There are some stars one just vibes that his or her career is basically over and I sense that from K-actress Han Ye Seul. And I mean only her career as a leading lady in K-ent, she can still be a celebrity in many ways but the decade where she was a top leading drama actress is now ten years in the rear view mirror. The runaway debacle of Spy Myung Wol was not solely her fault and she did have a successful comeback with Birth of a Beauty as her then next drama, but after that it was a drama every few years until her last drama in 2019 Big Issue. She was in talks to headline the K-drama The Queen Lives in Seoul but now the production has been shelved/cancelled after it failed to get any interest from networks and streaming platforms and also no available time slots. I think if she does weekend dramas maybe she could build her way back up or stay in that lane, who knows.

Why did she see the need for so many cosmetic procedures, I dont understand? She really look so odd now...
I agree. I'm not an expert or insider so I don't know if there's any other reasons why she's not getting cast in many dramas anymore, but I also suspect that her overly plastic look might be one of the reasons. I think Koreans are secretly okay with plastic surgeries in their stars as long as the result is natural-looking. But I think the overly plastic look is just off-putting to your average Korean viewer, and that's why you'll see the actors and actresses with super obvious plastic surgeries in very very small roles or bit parts and not leading roles. The ones in lead roles are all relatively natural-looking faces, even those who actually had lots of surgeries done. So I'm really hoping my faves don't get plenty of surgeries in the future until they become obscure lol
I'm sure ageism is also a factor as to why HYS is not getting much work anymore, as we all know that entertainment industries are very cruel towards aging women. But many actresses in her age range are still getting good projects, so I don't think it's the sole reason. KPop fans may like the overly plastic look, but I think the majority of KDrama viewers don't
She offended PD in South Korea when she threw a big tantrum in Spy Myung-wol, protest loudly to public and did not turn up for work. Her protest was justified but it just was not acceptable by SK dramaland. Many PD stayed of her...but she still had a number of dramas after. I think her high profile exBF did help with his resource. But they have broken up.
I dont know why she over did it will Cosmetic Procedures, as she looked pretty already.
There was a scandal with her boyfriend. But I don't know if it's because of that.
right? if i didn't know she's an actress, i would think that she's some random social media influencer with the very plastic face
Yes... I like her more natural look...
She was a beauty , still don't get why she does so much PS, but it's her decision . Now , it's really hard for actresses to make a comeback , with all the new faces, and the actresses about the same age who continued to work ... Why will producers bother to pay more when they can have a rookie for less money . This is the reason i understand actresses as Park Min Young, Jang Na Ra, Kim Hee Sun , ...who still working non stop . Even Song Hye Kyo who used to do a project every 4/5 years , is working non stop since DOTS .
In recent years, there have been greater demand for experienced, skilled and older actresses. I noticed more veterans are coming back to work. And they get lead roles and good scripts. Thus not idol dramas but still very popular.
Unfortunately I dont think Han Ye Seul fits that bracket with her current looks/skills. She is now in a rather awkward position...
I agree with you @HL but it's actresses without the so called "scandal", or great names that left dramas for movies and are coming back because the scripts are sometimes better than the ones of some movies, and they are well paid . The same goes in other countries , Nicole kidman, Reese Witherspoon, ... before Netflix , Glenn Close who was popular in the 80's was one the first actresses to take a role for tv " Damages" . A decade ago , there was a wall between movie's actors and drama's actors in western countries. Now , with the powerfull Netflix, Prime, Disney+, ...they don't mind anymore . And it's a good thing !
@Cahill I agree, it is a good thing. They rather invest with trusted names and experience with Netflix, Prime, Disney+
So we are seeing more actress in 40s,50s out from their soft retirement..
Many dramas seem to get canceled lately as network reduce their timeslots and streaming is starting to look like a bubble about to burst. I just wonder why the demise of this one was noisier than the others.
Kfans must be so used to plastic surgery these days because in the recent Youtube interview where she talks about her shelved kdrama, there was barely any comment about how much her face has changed. Public perception about her seems to have improved after she fought back at Garo Sero about the Burning Sun rumors and the dirt about her boyfriends' past.
