Has there been any other drama that continues to generate so much buzz even after airing? It’s incredible that even two months after the show has ended, both Hye Yoon and Woo Seok’s airport videos are racking up tens of thousands of views, people continue to comment on the Salon Drip video like it’s a daily group chat, and derivative works like the scriptbook and the OST set are charting extremely well.
I’ve never really seen another drama that has that kind of effect where the fandom resonates with a lot of activities that we see in idol culture, whether it’s buying merch, voting for the actors, or even supporting both the main and the side casts in fanmeetings. Of course it’s extremely well-deserved given how long most of the actors’ careers have spanned (Hye Yoon already had a breakout hit but this further propelled her into stardom, Wooseok’s long overdue leading male role, Geon Hee getting lots of love calls on radio and advertisements, and even Seung Hyub promoting like crazy with N. Flying).
There are some rumours as well about Hye Yoon possibly being an ambassador for Gucci given how they’ve sponsored past photoshoots and her airport calls, and the possibility of showing up in Milan (along with Prada likely signing a deal with Woo Seok as well). I hope both of them continue to do well, and look forward to their next projects.

@JB That’s what I’m seeing, seems like majority of Lovely Runner stans are new KDrama watchers. They think this kind of popularity for a drama and its cast never happened before. Nothing wrong with being a new KDrama watcher, it’s just something I’ve observed. I think many of them are also KPop fans who only started watching LR because the story of a fangirl ending up with her fave resonates with them. Again, I’m not saying that in a negative way or to criticize them, just something I’ve noticed lol

Even for Goong ! but yeah, i do still remember Coffee Prince period , and back then social medias weren’t so present in daily life ( no Insta, X, Tik Tok,…to relay the craze as it does now ! YouTube was only 2 years ! So we can say that it was phenomenal !

@cahill, it’s odd that I like Goong a lot but not so much of Coffee Prince even though EHY was the FL of both dramas and both were very popular. Even I watched them around 2013-2014, I still think these two dramas were very unique. I do think many K dramas in melo and romcom genres back then were more creative with interesting plots than most of the dramas in the same genres nowadays. That’s the reason why I became a Kdrama fan thanks to K romance but not a fan of those genres anymore.
Same here! I really loved Goong but not Coffee Prince I really could not get into it. Goong was the drama that introduced me to kdrama

I’m the opposite. I LOVE Coffee Prince! It still holds up for me to this day. Goong is so dated and a tad sexist to me. My controversial opinion is that I wouldn’t mind seeing a remake 🙈

We should get to appreciate more healthy and natural beauty like KHY in the entertainment industry. TBH, I have PS fatigue seeing most Asian celebs looking very similar with artificial high nose bridges and plump lips etc. They look like mass manufactured from the same PS lab. LMAO. And when they got older, it seemed all the adverse side effects of PS were gradually emerging that couldn’t be unseen through camera.
Let drama fans appreciate what their genes have given these celebs to look like and let their acting, temperament, and manner speak for themselves to attract fans.

Talking about advanced tech, there is AI fear and anxiety going on in the US, specifically within govt regulators. There is also an anti-tech trend in some part of academia. Although the US has been leading in AI tech and my profession is among the sectors adopting AI aggressively, I’m not that enthusiastic about the trend. I hope AI won’t be in full bloom until I retire, which is very unlikely given the speedy trend, particularly after Nvidia CEO, Jensen Huang’s keynote address in 2024 Computex highlighting AI. Nvidia is now a forerunner in AI and everyone in Wall Street dumps money in the AI sector. One can see the trend with where money goes. I’m too old to pick up new skills for AI while a lot of rookies came out of college fresh with programming skills like python & R etc. popular for AI. I’ll leave that for newer generation to deal with. LOL.
@HL , i’m old and not a fan of AI . Young generation will deal with that but i fear for a generation who would be able to do anything with technology but unable to use their cell’s brain to think by themselves . A kind of new slavery . When i see around me, little ones are able to use smartphones, playing video games, using social medias…but unable to be empathic, to argue about philosophical or metaphysics subjects … but perhaps i’m too septic ! I see a dichotomy between human intelligence and AI .
I don’t know why but suddenly i think of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and H.G Well’s The Time Machine An invention !

