L Leaves Woollim Entertainment to Go Solo and May Have Plagiarized Departure Statement from Seohyun of SNSD

In this day and age where everything is memorialized online, it’s never ever going to be erased so the memory is loooong people. L (Kim Myung Soo) has been in the news a lot these last two days, first for leaving his long time label Woollim Entertainment which got positive feedback from his fans and the public since he’s put in his dues, but then sentiment changed once his handwritten departure message to his fans appeared to have whole sections lifted from the departure note that SNSD‘s Seohyun wrote to her fans when she struck out solo. First of all, it’s not an phD thesis or even a term paper so even if he straight up copied sections he’s not getting in trouble, other than seeming insincere since the purpose of handwriting such a message is the convey his own feelings to his fans. What do you guys think? It’s a bit much ado about nothing but I do feel stars need to own up when they are being lazy and not get credit for stuff they didn’t do.

L Leaves Woollim Entertainment to Go Solo and May Have Plagiarized Departure Statement from Seohyun of SNSD — 18 Comments

  1. Gosh that was a dumb move on his part. Knetz are like CSI agents in disguise and can smell a rat a mile away. Why L? Is time that precious you’ve resorted to straight up biting other idols genuine feelings and made it your own? Not cool what a knob.

  2. ahh, in the grand scheme of things, does it matter. Doesn’t all farewell letters to the agency have similar wording. I will still watch his dramas. Knetz need to get a life and stop trying to blow everything out of porportion

    • Not a “mistake”. A mistake is something done unintentionally, by accident, without design or intent. Copying text verbatim dos not fit any of those criteria. He clearly did it deliberately, with the the intent of passing it off as his own. He could simply have acknowledged the source by saying something like “as Seohyun said in a similar situation” or “to quote Seohyun”. By not citing the source, he made it clear that his intent was for those who read his statement to believe the whole thing was his own original product. That is not “a mistake”

      • This isn’t a thesis gosh. Let him be even if he did it purposely. It’s just a goodbye letter not like he committed any sort of crime. Maybe he’s just bad at expressing his feelings. All these letters look and sound the same anyway so what does it even matter. He had good intentions which is sufficient. He’ll do well no matter what he does in the future.

  3. Oh off topic another dumb move in the K pop land of K pop starlets apparently Red Velvet/SM have been called out for plagiarising a designer’s style of outfit and the resemblance is so similar that the designer has posted examples of her dresses and yep sorry RV are guilty as or should I say their stylists are. Paris Starn under label Paris 99 was alerted to the massive faux pa by RV and is waiting on an update/comment from SM. Soompi has the article. The agency stylists for K pop groups really need to stop stealing other people’s hard earned work and stop passing it off as their own creation. It’s just wrong and embarrassing for the group more then anything else.

  4. Fans found out that he copied word-for-word sentences from 5 other idols’ letters too (with Seohyun’s being the most copied). He should’ve at least paraphrase the words instead of just copying them verbatim lol. It’s not a big deal, but it’s uncool considering a handwritten letter suppose to convey sincerity lol.

  5. But how would you know those other celebrities didn’t copy others either? Not siding, with him and I can’t read Korean. However..doesn’t most leave letters state the following – I have had 10 good years with XYZ company, however I would like to branch out and set myself up for more challenges. I have good memories and to my members that I have worked with so many years, even though we are no longer together we would still be the best of friends and all those memories etc???

I mean, when I leave a company, I honestly take a memo straight off the internet for the appropriate wording, tweak it by some to make it seem like it was personalized, but pretty sure, all it does is go to HR. I don’t know why Fans and Knetz would just be up in arms…he is not writing a thesis nor is he publishing a book and making money off his letter. He is just letting the world know that he is no longer with his agency, which is actual something legally that needs to be done so that everyone is given notice that he is no longer with the company… in case someone wanted to work with L.

Also given that he is an idol, he probably didn’t have the time to write one up and think of what to write. So many stories of idols being so tired that they would have fainting spells and end up in Hospitals.

He is a good actor…not sure of his singing as I don’t follow his band or his singing career…but that one drama where he was a lawyer, he was awesome in it. He will go far with his acting.

    • No it doesn’t. He’s worked hard for 10 years and it’s shown in all his work he’s done till now. Maybe he doesn’t have any writing skills or the statements are just too generic who cares!

  7. He should not write anything to begin with. To shed his idol image, he should focus on his acting (which he was good in his past two dramas) and let his work do all the talking. K-pop fans are delulu, nothing will please them anyways. Better stay quiet and work. Now he has ruined it by talking too much. LOL. I have a feeling that his ex-agency made him handwrite this fan letter by copying from a scripted plagiarized sample. He probably does not know what he was copying from and got himself into this embarrassment. Not surprised as all K-idols are just puppets without much brain needed.

  8. I feel second hand embarrassment from him after seeing all over on twitter how he copied 5 other idol’s messages and strung one up “hand written”. LOL jokes.

Not sure what he’s planning to do as a solo. I hope it’s not full time acting because UGHHHH.

  9. I remember how he has the same image like Cha eunwoo in the past. Tho he is better now, Im not sure he can go solo yet.
About the letter I kinda pity him. Knetz is really sharp

  10. K-Pop fandoms haven’t changed I see.

Personally, I think it’s dumb. It’s just other fans of idol groups doing the most. And honestly, this sounds so typical and basic that he more than likely didn’t write it himself but had to make it look like he did. I wouldn’t be surprised if the PR told him what to put down. I just wish companies stop having idols write these blatant insincere nonsense for fans. Woollim didn’t even need this. The fans were alright with L leaving.

In some ironic twist, they made the leave worst with bad by having him post this, lol.
