K-netizens Top 3 Actress Picks for the High Profile Remake of Goong are Shin Ye Eun, Roh Jeong Eui, and Go Yoon Jung

So after years of talks and planning, the K-drama remake of Goong (Princess Hours) is happening this year. Not sure if it will air this year but the filming is by all accounts definitely happening. The original is still beloved and for many just a wonderful fond memory of falling in love with K-dramas through Goong or one of its same era dramas. It’s also been over 15 years so I can accept a remake but it will hinge strongly on the casting of the leads most importantly female lead Chae Kyung with all her plucky cuteness that catapulted Yoon Eun Hye to superstardom. K-netizens have been discussing the casting and the top 3 actresses most commonly mentioned as the perfect modern day Chae Kyung are, in no particular order, Shin Ye Eun, Roh Jeong Eui, and Go Yoon Jung. I bow down to K-netz because any of the three would be great IMO. The only other right age right aura actress I can see in the role is Kim Yoo Jung but she’s so famous she may bring baggage and expectation to the role rather than a fresh take.

K-netizens Top 3 Actress Picks for the High Profile Remake of Goong are Shin Ye Eun, Roh Jeong Eui, and Go Yoon Jung — 32 Comments

    • Ro Yeon Soo is a good actress and is age-appropriate for the role but I think her visuals is very high fashion model-like, so I don’t think she would be believable as Chaekyung, who is more of a girl-next-door type

      • What the heck? Every single of her roles so far has been girl next door. Model Like? Nah, have you not seen actual high fashion models? lol. what a differences of opinion?

      • @lil Alright, calm down, I’m just sharing my opinion lol. In my opinion, she looks like the Korean models I’m seeing my social media feed, that’s why I said that, that’s all. It ain’t that serious lol

      • @lil i think what yejin was saying was that rys doesn’t have that bubbly, soft girl look the other choices have. Idk, like round features and smiley faces?

  1. Go Yoonjung is too pretty to play Chaekyung in my opinion. I mean Chaekyung is your average Jane who becomes the center of attention when she becomes Crown Princess. Go Yoonjung’s acting in the second part of “Alchemy of Souls” demonstrated she could do comedy but her face and aura fits Min Hyo-in more, but she obviously won’t play a second female lead as she has reached the status of a leading lady.

    • I totally agree! I get that “Plain Janes” in KDramas are still pretty girls (ie. Lee Sung Kyung in WLFKBK, Koo Hye Sun in BOF, Park Shin Hye in her earlier dramas), but I think the actress who will play as Chaekyung should be more cute/pretty than beautiful/gorgeous, if that makes sense. GYJ would fit the Min Hyo Rin role more as she has this almost icy quality to her beauty. She’s more striking than cute/pretty IMO

  2. Please dont remake till you get the perfect male lead too… have read the Korean Manhwa… this is not just about the beautiful, naive and adorable lead actress… There is also the Prince.

I love the original alot when I watched it years ago… I enjoy watching how the 2 leads grow into the adults they became… I was really upset when they had to get a divorce but I know it is better for the couple. They can find themselves and love each other more.

  3. KIM HYE YOON ! She would be great ! I agree with @HL , casting the perfect male lead is really important . The 2006 couple had a great chemistry which contributed in great part to the success of the drama . With that said i don’t see the need to make a remake . Are they going to do this with all the successfull old dramas ( Kim Samsoon, Coffee Prince, Damo, My girl, Secret garden, Full House,…

      • @HL i watch her YT Vlog also . With her new haircut and color she looks younger . She stills has her aura and charisma . I ‘d like to see her on a drama but if she doesn’t get interesting scripts , i do understand her . She suffered a lot ,even when she did her last drama, with all the Knetizens talking about PS , botox,… When i watch one of her videos i see a Yoon Eun Hye who isn’t in her 20 ‘s anymore but stills a pretty, charming, elegant…lady . She was my first korean actress crush , and even if i do like some other actresses she will be forever special to me .

      • @cahill, I am a big fan of her as I too understand her…. I find her a easily mistaken communicator with PDs…she is a very sincerely person but not as great with playing the industry games. I can see she is very happy doing her own thing and being surrounded by her very trusted female assistants.

