Zhang Wan Yi the Final Pick for Male Lead in Period C-drama The Brocaded Tale of the Girl Si Opposite Jing Tian with Filming to Start Next Month May 2024

Ooooohhhhh I really like this! In one month we now have had three actors in talks for the period C-drama The Brocaded Tale of the Girl Si and the last and final is definitely my fave of the three. First there was Alan Fang, a great choice but not guaranteed since he’s not a big enough name. Then came Chen Zhe Yuan who has buzz but is coming off a less than stellar last drama ratings and some bad publicity with billing fights. Reportedly the production was nervous about that and ended up passing on him but has now secured Zhang Wan Yi as the male lead. He’s confirmed and will star opposite Jing Tian with the drama ready to start filming in Hendian next month in May 2024. These two together are going to bring the chemistry and intensity for sure!

Zhang Wan Yi the Final Pick for Male Lead in Period C-drama The Brocaded Tale of the Girl Si Opposite Jing Tian with Filming to Start Next Month May 2024 — 31 Comments

  1. Nooooo! They went from Alen Fang the most handsome one to Chen Zhe Yuan who is passable to this guy Zhang Wan Yi the ugliest one. Urghhh

  2. I was really disappointed when Alan Fang was replaced with Chen Zhe Yuan for a multitude of reasons. It’s really unfortunate that Alan Fang is not getting more attention. I’m really glad they decided to go with Zhang Wan Yi instead of Chen Zhe Yuan. Jing Tian and Zhang Wan Yi are definitely more visually compatible and are both talented.

  3. Chen Zhe Yuan’s team really tried hard to get him this role after the mess they created with the last drama with Dilraba.. Now they loss this too.

I rather Alan Fang of them three. But Chen Zhe Yuan’s team really need to reflect on their actions. They have put Chen Zhe Yuan in a bad place now.

    • I wonder if there’s something in CZY’s team (e.g., backing or connection to the power etc.) that made them so bold, not down to earth.

      • I also wondered this! If he had some strong backers that makes them feel they are in a position of power to negotiate with bigger stars…

  4. What a shame for CZY ~ His team really screwed it up for him.. he was also rumored to have been in a casting for a drama with Wang Ziqi but there’s a different actor attached to it now. That’s about 3 dramas falling through. It’s not looking good. How in the world is this gonna be fixed??

  5. CZY should get himself a more professional management team who has a firmer grasp of reality. He’s at best passable looking and can’t do romance without coming across as greasy and yet they had the audacity to fight for billing with Dilireba. His prospects are not looking good unless he has powerful backers.

  6. I don’t have a problem with Zhang Wanyi, but I do wonder what kind of shitty agen does Allen Fang have. The guy is very handsome, can definitely act and as far as I know doesn’t have any scandals or bad attitude *or rumors of bad attitude) like Chen Zhe Yuan. After A Journey to love I thought his time had come, but it doesn’t really seem that way. Too bad!

    • I like AF too but I noticed that despite having good looks and talent, he doesn’t have what it takes to carry a drama..YET. He lacks star power and commercial value. Hope he will get a breakthrough soon.

    • He is rumored for an upcoming lead role in a costume drama with Lin Yun called 怎敌她千娇百媚. Though it might be smaller budget than Si Jin, at leat he’s getting a lead role! And yeah he doesn’t seem to have any backings but A Journey to Love definitely helped him in his career imo.

    • Not sure about that. C-ent is awash with young actors with new ones coming up all the time. There’s nothing special about CZY that’d guarantee his longevity in C-ent unless he has a rich and powerful family/connections.

  7. I don’t dislike ZWY. He’s the only ML in Lost You Forever of whom I had positive impression while watching the drama. IMO, he’s better at modern genres but not a good fit for historical bcos of his short stature. LOL no offense again to fans reminding them I’m a visual freak when it comes to Chinese costume dramas.

If Alan Fang were the ML, I definitely would check it out. Too bad! C dramas have been all misses to me for a long while.

    • chinese men aren’t generally tall though. zwy can fit historical (not-idol). most older chinese historical dramas don’t have good-looking men…

  8. Things are looking grim for Chen Zhenyuan imo. Even his co-star Ju Jingyi managed to get out of the SF4 diaster flop with the success of In Blossom (although she did get panned for her acting). And she and her team seem to follow the billing contract for Qian Xiang. This makes his image even worse if the recent billing dispute with Dilraba is true. Hope his team reflects and stop trying to fight for billing; just accept second billing and wait for his next drama to be successful before even considering about getting first or equal billed. But I’m glad he got replaced. Zhang Wanyi is definitely a better and more charismatic actor, and his mature image makes him better suited to be paired with Jing Tian.

  9. Out of those three Alan Fang is my favorite. He is handsome and a great actor and singer. He deserves a lot more recognition than he gets.

  10. I’m looking forward to this one! I loved Jing Tian in Wonderland of love and I think she fits costume dramas well. The ML is a new actor for me, but I’ll keep an open mind. So this drama and cast is pretty much confirmed?