For me, I’m not against plastic surgery, but my problem is that most celebs nowadays seem to be following a certain template when they go under the knife. Not to sound like a boomer, but just look at the older generation of actors and actresses. Many of them did get something done, but mostly just subtle enhancements. And they also didn’t go for one look, so while most of them are conventionally beautiful, they also still look different from each other (for example, Kim Tae Hee looks different from Song Hye Kyo and Song Hye Kyo looks different from Jun Ji Hyun, Jun Ji Hyun looks different from Ha Ji Won… You get the idea).
Also, yes, plastic surgery existed back then already but surgeons seem to take facial harmony into consideration back then. So the end result is still pleasing to the eyes and natural-looking. In fact, there are many actresses from the 00s I thought were natural until I saw their pre-surgery pics lol. Meanwhile now, so many celebs are getting noses that are too small for their faces or lips that are too big for their other features. Seems like they don’t take facial harmony and proportions into consideration nowadays, so we end up with so many actresses who are artificial-looking with uncanny valley vibes.
So to sum up my point, I’m not entirely against plastic surgery because let’s be honest, society, and especially the entertainment industry, is lookist, so I understand why celebs would want to look their best. I just wish they just use plastic surgery to enhance their look instead of getting after trendy features that don’t suit them

They all look the same…I agree PS existed since forever but now everybody wants those same features which kills any uniqueness people are born with. And it hurts my heart especially because people still consider Kim Hye Yoon, Kim Taeri, Kim Go Eun as not traditionally attractive. Like, are people blind. These women are gorgeous.
@Seorina, I honestly can’t tell if those beautiful actresses you mentioned had done any PS or not. To me, they have unique complexions. There are many techniques to enhance looks without knives, e.g., skin care and customized regimen. Healthy skin makes looks a lot different. It happened to my friend whose skin looked so much better and she looked totally beautiful after doing some skin care in Taiwan. I was stunned after she had her flawed skin taken care. LOL.
I had this thought and therefore made such a comment cos recently I just watched a drama with the OTP I like very much. I always thought the actress was very beautiful, totally my cup of tea. I read comments about her PS. But the PS done on her nose looked so artificial to me that was distracting with close-up shots. I don’t think she needed PS at all; she was a beautiful gal already before the said PS. She’s still great in acting regardless of how she looks though.
Agree with you, appropriate amount of plastic surgery is good, it improves the visual so much without taking out the unique identity the person have. Most korean actors and actress I have seen has improved so much just by adding nose bridge and double lid eye, they should just stick to those
natural beauties ARE appreciated tho, but only those who naturally have features that fit their beauty standards (song hye kyo, kim tae hee, son ye jin, etc., and in the younger gen, kim so hyun, suzy, go ara, etc.). the reason why kim hye yoon isn’t celebrated for her looks is that she doesn’t fit their beauty standards. i think the positive side of that is it would be easier for her to be known for her acting skills and be taken seriously as an actress than it would be for the actresses who are known for their beauty
I agree that the beautiful and handsome Korean actors and actresses facial harmony ruin due to PS. It is sad that they are convinced that they need PS when in fact their so called imperfections actual harmonize their whole look. This one young actress too, i suspect she had done something and i was really disappointed because she was one of the most beautiful actresses in my opinion yet nowadays she looks odd and unnatural. I applaud kim hye yoon, please stay away from those knife, you’re already beautiful the way you are!

Another similar talented actor for me who gets stuck in second and third leads is Lee Sang-yi. Luckily, he had a great breakout with ‘Bloodhounds’ recently which is getting a second season and is getting a lead role in a rom-com next too!
Talking about K romance, it’s amusing I’m eating my own words. I’m following Kim So Hyun’s new school romance drama that I usually hated most. LOL.
Serendipity’s Embrace has almost everything I’m not so much for by just looking at the synopsis. But I’m loving every bit of it so far and it’s just 2 eps into the series.
Kim So Hyun is cute. Chae Jong-hyeop is cute. Their chemistry is cute too. The first 2 eps are so cute that kept me smiling all the way throughout 2 eps.
I love the girl of KSH’s character. I love the ML (already fond of him in Castaway Diva) and his dorkiness. I love every moment of these two cuties together. LOL. If there’re dramas rooting on chemistry alone, this is one of them.
Like The Double opened my mind again and went on to explore more C costume dramas, I’ve been in the mood to explore more K romcom and school romance after Lovely Runner. And THIS! LOL. I believe RL is making similar impacts on many drama fans, perhaps open a new era for K romance again.

I’m not really that opposed to plastic surgery as long they don’t do it too much. I’m fan of several artist whom I know have different looks compared to their predebut days, and plastic surgery does improve the looks to some extent. But if you do it too much it does look burdensome

Completely irrelevant: such a short dress is not a comfortable travel look for me, not when you basically have to sit with your bare thighs on seats where thousands of people have sat before you. I mean ok, they occasionally clean the seats, but let me tell you, it is not after each time someone sits of them. Long story short, when traveling, wear pants (or a long skirt).
she’ll probably change into her actual plane/travel outfit once she’s inside the airport, this is just for airport fashion sponsorship. She gets money and nice pics (thank goodness her coordis improved her hairstyling, she looks great here) so it’s good for her.

Something I love about KHY ‘s face is that even though she has a sweet, natural look she also has strong bone structure which gives her face some character and a chameleon quality depending on how she is styled. It also means she can carry off slightly more dramatic looks. I really hope she doesn’t touch her face and stays natural.
