With the Answer Me series going successively earlier in time it’s easy to forget that the first installment did a relatively recent nostalgia trip to 1997. Upcoming KBS Fri-Sat drama Go Back Spouses will return to that era of the late 90’s as unhappily married lead characters played by Son Ho Joon and Jang Nara time-travel back to 1999 when their characters are in college and thereby get a second chance to pick someone else. I loved the oldie HK drama Cherished Moments but in that drama only the wife went back and of course she ended up picking the same man because the corollary of time-travel do overs never trumps the even more important drama principle that true love finds each other always. It’s way more narratively intriguing for both spouses to go back and try to avoid each other, and still end up together but hopefully this time have the insights to make it work. I thoroughly enjoyed the previews and promos for Go Back Spouses, the cute Macarena teaser was fun but a tad concerning because recent KBS flop Manhole also did a funny dance teaser. Here’s hoping Go Back Spouses is as entertaining a drama to watch as the promos.
Go Back Couple:
Time travel… again…
Somehow 18, Live up to your name, Manhole, The best hit, Reunited worlds (a little more complicated than time travel), Tomorrow with you, Tunnel, My Only Love Song…
Loved that Macarena teaser. Looks fun. Yes, it’s time travel again……..but, if it’s executed well, I’m up for it. Also, Jang Nara is a million times better at comedy than Uee.
The title teaser is superbly done though. It may be good, plus JNR and SHJ are clearly in every way superior leads to the Manhole peeps.
I agree, the leads are far better than Manhole
Jang Nara never aging. I could agree if she’s been a cast in Age of Youth lol
I really like the story’s concept and being a fan of Jang Nara and having a soft spot for Son Ho Joon from the Reply days, I’ll check it out for sure. The plot reminds me of another drama from this year, Love, Timeless. That Taiwanese series also had the main characters go back in time to their college age and a chance to start anew. They also retain their memories from their past lives, so their mental age is older than their friends. The major difference is that in that story, the guy and girl are just best friends from childhood and not officially together dating. Whereas here, the lead couple is already married and have a baby too, which makes it even more complicated.
