First Official Poster of Xiao Zhan in Period C-drama Zang Hai Zhuan

The first substantive official poster is out for revenge period C-drama Zang Hai Zhuan starring Xiao Zhan and it’s wonderful. He’s featured front and center looking absolutely intense and riveting, whatever he’s plotting for his long payback is going to be exciting to watch with hopefully with a satisfying payoff. This is a male lead centric drama so it’s not surprising female lead Zhang Jing Yi is not shown (yet) but if the drama is a hit both leads will definitely enjoy the boost.

    • Oh look, a new name here mentioning WYB on XZ’s articles just after I mentioned previously that only WYB fans keep mentioning XZ in WYB’s articles so far. Man, looks like C-ent fans/company workers are starting to spread C-ent fandom tactics to this blog.

      • This is how we all should reply to these people trying to start a fanwar from now on. Don’t bash any actor or actress in order to retaliate, just call out these people’s troll behavior and tell them that we see through their attempt to start a fanwar lol

    • I was concerned he’d get stuck in a rut doing bland teacher love idol dramas until he was too old and then be forgotten.

      • Ace Troop, The Youth Memories, and Sunshine By My Side aren’t bland teacher love idol dramas – those fall under military, period and urban genres. The Youth Memories which is on its 31st re-run on tv is back again on CCTV-1. Please check your ignorance before stepping on him. Just because you only watch idol dramas doesn’t mean he doesn’t have other works outside of the idol genre. Also, he has wuxia Legend of Condor Heroes movie with Tsui Hark coming out this summer.

      • How though?

He has done and is doing non-idol projects for a while now. Started with Ace Troops and then Sunshine by my Side, Youth Memories, Legend of the Condor Heroes then this.

They are all different genres and none of them have anything to do with love idol dramas. His next movie is a war drama. What a strange statement.

      • Ace Troops, Where Dreams Begin, Sunshine By My Side are not idol dramas. I think you have him confused with your idols. Stop being jealous and bitter. lol

      • Too “concerned” no?

Also, ageist. Tch. XZ only started acting in 2016, so that’s not even 10 years in the acting business but see, his acting portfolio (web, tv, theatre, film) is nothing to scoff at, considering his educational background is not in the performance arts. He’s not a nepo kid either so the climb is slow and steady. I watched most of his works and I see great improvements. I really look forward to his new works.

He is *the* top traffic superstar right now, and his face is plastered across billboards (digital, printed even hand-painted) far beyond China. Who could forget? 🙂

I have been reading the comments section here for the past few years but was not motivated to sign up and leave words until today (18.5.2024). Let us see if I will regret this flight of fancy on a lazy Saturday afternoon LOL.

    • I like her too cos her drama, Lighter & Princess, was one of very rare C dramas I got to finish without skipping one scene. I was relieved when they officially announced her casting as the FL. LOL. XZ had bad luck with most of his FLs.

  1. Woah….I like this. I hope XZ goes on to do more edgier roles. Somehow exquisite delicate faces can be even more powerful than manlier masculine faces because it’s so unexpected.

    • Not sure where you’re seeing exquisite delicate face here?

Xiao Zhan is classically handsome and those faces will always be more powerful.

  2. One of the best solo posters I’ve seen in a whileeee. It’s the type I’d order and stick on a wall if I were still at the age of doing so. I’m a relatively new Xiao Zhan fan and still catching up with his older stuff. The dark intensity here looks better than everything I have seen from his past filmography.

On the other hand I don’t know anything at all about Zhang Jing Yi. I hope to see her soon ideally with a nice poster too. But more I want the trailer.

  3. This poster went viral, it was absolutely insane on the day of the conference. Not to mention it’s just a poster, not even a trailer and it exploded.

He looks fantastic here not because he is hot, though he is, but because the poster and the look in his eyes convey exactly what they should. Mastermind, coldness, determination. So good. I am desperately hoping for a trailer at the end of the month once they finish filming. This drama took five months to film and with Zheng Xiaolong helming it, I am so excited. Youku seems very invested too.

  4. There are no “both leads” in this drama.

There is only one lead and you can see him in this poster. Everyone else is a supporting character and has minor roles. This is not a romance drama, it’s a side thing while a much bigger thing is happening. I am so tired of this drama being reduced to romance that is a small side plot.

  5. THIS, is the ONLY one C drama I’m looking forward to. I kept checking new C dramas this year but kept being disappointed again and over again. The most recent one was Will Love in Spring that all started feeling fresh in the plot but I eventually dropped it cos the drama painted funeral makeup professional too rosy to be realistic, which was one of the major weakness in modern C dramas, beautifying everything.

XZ is so versatile that he has been taking different roles across different genres. He is talented. What he needs is good directors with good scripts and he has no problem to nail any roles. ZHZ is the only one since The Untamed that I feel very positive with no qualms about the whole production package to present an excellent product. The Youth Memories was also surprisingly good but unfortunately and unavoidably the post-Republican drama had state propaganda elements in the storylines. I hope there aren’t many parts in ZHZ to be cut off because of censorship.

