Oh, me likey! The more Xiao Zhan can get away from xianxia the better IMO, even with his breakout beloved The Untamed it’s been too many years now and with last year’s underwhelming The Longest Promise I would love to see him in a more grounded role. The first BTS stills have hit the interwebs from the set of currently filming C-drama Zang Hai Zhuan or The Chronicles of Zang Hai with that being his character’s fake name in the drama. The plot reads like the male leads in Nirvana in Fire and Story of the Kunning Palace where he’s back in the Palace for revenge after his family is unjustly wiped out.
No one can beat XZ’s visuals in costume dramas. Besides The Untamed and The Youth Memories, this new drama is something I have a high expectation of the quality.

Ethereal Beauty! I liked the actors in The Untamed but the drama was tacky.
What a gorgeous man and he has the temperament for this type of roles so it looks especially good. With Zheng Xiaolong at the helm, I am hopeful it’s going to be a great drama.
He’s very well suited for costume dramas. He came emote very well and carries himswlf accordingly.
I think he gained a little bit of weight which is great because it’s very difficult to take him seriously when he’s so extremely thin.
Actually compared to the movie time just a month ago he lost weight, significantly. You can see it in his face.
But his upper body is much stronger, both his arms, shoulders and his chest are so much more developed now and those muscles remain so it looks good in costumes.
I was thinking he actually looked a bit too skinny now. But that’s how it’s supposed to look nice in costume dramas. In real life, I personally like his visuals better when filming the movie months ago.
He looks great as always.
Very handsome indeed! I love it when actors/actresses fits in historical garment so well as well as carry themselves as actually living in that era.
He looks so handsome in these pictures above. Did you watch the last two nights’ award shows? Xiao Zhan won one award each in these shows. I’m surprised that Koalas didn’t write anything about these two award shows. Many artists attended them.
I was surprised there is no photos of him in her lineup either… And also other popular artistes…
I’m hoping that this will be a good watch. I’ve been a fan of Xiao Zhan’s acting and singing so I’m looking forward to this as well. It would also be great if he could sing one of the OSTs, but I’ll take what I can get, haha.
