So……uhm…… it’s totally fine thirsting after Kim Soo Hyun now that he is 36 years old. Right? Right! I mean, this boy-man-hottie has been gracing us with his K-ent presence for close to 20 years now and it’s really that he rose meteorically at the early part of his career that he gets saddled with the boyish image. That, and he rocked his seminal teen roles in Giant, Will it Snow for Christmas, and Dream High. The obliterated box offices and drama ratings playing adults with his boyish sweetness and we viewers were caught in a quagmire. He’s gorgeous but also on the young side, ottoke?!? Today with his role in Queen of Tears it feels like being a Kim Soo Hyun for the long haul was waiting for this role, this moment, this synergy. Baek Hyun Woo has the dorkiness of Song Sam Dong and Baek Seung Chan, but the commanding presence/intelligence/success of Lee Hwon and Do Min Joon, and the emotional awareness of Moon Gang Tae. Anyhoo, the frustrated/smexy Kim Soo Hyun is on viewers mind this week at his bike throwing scene at the end of episode 4 of Queen of Tears is on the hot search charts and generating a lot of chatter. For what was a 2 second gesture and goodness this is what acting god level true stars can do.

I think he can act, and very naturally not just having a good visual. But I wonder why he waited so long before this drama? I wonder why he didn't capitalize on his early 30s which I think is when we are most good looking to do more projects. This drama is a good transition to mature roles as you can see he has aged a bit, and as a husband at that. But I wish he could have graced us sooner when he was so much more handsome without resorting to a bit of fillers now. Just my two cents. But I stan him. He really has star quality, charisma. And his acting has a way of impacting you. That's a true star to me, not all high visual stars can do.
He's at a position where he does not need to act every year to maintain his status so he can be very picky with his projects. Most celebs just want to CF bc it's where the money is. Though I do think he has a love for acting and a natural talent to boot. The man has an eye for picking good scripts. Maybe nothing caught his eye in the last few years.
People forget that celebs like to live to normal life too. I'm glad to see that he was able to live his best life off screen. Few can maintain the starpower and this actor is one of the few lucky ones.
KSH has always been picky with his projects even when he was younger. He’s not gonna just do dramas for the sake of maximizing his 30’s or something along those lines. He said that the reason he did not pick anything for 3 years is because he was looking for one that spoke to him and a character he can portray in a way that’s challenging and charming. It says something that from 2011 till 2024, he did just 6 dramas and most of them were nominated in the best drama category at the Baeksangs. He chooses quality over quantity and it shows.
No doubt we all want him to do more, but I’m also okay with the limited number if they are always as good as they are!
his talent is undeniable, I'm impressed by his range (3 Park Jieun dramas but his characters/performances in all of them are so completely distinct from each other) and the fact that he never had a bad performance even as a rookie actor back in Giant/WISFC days.
But he's been picky with dramas for a long time - after YFAS in 2013 he's only done four dramas, QoT being the latest. But if this enables quality control, I'm fine with it too, he always delivers.
@Royal We 💯
As a rule, I generally dislike actors working with the same writer again and again since they tend to recycle the same characters. But it’s completely not the case for KSH and PJE. The characters, the stories, genres are all so drastically different with the added benefit of knowing the drama will be amazing.
It does look like he’s back to working full time now. He’s positively considering a new drama already even while his current ones still airing. We don’t have much info yet but at least he’s looking at scripts. Hopefully it’s another great project!
His acting is so always so impactful no matter what character he plays. As for aging, everyone ages. He has done it so gracefully and at 36, with as little work as he has done, he is easily at the top of his gen and has been for the past decade. Not an easy thing to maintain in this industry.
Tbh, I wish he did more dramas too. But I have come to accept that he is choosy and the more successful he becomes, which seems to be every project he lays hands on, the more choosier he gets. 3 out of his last 5 dramas are with the same writer. So he only works with people he trusts and this writer is definitely that + vice versa since 3/5 of her last dramas are also with him. Would love to see him in movies more if anything. It will fill the void of him being so choosy on drama scripts.
You are do right. KSH is super hot in that scene. No doubt he has matured but still super duper hot sexy and good looking. Swooning... I can watch that drunken scene in ep 1 over n over again..n now this
That detail was fineee. In extreme worry, you tend to get angry and irritated as well. Him throwing the bike was very much according to the situation.
We are all so thirsty. The number of YouTube shorts, twitter post and blog posts on this 2 second scene is astounding and hilarious. But as Hae In said, he’s a sexy dynamite LOL. KSH is older than me, so I never felt guilty swooning over him even during his DH days, but I also fee like he’s grown in front of me? He’s just done so so well for himself and I’m genuinely so proud of him. Especially after he opened up about his struggles coping with the fame when he was in his 20’s, I’m now even more invested in his career and what else he can achieve from here on out.
lol @the bike throw causing more thirst than him actually being shirtless in the previous episode but that's what you get when you have an attractive actor who's also (very!) talented at acting, in a role like that.
That scene was so well directed and well acted by both leads, can't wait for tomorrow's ep.
Due to popular demand, TvN actually released a 10 minute video with the bike slamming on repeat for 5 mins, so funny.
HAHAHAHA tvN knows their audience 🤣
Off to look for this video while I wait for the next episode then. At least I’m not abusing the replay button 🤪
I mean he's in suit, drenched and looking super sexy... It's a normal reaction :p
Omg, you too Koala?! 😂😂
He is so smexy omg. The strength with which he shoved that bike to the ground in anger. It was so HOT! More angry HW/KSH please and thank you!
This is classic example of how a good actor thinks about the scene and how to convey those emotions.
That 2 seconds of anger, worry and frustration showed without 1 single word that even if outwardly he kept saying he wanted her dead. despise her and all the dramatic my life will be better without her and the family- - he threw the bike because he was worried and cared and boy like a man like a husband
No words but it’s clear as day.
Another scene was also underrated - when the lights came on and she finally sheds her pretences, he turns around and as he hear the words and sees her muddy shoes and knew, he was breathing a little more heavily - no words too, but you know what he is hearing and seeing hit him hard at the moment before he went in for the hug.
Body language, breathing - not by chance, acting by intention and thought. Making a scene work beyond the script that’s the classy part about KSH.
Totally agree. He thinks a lot about each scene, how his character feels, how they’d react and what’s the most appropriate expressions. His acting looks effortless because he puts so much effort in. Another scene was the ep 1 outburst regarding Hyunwoo going to the US for an MBA and trying for a child. It was really well acted, but KSH revealed in tvN’s commentary video that he discussed a lot with the PD on how much anger to show vs how much to hold back. He didn’t want to come across as too furious since we didn’t know much about the characters at that point, but wanted to convey just how upset Hyunwoo was. Not matter how talented, it still takes a lot of commitment for an actor to be this good.
That bicycle throwing scene was no doubt super hot but I also want to give a shout out to how he can effortlessly channel that innocent awkward vibe despite being in his mid 30s. I’m talking about the flash back scene where Hae In visits Yongdu-ri for the first time when they were dating. The way he awkwardly tells her to spend the night because 9:00 pm is almost midnight and how he runs back into the house all giddy was so sweet and innocent. Yes, I do believe they just cuddled and slept that night.
You are do right. KSH is super hot in that scene. No doubt he has matured but still super duper hot sexy and good looking. Swooning... I can watch that drunken scene in ep 1 over n over again..n now this
This is going to sound so dumb, but what surgeries/fillers has ksh undergone?
I find it difficult to identify such things😂
The man know his art. So many promising good actor fell for picking bad dramas. They then only get offers of pluffy main characters. Vicious circle.