Director Zheng Xiaolong is genuinely a critically acclaimed film maker. His numerous works including Empresses in the Palace and Red Sorghum were highly praised with high ratings. To be able to work with such a renowned director in the filming industry, XZ is once again recognized for his acting caliber. ZXL isn’t someone to pick any random idol liuliangs to work with. LOL.

  6. Did someone say XZ is in a Tsui Hark movie!!!!!!!! TH is a legend. XZ making very good choices. I would love him to see him in a remake of the HK classic A Chinese Ghost story.

    • It should be in theaters this summer, probably July. Worldwide release. Tsui Hark has been working on this one for years. He absolutely is a world icon. Can’t wait.

  7. I love the poster. It conveys emotions unlike the other Cdrama posters I’ve seen in this site. I like XZ portraying gray characters (like Wei Wuxian) more. He’s a good actor and brings life to his characters.

  8. Fangirls sure are biased. Xiao Zhan and Yang Yang are both liuliang actors but everyone shits on Yang Yang.

Especially when XZ came from boyband idol. Yang Yang is and has always been an actor.

Everyone is suddenly an expert in judging acting skills lol. I don’t see how XZ is all that better in acting than YY.

And besides, YY looks better than XZ. Pressed biased fangirls all over this site lol

    • Keep crying.

Yang Yang stans have been pressed about Xiao Zhan’s success from the start and you are a perfect example. Xiao Zhan became famous due to his acting, it’s not his problem that Yang Yang has been called a bad actor since the start of his career. Xiao Zhan is busy working with the likes of Tsui Hark, Zheng Xiaolong and Kong Sheng.

Yang Yang just got a new drama. Support your fave more and look less at others and maybe you will finally give him the motivation to take a few acting classes so he won’t be crucified once again when that drama airs.

    • I think what you meant to say XZ is a triple threat. Not only XZ is a talented actor, but also a great singer with very handsome looks too. A throwback to the great Hong Kong actors who can act and sing. 🤭

      • For those who are curious about his singing ability, you can check out the first season of Our Songs where he is paired with the great Na Ying (and Angela Zhang for a few eps).

      • Our Songs turned me into his fan before even knowing he also acted. I’m a fan of singer XZ first and then actor XZ much later.

      • @Somebody, I likes Xiao Zhan before Our Song but I became big fan of my little singer Zhou Shen in Our Song. That was a very good show, I watched it for Xiao Zhan and got to know others.

      • @Somebody Yes, XZ is also known for being a talented singer too. Even now he will still gain new fans from Our Songs every time his new drama is released and drama viewers realize that he can sing too.

    • @Tsk, both XZ and YY are liuliang but one has been working really hard to make himself a serious actor successfully while the other one still struggles to deliver on screen and his progress has stagnated for years. That’s the huge difference that C-ent and fan circles have all recognized. No bash! It’s the reality. YY has a long way to go unless miracles happen to make him a quantum leap in the acting department.

    • Of course people can judge acting skills, we’re all viewers after all. As an actor, you’re supposed to make the audience believe you that character and move them. So why can’t these people judge him?

YY is fine in male characters that are perfect in every way, but he cannot for the life of him play a character that has any flaws or big personalities, then he comes across very oily or over the top. I was a fan of his watching Love O2O, then dropped him like a hot potato after Martial Universe. I liked him in You Are My Glory, but could not stand him in Fireworks of My Heart.

It honestly sounds like you’re the actual pressed fangirl over here trying to defend your fave rather than hoping he improves. XZ is not oscar worthy either. There are better actors in his age group than him. But I support these other commenters that he is definitely miles better than YY.

    • Yes, indeed!

Welcome to the wide fan club of XZ! He’s got fans of ALL age groups from teens to seniors loving him dearly. His talent, charisma, and very humble but determined disposition attract a huge following of fans both domestically and internationally. I can’t rave enough about my fave. I’m pretty sure there’re no C celebs who have equal popularity and influence both inside and outside China.

  9. All the comments above just prove that this site is infested by a bunch of ultra vocal Xiao Zhan fangirls.

No wonder the comments are always skewed a certain way especially when it involves other actors especially liuliang lmao

    • Do you only click into posts about Xiao Zhan here? I have read posts on other Chinese celebrities like Zhao Lusi and Yang Zi, and their fans are also vocal in the respective posts about their fave. It’s natural for fans to congregate at news related to their fave, no?

Or you just don’t like to see positive comments in posts related to Xiao Zhan?

    • XZ does have a huge following of fans including me. Otherwise, do you think he as a top liuliang in C-ent is a joke and a lie? All the international luxurious brand names he endorses are extremely happy working with him for a reason. LOL. Why seeing him being loved by so many fans a surprise to you? It should be expected we are rabid about him unless this site is intentionally malicious to XZ fans and censor our comments. LOL

    • This is literally a post about Xiao Zhan.

And he isn’t a global brand ambassador to many luxury brands because they lost their marbles. It is because he has legions of fans outside of China.

Sorry that stresses you out but that is a you problem that you should really work on.