I love her soul…but she has been bullied badly in the industry…remember the eye injury from years ago that almost blind her? And all the cyber abuse. I like her to be happy…that is my best wishes for her.

      • @HL ;i’m not the kind of person who is resentful , but in the case of YEH i’m still angry with K entertainment et Knetizens who treated her so bad . I think that it would have been diferent if “her scandal ” happened today . It’s sad because she never had the chance to work with the greatest writers, directors as Song Hye Kyo, Gong Hyo Jin, … I don’t know if you have seen the photo she posted in her community ( the one with the footprints in the snow) she wrote that she had a heavy heart to wish us an Happy year sooner . I may not understand google translator, but i think that she was refering to LSK ‘s suicide ! If it’s that, it was the most beautiful post to discribe a soul who left us , better than any words or any song .

      • @Cahill, I saw that post with google translate…I wish I can read Korean…I bet it is a even more beautiful post read in Korean…

  4. It would be nice for Roh Jeong-eui, because she is not yet an A-lister and leading lady. But, it is hard not to see her as that little girl in Cheer Up, Mr. Kim!

    • I could be wrong but yes, her not being an A-lister yet could work in her favor in this case because I think they’re looking for fresh faces/rookies/rising stars rather than established stars for the lead roles

  5. If they cast Roh Jeong-Eui, I hope they ask her to put some weight because for now, she doesn’t look good at all. Yoon Eun-Hye always had a healthy image.

Is Shin Ye-Eun not tired to play highschool student?

Kim Hwan-Hee would be a nice candidate for me. She was really good in When the Weather is Fine and Here’s My Plan.

  6. I thought I read somewhere that they gonna do all new casting for it.

SYE is actually too mature for high schooler, it’s evident in her last school drama. GYJ, although a yr older but she looks more like a high schooler. The production would be lucky if they got her, she will help w/ investors. Her name is attached to the biggest dramas in recent years, and she is constantly at the top of celeb popular ranking, & will actually help w/ investors. Judging by her film projects, this is not her type of subject matter, but who knows money talk. The other girl, I don’t know anything about.

I think its about time a remake is made for this generation.

  7. Roh Jeung Eui REALLY impressed me in Our Beloved Summer, I would not be unhappy at all if she got this role. I also concur that if she does some ‘method acting’ weight gain would be helpful.

  8. Among these choices, it’s between Roh Jeong Eui and Shin Ye Eun for me, they’re very pretty but not super model-gorgeous so their beauties can still be toned down to fit Chaekyung role, plus I can easily imagine them being the bubbly girl. Go Youn Jung is a very good actress but her beauty fits “gorgeous girl” roles more, like Min Hyo Rin, the second female lead in Goong

  9. I’ve always had difficulty finding someone to fill in for ChaeKyung since this whole talk has started years ago…. Until I saw GYJ in Alchemy of Souls… to me, she had the natural pluckiness, charm, and even sadness that YEH portrayed in the original. My only issue is the age… she is way older than YEH was when she took on the role.

But whoever takes on the role will have a real difficulty fulfilling the spot. They’ll be compared more than ever. I always thought that real rookies should be the ones taking on the remake… whether they get praised or flanked, they will get their name out… Even just news of a remake are making waves already…we’ll known celebs may only get flanked instead of recognition. Why risk it?

  10. @HL i watch her YT Vlog also .

      • @Lina , Dream on ,Dream on until your dreams come true, as me and Aerosmith , i prefer the version of Patrick Neil Harris and Matthew Morrison in Glee . Great Song ! So i’m going to dream on YEH comeback!

  11. The 1st photo reminds me of a Yoon Eun Hye ‘s photoshoot in 2010 (Vogue ?) She was in pink but was 1000 x more charismatic . YEH has nailed always her photoshoots .

    • YEH really was the OG cute bubbly girl in kdramas! she really had that vibe down pat and none has ever come close to her ever since (in my opinion). really miss her but i’m glad she still makes content for us 🥺

    • Believe me, the remake need to cast a young actress. Chae kyung is a high school student. SYE could pass for a college student. Btw I’m not familiar with another 2. It’s a pity to whoever that play the role. We can’t help but compare. If go wrong,it could become an annoying crown princess rather than cute.
