C-netizens are Not Feeling the Vibe with the 12-year Age Gap in First Posters and Stills of Wu Jing Yan and Wang Xing Yue in C-drama The Double
Filming wrapped a few months earlier for period C-drama The Double with the more lyrical Chinese title Ink Rain Between the Clouds so the drama will most likely air in 2024. It will mark a comeback for leading lady Wu Jing Yan after 3 years and even more pressing after a slew of drama misses after her career making hit drama Story of Yanxi Palace. She may have gotten lucky with male lead Wang Xing Yue who is a fast rising young actor that just got two decent personal performance outings this year with Scent of Time and Story of Kunning Palace. But I didn’t even bother to check their real life ages so I was shocked to see that they have a 12-year age gap, she’s 33 and he’s just a baby 21. C-netizens are already pooh-pooh-ing this pairing with the age gap and their visuals not generating any chemistry.
This one I have to see the actual snippets of them together to decide. She’s pretty youthful looking and he’s 1) apparently older than his reported age (due to too much competition in ‘95 actor group, not sure how true is this) and 2) it didn’t seem like there might be much of any age difference between him and Bai Lu in Kunning Palace, he has a pretty mature look for his age. The 8-year gap between Jing Tian and Xu Kai wasn’t apparent in Wonderland of Love so this might just work somehow as well.
He looked much older than the reported age, at least in ALL of his dramas. I actually thought he was some sorta older actors who were always in supporting roles. Cdrama fans overhype about this actor, both in acting and visuals.
He is not the first actor that looks more mature than his real age. Remember Chen Xing Xu in Goodbye My Princess ?

This is a 21 year old that looks 40, so I don’t see the problem.
That’s the impression I got from him in the dramas.
Yeah some younger actors have a mature look. Something I miss with current leads quite frankly. Won Bin was only 22 when he did Autumn In My Heart. I was surprised Zhang BinBin was only 23 when he did Eternal Love. Now you have Song Kang who is 29 and he could totally pass for 23.
Song Kang can play Park Ji Hoon’s chingu
40? Lol. Your braincells are not working properly.
He’s 21? He looks older than 21.
He looks older in drama but when i watched the interview or their promo videos, he looked younger without much makeup.
Nowadays, i always give every single drama a try, but only one drama or two that i keep watching. Will also give this one a try.
The year is ending. I had to comeback here and say this : now where are those C-Netizens ?
