CJ Entertainment Continues US Remake Discussions for Crash Landing on You Including with Disney+ and Apple TV and K-netizens Speculate Where the Landing Will Take Place
CJ Entertainment which owns the rights to K-drama Crash Landing on You announced a few months ago that the drama would get a US remake. Apparently nothing is confirmed yet because CJ remains in discussions over which US company will get the remake rights. I thought it could be Netflix which had the streaming rights to the original series which broadcast in South Korea on cable network tvN. But now it’s being revealed that discussions are also underway with competitive streaming sites Apple TV and Disney+. This also sounds like the US remake will be a streaming only show and not air on network television which is becoming more and more common nowadays as most of the shows on the Best US shows of 2021 list are on streaming only or paid such as Ted Lasso, Bo Burnham: Inside, Clickbait, Dickinson, the Marvel TV shows, Midnight Mass, and Mare of Easttown is a HBO series which is cable and not network. Anyhoo, here are some K-netizen speculations on the setting of a US Crash Landing: period drama American Civil War era North/South, US/Mexico border with the drug trade, Cold War era Soviet small plane, US/Cuba with a boat, US soldier parachuting into East Berlin during the Cold War era.

I’m still perplexed on how this will work in any other setting. I read that the CLOY musically will hit theatre stages in September. That would be really cool to see in person because theatre adaptations can be really well done.
Speaking of SonYejin and Hyun Bin, was there no dispatch couple reveal this year???
I hope not for Dispatch, it’s a very strange and disturbing tradition especially with how judgmental korean netizens can get about who celebs date.
#Dispatch is trending now in France as many were waiting and are finding it suspiscious . As an old kdrama fan it’s the first time that i experience that . A few years ago, when i was speaking about dramas and other stuff, people didn’t even know about South Korea !?♀️? BTS , Parasite, Squid Game contribution is no joke !
No 2022 dispatch reveal for dating couple. Instead in their sns they announced a D’FESTA k-pop concert stacked with top groups from the big 4 companies. Rumours were flying that most top k-pop idols are protected from being revealed by dispatch coz their agencies struck a deal with dispatch by agreeing to this dispatch “hostage” concert.
Yep. To commemorate Dispatch 10 year anniversary, they managed to “invite” BTS, TWICE, NU’EST, NCT 127, NCR Dream, Seventeen, Stray Kids, ENHYPHEN, TXT to perform for them.
Damn, I was hoping dispatch would reveal one of the top actors for dating. Ok so the K-pop idols are always in the rumour mill and then break-up. Like Kai and Jennie.
That’s what netizens are thinking in my country too . They don’t get why big groups are doing a concert for the biggest stalker ?
My guess for the remake’s crash landing location was Cuba lol.
Though even that would have to be some years ago since I think Cuba now lets Americans enter their country.
Set it in eastern ukraine like donbasss. Have a high ranking russian double spy agent fall in love with a rich ukrainian heiress whose family has a deal with putin’s gas pipeline to europe. it’s literally packed with nuclear missile ww3 tension.
It will be set in contemporary times between the US and its famously hostile neighbor, Canada.
This I can imagine going to set off tons of jokes, memes and gifs. Cue the fan wars btween original cloy fans and cloy us made fans. My eyes are also on the adaptation of tvn’s little women. How is the writer going to spin it in modern day korea? At the very least please tvn cast some eye candy actors too.
Lots of interesting suggestions for the location – Cuba, Ukraine……maybe a Middle East country.
However nothing can every improve in the utterly perfect original Crash Landing on You. We watched it 18 months ago (discovering k drama was, for us, the one positive about lockdown) and I’ve rewatched various scenes many times since.
Is it only me who don’t get the hype of this drama
