Xiao Zhan Graces the Cover and Pages of Esquire China April 2023 Edition Three Years After His April 2020 Edition was Scrapped in the Wake of the 227 Incident

I still remember the Xiao Zhan 227 Incident from 3 years ago but in the intervening time it felt like people thought he would be much more negatively impacted then he actually was. This month for April 2023 C-actor Xiao Zhan has two covers and a whole pictorial for Esquire China, quite a fantastic one at that I love the spare and contemplative visuals and vibe. Back in April 2020 he did a whole pictorial for Esquire and was to get the cover and the pictures even leaked beforehand, but it was scrapped and the magazine went with a near blank cover instead. The assumption was that on February 27th one month prior, BL fans went on a cancel campaign against Xiao Zhan after his fans reported the BL fanfiction work which featured Xiao Zhan’s character with Wang Yibo’s character from The Untamed or even fanfiction using both actors in real life. The C-government cracked down and BL fans blamed Xiao Zhan fans for and decided to organize a campaign against him. Perhaps the Esquire leak was from them and the consequence was the magazine scrapping it. Now its water under the bridge and Xiao Zhan is finally getting his Esquire limelight.

  2. Xiao Zhan and his fans suffered alot during that year. To be honest, it’s obvious to me that this 227 incident was, for a large part, organised by his rivals who were jealous of his newfound popularity after The Untamed. Many C-actors and C-actressses will receive an onslaught of negative press after they got popular. For Xiao Zhan’s case, they had spent a few months but couldn’t dig up any real dirt about his past so they resorted to using his fandom to create negative press for him, which led to this 227 incident.

    • XZ doesn’t have backing which is why he got hacked. They counted on removing him then moving the fans over in order to get all that money he was generating under their control. And it is a lot of money, he doesn’t have the title of God of Wealth for nothing. They didn’t count on his fans being mostly mature, employed adults who read through the situation quickly and then dug in to weather it out. What a mistake, nothing will move them now after that storm. You could say, a fandom forged in fire.

The whole ao3 thing was totally manufactured to cover this. And there was more than one actor camp behind this.

      • I’ve honestly seen time and time again artist(s) being on the receiving end of epic levels of anti behavior only leading to their fanbase becoming a force to be reckoned with. Them going into protective overdrive to champion them leads their artist(s) to the top of the food chain. It happened with Girls Generation and later with BTS. I think they wind up working even harder to build up their favorites and then relish their reign at the top as a FU to all the antis who tried to drag their artist(s) down. Unfortunately all the fervor sometimes can do just as much harm as it does good. Immature pissing contests over who gets top billing, who has the most ad campaigns, who had the more successful dramas, etc.. is just sad. Even people who worked together not being able to even look at each other without fans going into deep delusion is crazy. I was looking at the pics of Hu Ge with Wu Lei recently and it was so refreshing. Then I came across Hu Ge’s deep friendships with Yuan Hong and Wallace Huo and their peers and honestly wish I saw more friendships with this current crop of actors and less of the incessant rivalries.

      • @Mia, as much as what goes on behind the scene, much is unknown. These celebs friendship, some were genuine, some with mutual interest, and some are just passing friends. We don’t know what relationship are established in their real life, so it’s too much to put the burden of them not greeting each other as them having bad blood because of fans. Some were friends some were not. It’s just as simple as that. In the end, it’s the artist decision on what behavior they wanna put out in public, who they wanna greet, who they chose not to, who they make friends with or not. Stop making it seems as is, “woe is me, everything is fans fault” 🤷

      • @Lilychii

Yes, especially as in cent many big fans are direct employees of agencies that handle actors and they play out whatever agencies demand.

One never knows in entertainment who are actual friends and who is hiding misery behind fake smiles.

  3. The magazine was cancelled because psychopaths that call themselves bjyx or yizhan, that are actually Wang Yibo fans, and accepted by him, leaked the materials in advance. That and the whole cyber bullying campaign had the mag cover cancelled.

Now full circle and returned to him with a brilliant interview. Photos are nice but the interview is the true gem here. I am glad he resisted the 2020 attack and all the others that came after.

  4. so he got cancelled because his fans dared to report real-person fanfiction featuring him?

For once neither actor nor fans are in the wrong here, writing fanfiction about real people who are alive IS creepy and wrong. Ridiculous to cancel him for that.

    • The fanfiction depicted him as a trans prostitute who then went on to have sex with a minor wyb. This somehow turned into a fight for gay rights, all fake of course. Chinese government planned to put ao3 under restrictions long before that and anyway, you can still access it with a vpn with no problem.

You wouldn’t believe what these psychos did. This fiction thing was minor. They hada gant wedding, in a big yard where half of them wore xz and half wyb face masks on. Then they held the wedding for each pair. When xz repudiated them, they had a coffin for him and held a wake with grieving wyb next to it. None of this is even remotely normal behaviour and when you se their fantasies on twitter, these people don’t live in any kind of reality. No wonder they embrace wyb. He keeps giving them candies. Xz runs the other way.

Anyway, as I said, the whole Ao3 thing was a giant organised fake to try and bring him down. Avenuex for example had two videos about this, both still up even though it has been proven false which is why I cannot stand her guts. In one video she talked about people committing suicide because of him, all proven false. Can you imagine weaponising suicide because her fave was being endangered by xz? This whole thing really brought out the worst.

      • wow.. i never know the psychotic behaviour was to that extent. that’s insane indeed. not a fan of him. but it’s justifiable to report the fanfiction then. delusional

      • Finally someone exposed AvenueX. I’ve been suspicious of her being a fan of WYB. She is fishy when referring to 227. I stopped visiting her channel after her biased narratives of 227. I already liked Xiao Zhan as a singer a lot. While I like a few C actors, I’ve never been a real fan of anyone else. But after some online dig-in of Ao3, I could call myself a fan of Xiao Zhan. He himself is such an art to appreciate! The Gucci CEO in an interview during the Milan Fashion Week this year told the reason he chose XZ as the brand ambassador was that XZ exhibits a strong character going through the hell of 227.

  5. Follow the money and you will find who benefited the most in 2020 when he was forced to disappear to deal with the worst cyberbullying ever executed in c-ent history. Those are the ones who planned and executed the 227 @ttack.

      • LMAO. You Xiao Zhan fans are not far behind though. You are always demeaning other actors.

      • Look at yourself in the mirror when dissing others. At least fans of Xiao Zhan won’t be engaged in name calling like you rabid fans of other actors. LOL

      • @somebody Are you sure? Just take a look at MyDramaList and other articles by him on this site, they are full of comments made by mentally challenged scumbags, they are worse than my fake words. LMAO! LMAO! You’re a ridiculous piece of shit, you only talk about rabid fans when it suits you, but when it comes to your own fandom you turn a blind eye. LMAO! That’s why I hate this plastic monster named Xiao Zhan so much. I don’t know if I hate Xiao Zhan or Luo Yunxi more LOL! It doesn’t matter the outcome as long as I can give their fandoms a hard time. LOL! Next was going to be the Wang Yibo fandom and I think you’re going to enjoy it since you hate that man.
