relevantly, PYC’s last 3Days. The cops here actually manage to make the Presidential Security Team in that Drama seem competent in comparison. Jo Hee Bong’s character especially seems to be the same pathetic snivelling useless excuse that his Gye Pal was in Yoona’s Street.

That’s why I fast forward through much of the clownish Clouseau cop bits of this Drama to focus on what it’s getting right – the humour and the OTP. I really hope it continues to keep the focus on those elements, because the “procedural” bits are so utterly pathetic that giving them any more focus would be a disaster. Let the leads share love, laughter and even loss, as long as it takes time away from the pretend police.

    • I very much agreed. That was the only part that I dislike and very weak plots. The woman chief doesn’t even have a good script to begin with. Most of her scenes is sighing. The investigation is so lame. How come they didn’t come out with the analysis of the barcodes and many details of the usual routines of high profile serial murder cases.

  12. Thanks for doing the recaps. That’s why I checked it out last week and I am all caught up this week.

The plot sounded terrible and I didn’t like SSK. I am still unsure about her in general but she is brilliant in this role.

It’s just that I have to laugh every time they do the comedy sketch. I see 2 glamourous actors in real life- then they do that silly sketch. Yoochun’s ” churrrr… ” is so loud and so funny. I haven’t heard him singing for a long time now and am used to him being an actor. It’s really funny seeing all the embarrassing moments.

The lead couple have an easy chemistry going and it’s kinda sweet. I can’t work out the other 2 male leads. I am not even aiming for a romance because I am too busy wondering who is the villain.

  13. Isn’t it possible – since Dr. Chun is an orthopedist – that he was
the doctor who took care of Cho Rim after her car accident – doing the surgery to fix her fractures? Perhaps that’s why he’s interested in
    her.

  14. i loved the first 4 episodes of this drama. but i dunno my future with it after watching ep. 5. The scene where Cho Rim was being chased by the murderer. She texted Moo Gak for help. But she never mentioned where she was. How the hell did Moo Gak found her? If he was the one who had the ability to “see smells” i would understand. And then he lost the suspect again. Moo Gak always looses the suspects that he is chasing. He is only able to catch them when he is with his co-detectives or he is with cho rim. the writer is making him that incapable. sigh. disappointed.

    • ahhh…GPS? okay fine. he’s a police officer..so yeah its possible..but that should have been highlighted…audiences like me won’t assume right away that its GPS. sigh.

  15. How did Moo Gak even found Oh Cho Rim at that toilet? And why did they suddenly investigate in households with the highest electricity bills? I didn’t understand that.
