2023 Busan International Film Festival Kicks Off with Star Studded Red Carpet Led by Top Movie Stars Chow Yun-fat and Song Kang Ho
The 2023 Busan International Film Festival kicked off this Wednesday evening with a large contingent of stars on the red carpet for the first big award of the night. HK superstar Chow Yun-fat took home the honorary Asian Filmmaker of the Year award and top Korean movie star Song Kang Ho did MC duties alongside next gen top actress Park Eun Bin. The fashion was forgettable other than Park Eun Bin’s lovely blue dress and on the opposite end Fan Bing Bing looking like a walking The Blob in her pink frock. All the dudes looked better on average than the ladies IMO.
Koala you posted the best and brightest of the stars pictures on your blog. I looked at what the stars wore on another site, and you would think that the Korean stars were going to a Funeral instead of a red carpet event, they mostly all wore a form of black. The few exceptions are the pictures you posted. Thank goodness invited C-stars brought some color onto the red carpet otherwise it would have looked so dreary. I noticed a lot of the female stars in pant suits, might be the trend this season.
Fan Bing Bing showed up and wiped everyone else with the carpet. Love her dress. It was beautiful in motion and then color works against her skin.
Park Eunbin always dresses like she’s cosplaying a Disney princess. Yawn.
Everyone else is boring.
I agree about Fan Bing Bing! I know she’s “cancelled” or whatever, but she’ll always be a goddess! She made everyone look plain in comparison with that face, that dress, and that unbeatable aura!
lol, right? funny how koala is praising park eun bin’s dress when it’s literally just your typical plain princessy dress, just not in black or white color, and she’s criticizing fan bing bing’s dress when it’s the one that’s worthy of praise as it suits fan bing bing’s skintone and it’s very fashion-forward, unlike the korean actresses’ dresses lol. fan bing bing literally looks like a goddess or an ethereal creature gracing everyone with her presence lol. park eun bin must be one of koala’s favorites that’s why she’s being biased 😅
Fan Bingg Bing’s dress looks amazing…the colour is great against her skin tone. I need to see this dress in full length and in motion…will goggle.
At least Fan Bing Bing tried something interesting… Korean entertainment seems to have no fashion sense outside of a casual setting.
Park Eun Bin literally looks like she’s going to prom.
How can a country as South Korea being so much into fashion, always in search of the perfect beauty, having ambassadors for the most wanted Parisian luxury brands …showing at every event such boring red carpets . Black is not a new concept, Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith already did it 25 years ago . I thought that YSL’s défilé was boring but koreans are the best, they should have a their own Haute Couture brand to create only white and black dresses for them . Park Eun Bin was wearing a beautiful color but the dress is like Cinderella , Han Ye Ri ‘s gown is beautiful but Audrey Hepburn already show this kind of dress in Sabrina .
Fan bingbing is the only one bringing anything remotely interesting to the table. That dress looked so stunning in motion, molten-like. I always lok. forward to her red carpet fashion – always interesting and outside of the box
Omg Uri Eomma, Han Hyojoo T__T what happened ..
I don’t get the “walking blob” comment, I think Bing Bing looks fantastic! I LOVE Krystal’s hair and makeup, but wish she picked a more glamorous, Old Hollywood style dress to match the hair and makeup. I don’t think Park Eun Bin’s dress or styling is anything to write home about, make her dress white, beige, or black and everyone would call it boring too lol. I’m not even gonna comment on the others, way too boring lol
I also love Crystal’s hair. When everyone is doing the same hairstyle, at least hers was somewhat different. Dk why Korean actors never tries different hairstyle at the red carpet.
Because most of them have the same face shape due to plastic surgery? So limited to only a certain hairstyle? Haha I dunno
Why bring plastic surgery into discussion? Frankly, Chinese stars look much more similar to each other than the Koreans (and Japanese for that matter)

Okay, I don’t get it… I thought personal color analysis is super popular in korea right now? I went there just recently and even the cosmetic products are sorted by color seasons (winter, summer, autumn, spring) so that customers can choose the right makeup for their color seasons. so why are these actresses not dressed in their right color palette? the only ones I can think of who follow their palette most of the time are kim hye soo and lim ji yeon. the black dresses look too harsh on many of these actresses with their light and delicate features and coloring imo
I’m giving an unpopular opinion. I always think Chinese red carpets are full of cheesy, blatantly extravagant, overly loud but tacky palettes. Chinese celebrities have no appreciation of quiet beauty in fashion. I recall that XZ’s top-notch Tod’s dress was also critical of being old fashioned during his visit of the Milian Fashion show this year. FBB’s dress looks both in color and material like drapes I found from Amazon window treatment search. My eyes hurt as usual. LOL
Quiet BEAUTY in fashion? This is an interesting take on the birthday party and prom dresses presented here. Also a truly unpopular take that 98% of people who knew anything about the topic would disagree with.
I disagree as well!
Dress for the event! What the public wants to see on the red carpet is glamour. What K-stars bring to the table is anything but. At least the C-stars know how to mix it up and keep things entertaining in the red carpet. The public does NOT want to see funeral and prom themed dresses that don’t photograph well. They look like they barely spent any time thinking about what to wear and just showed up in the most convenient outfit at hand. Even their hair and accessories are boring.
Never cared for Hollywood much, but even THEY know how to work a red carpet. It’s all about making a statement.
Why are all the korean celebrities (except park eun bin) in black? Is there funeral, protest or something? Lol. They really need new stylists.
Krystal looks gorgeous though. Like absolutely stunning. I could care less that the celebrities are not haute couture enough for some people. At this point, it’s safe to say Koreans prefer a more understated look.
And considering there are quite atrocious outfits in film events and what have you (along with some good), maybe it isn’t so bad.
I think FBB has slayed fashion for this year, period. Her old ensembles used to be kind of boring to me, if not cliche. But this year, she has made me gasp with her outfits – they’ve been fantastic, fun, visually stunning and interesting. She’s made herself a visual art piece instead of boring, professional black-tie event garbs. Deserves accolade amongst c-actresses this year if only for fashion.
FBB is tall and then she wore even higher shoes. So she is statuesque and made the coral dress look amazing. There is no comparison. FBB with perfect makeup, is a super model compared to the others who are just commoners.
I have no (big) issue with their black-and-white outfits; however, I wish they would at least find some compelling designs, give up the prom dresses and do something more interesting with their hair and make-up (and JEWELRY!).
Krystal might be wearing a simple black dress (she’s a Ralph Lauren ambassador so nothing much to expect) but she stands out because of that glamourous hairstyle and bold lipstick. She did the same at Cannes this year: a simple pink Ralph Lauren dress elevated by styling. Karina from Aespa and Jeon Yeo-been were also absolutely gorgeous at Cannes despite their black/white dresses, again thanks to good styling.
Kim Hye-soo is also always fantastically dressed on the red carpet. Why can’t younger actresses (and their stylists) learn from her? It’s not like they don’t have the resources, what with SK being such a big market for luxury consumption, K-music/films/dramas being so hot right now and dozens of stars being ambassadors for the biggest brands out there. There would be designers fighting to dress them if these stars bothered to try.
