The 2024 Cannes Film Festival kicked off this week and has many more days left of movie screenings and accompanying red carpet star walks. The HK-director Peter Chan helmed period murder mystery She’s Got No Name starring Zhang Zi Yi is on deck in the coming days and the female lead will definitely be there. Earlier it was stated that supporting female leads Zhao Li Ying and Yang Mi will also walk Cannes but this weekend Zhao Li Ying’s camp is saying she will not attend. Reportedly she’s very upset at the production for generating the story that she and Yang Mi were fighting over billing and using it to create buzz for the movie. She feels used and doesn’t want to play this game so she’s noping out of Cannes. Not sure if Yang Mi will attend, she may to brush off the flop that was her hotpot movie or she may also skip to avoid any potential negative scrutiny.

Why do I have a feeling that , c ent enjoy this fan wars both the production team and c neitzen, I get it helps bring up publicity and such, but this just decrease the value of their production in general to me.

There was nothing wrong with ZLY’s eye at all, but she lied that it was injured. Some photographers caught the eye she was hiding and nothing was wrong with it. She just wanted to hide half of her face so she won’t get compared with YM. After that party, YM didn’t do dirty marketing about ZLY’s cowardice. ZLY’s marketing on the other hand, shamelessly put out articles saying
“ZLY has better skin than YM”
“ZLY looks more youthful”
“YM looks at ZLY with a jealous expression”
Those articles are still out there, so don’t call me liar.
During that party, I believe YM gave ZLY a strong gaze bc she saw how ZLY shamelessly market about her and Dilraba. The hosts also put them together on purpose bc they know, they saw what they saw. ZLY hid her face with hair the whole time, and didn’t have any courage to face YM and Dilraba.
The issue about ZLY making rude remark about YM, ZLY never made any proper apology but it should’ve diffused between them personally bc she got really close with Hawick Lau during “Wife Secret” and she told Hawick she felt uneasy seeing YM visiting on set because of what netz are saying about them. Hawick already comforted her that he and YM don’t even care or know what netz are saying and she felt relieved. YM and ZLY were still following each other that time. ZLY once said she likes to marry a husband like Hawick. YM really liked the wedding dress ZLY wore for that drama, so she also wore it in a photoshoot, but ZLY hated it and never bother to go like the photos to rekindle the relationship. Instead, her fans made a fuss and a comparison war happened. YM gave ZLY multiple chances to made up, but each time, ZLY chose to harbor bad intentions. When YM was rumored to have invited many well known actresses to collaborate on Fly Dandelions, ZLY was invited but rumored to make another snarky remark “YM wants to be the FL all the time”. YM and ZLY also worked together in Dream of the Red Chamber before. There was a rumor that ZLY offended the director so he cut her scenes that’s why she only appeared a few seconds. AvenueX worked behind the set in that drama. AvenueX likes ZLY, but hates YM, she claimed to witness the production taking advantage of and bullying an un-wellknown actress so I don’t know if she was trying to hint that YM was the bully and ZLY was the one being bullied. But AvenueX said she won’t tell anyone the names because she doesn’t want to get sued for spreading fake rumors. So I don’t trust AvenueX at all, just putting it out there for those of you brainlessly trusting AvenueX. I think AvenueX spread lies but secretly with her close patreons, but she doesn’t dare to do it publicly, an attitude that’s like Yu Zheng.
YM was rumored to work in this film first, so YM doesn’t have control over ZLY wanting to join in to create buzz. When ZLY joined the film, she already knew YM would be in the same film. She knew what she signed up for. ZLY can run away once or twice, but she can’t run away forever. If she continues to refuse participating in any activities bc YM will show up every time, it won’t take long for us to see this crew ridiculing how Zhang Yimou’s crew also ridiculed her. Why bother fighting so hard for the role in the first place? To fight for this role, YM did no marketing at all but ZLY marketed like crazy saying
“YM got dropped out by the director”
“YM got stuck with idol stuff, ZLY won serious stuff”
“YM only got the smaller role bc ZLY can act better”
The crew now believes ZLY is the one doing all those marketing, even with ones saying
“ZLY and YM stole the limelight, ZZY is jealous”
So, if ZLY is expecting the crew to believe they marketed like that back on themselves, I wonder if they will be angry enough to kick her out.

Some working mother rather relax and spent time with their child/families, they make enough $ and are expose enough. Why would she have to use any excuse to not attend. Especially here, the attention should be on the leading lady anyways. If I were her, I wouldn’t go either.

lol I wouldn’t either if I had money to pay for a babysitter to work and raise a child with money. We don’t get that chance here. Daycare is scary pricy.
@neen, do you have kids? The scary part about daycare is not price but how they take care of your kids. LOL. If I had had money to support the family without working, I’d have taken care of my own kids myself. Even making way more money now by being a working mom all my life, there’s something I can’t make up for with money. Kids are the happiest with their own moms.
@Somebody, I sure do, I am fortunate to work and raise a child, I could do more though. Can’t imagine a mother who can’t work and just rely on one income from the husband. We live in world where prices just keep rising while income doesn’t. If you can afford daycare, I think you are doing pretty good and your kids get the opportunity to grow with other kids. I think its a win win situation. As a parent, obviously you don’t trust your kids with anyone but that doesn’t mean you are wrong if you want to work hard and live comfortably with your child. I also know people who work in daycare, never known any issues with it except of the price. Everyone has their own way of being a parent, its not our business to be deciding what anyone does really, not even if they are a celebrity. Unless they harm their children, that’s a different story.

Why is it such a big deal to attend Cannes? Her film isn’t nominated in competition, not even in less prestigious categories such as out of competition or midnight screening etc. I don’t understand all the fuss and buzz around.
It’s a big deal even if She’s Got No Name will only have a Gala screening as it will be held at the world’s most prestigious film gathering, as well as its most widely publicized cultural event – the 77th Cannes Film Festival. This year marks an inspirational return of Chinese language movies to the international screen after the pandemic. I love Zhao Liying!
She probably could not get any sponsors for the attendance. It is not cheap especially for the glamorous fashion worn on the red carpet. Without a brand name dress and expensive jewelry, she knows she will be a laughing stock forever in C-ent history. No one will miss her in Cannes!
