  2. I’m interested in the cast, but don’t have high hopes about drama, still wonder why they had so many issues with a changes of a cast, director and with rewriting the script.
Last Netflix thriller detective drama I saw was A Killer Paradox, had a high hopes and wasn’t satisfied, and I somehow feel this can be a similar case.
Anyway, cast is definitely good, so I’ll watch first episodes.

    • @Olesya1: I would usually be wary too with all the production issues but I read a Naver article posted on another page and, apparently, the previous issues were due to a difficult writer and an ineffective production company but the drama has now been overhauled and rewritten with a new producer (Cho Moon-joo) and director(Lee Jung-hyo) taking charge and and casting the huge acting upgrade of JDY and KGE.

Cho Moon-joo has also produced successful works like Little Women and Vincenzo recently and was instrumental in getting Netflix onboard once he cast JDY and KGE.

Excerpt from the article using Google Translate:
“…Initially, director Lee Eung-bok participated as the director and cast Song Hye-kyo and Han So-hee, but had to withdraw for health reasons. Since then, director Shim Na-yeon has been selected as the director and tried to complete the story with Song Hye-kyo and Han So-hee again.

But these combinations stopped in the attempt. This is because the writer who used to be a film director is very stubborn. However, there was no arbitration and communication from the production company. Some settings and modifications and adaptations of scenes that do not fit the situation were discussed from the initial planning stage of the work. From director Lee Eung-bok to director Shim Na-yeon, the direction of revision was presented at the same part and the same point. In fact, it was pointed out that the laxness of setting up an assessment agency should be revised through legal advice. But the writer refused to accept it. Rather, director Shim Na-yeon and the two actresses organized and drove them into a way that violated their authority.

In the end, director Shim Na-yeon, Song Hye-kyo, and Han So-hee left at the “master of confession.” In the meantime, industry rumors surrounding the “master of confession” were terrible. Only strange rumors circulated, including actress power tripping and gender conflicts between female director and the writer. The actual problem was that the artist’s stubbornness and the production company’s inability to mediate. In this way, “The Master of Confession” seemed to be reduced to a work that stayed only in the planning stage.

Fortunately, however, producer Cho Moon-joo and director Lee Jung-hyo, who created a number of box office hits, have served as relief pitchers for “masters of confession.” Producer Cho Moon-joo and director Lee Jung-hyo first focused on correcting the harmonious, from the setting of problems that actresses are reluctant to do. The decision to completely revise the setting direction talked about by various directors and the two actors to suit the situation. And it recasts with such a revised script, starring Jeon Do-yeon and Kim Go-eun. A different cast is also underway.

The previous production company, which had no arbitration ability, will only raise its name, while producer Cho Moon-joo and director Lee Jung-hyo will actually take charge of the overall production. In addition to Jeon Do-yeon and Kim Go-eun. The log line of the work is plausible enough that several OTTs coveted…”

I am only disappointed that the second director, Shim Na Yeon, is no longer involved as I loved her directing in Beyond Evil. SNY, JDY and KGE! What a trifecta of powerful women that would have been!

      • Oh, I also read that article, and this is was a reason I started to have doubts in a quality of that drama. The way production company tried to force a writer to change the script, and how at the end they re-wrote it..
The fact that the producers interfered with the script I take in a slightly negative light, but maybe I’m wrong, and they really improved the script.
Anyway, the cast looks powerful, so I’ll try to watch this drama anyway.

      • @Olesya1: sorry I didn’t realise you had already read the article😳 Script-writing does need to be a collaborative process to a certain extent. I think the fact that it’s not just the producers but two other directors and the other actresses also wanted revisions means that the changes must have been needed. It’s very telling that two such different directors like Shim Na Yeon and Lee Eung Bok had an issue with the “same part and the same point” in the script according to the article. The new script recruited an exceptional cast which makes me think that the changes were for the better.

      • @Sunny
        There’s nothing to sorry for.
Well, if only one some questionable part was removed it’s another case.
Yes, probably they re-wrote it for the better, although now I’m intrigued which part and why need to be changed so much 😄

    • @alyza Lol I don’t think she was offered it.

It was meant to be Song hye kyo and han sohee, Idc if the current pairs are better actors I was looking forward to SJK and HSH, I can just imagine their chemistry. Oh well song hye kyo is booked with that NHK drama now.

    • I think it may have clashed with ‘Queen of Tears’ filming because TPoC was originally supposed to start filming earlier. QoT filming dragged on longer than expected so Kim Ji Won was still filming until end of Feb/beginning of Mar.

      • Not to hate, but I’m baffled as to how Jiwon could be offered the same script. She has a different aura, very feminine, and it’s hard to imagine her in a badass role. I’m so bitter since I like the supporting cast. I just hope Song Hye Kyo and Han Sohee work together again. They both seemed so excited and kept commenting on each other’s IG. Song Hye Kyo even sent a food truck, so it’s such a shame. I hope in the future they get cast in something like killing eve. I’m meh on KGE but JDY is a queen so I might still watch.

      • Kells sh1tting on Kim Jiwon, are you another jealous actress fan? or an oppa fan? lol

She was offered this script, HZ confirmed. You cannot confirm something that is not true in their industry you moron.

        https://mydramalist.com/article/kim-ji-won-responds-to-reports-of-her-starring-in-the-price-of-confession

Anyway, I am not sure if we are talking about the same Jiwon here as yes she is femininie aura, but so far she has been taking a bad ass role like Myung Joo, Aera even Haein so the fck you blabbing about? You commenting about Jiwon multiple times smell bitterness and jealousy to her

      • @Kells: I don’t think it’s baffling. Kim Ji Won is a much more talented and more versatile actress than the mediocre HSH. Casting KJW would have been a significant upgrade for the drama. The descriptions of the character ‘Mo-eun’ don’t mention anything related to being a “badass” anyway so I’m not sure why that’s even a consideration. Although if the character was a badass I’m sure KJW could pull that off too! 😉

I think the SHK and HSH interactions were mainly just mediaplay for the drama as they haven’t had any interaction since their involvement with the project fell apart.

      • I’m not an oppa fan. I don’t stan male actors. I don’t even see what I said as offensive ; I don’t see KGE fans coming for me when I said I find her to be meh. Saying KJW has a different aura than the other names is not an insult I feel the same about many other actresses like PBY or LSY, like those names for a romance drama yes I see the vision, does that mean I’m hating lol. If you take it as such, that’s on you.

      • I love Kim Jiwon. She was so captivating and badass in Arthdal Chronicles, and she was my pick for a win for best actress in MLN. Basically, what I’m saying is don’t judge her by QOT, that’s a mistake as is the pairing, I feel the same way about KGE accepting that awful drama with that mediocre actor (only blip in her stellar cv). I’m rooting for her to pick a better role that utilizes her skills better this could’ve been an opportunity but ofcourse I’m biased and happy KGE took it, it’s a reunion with her and JDY so you just know chemistry will be good too. That Kells user probably means KJW and the list of actresses she mentioned don’t have that edgy/girl boss vibe.. I bet her other fav is Jongseo.

      • @kells check out kjw in mr. sunshine, it was just a short cameo but proves she can do badass roles. hoping she’ll get more roles like that in the future

      • @Jan – you KJW fans need to tone it down and stop swearing first of all. If you disagree with an opinion, state it and the whys like others are doing instead of jumping around accusing others of being oppa or unnie fan girls when there was zero indication of them being so. Its not like the person you are responding to is a regular hater or whatever. Grow up.

  3. There were so many casting change ups for this drama and yet they ended up with the absolute best possible version. That’s impressive in itself. Really looking forward to it!

  4. Thank you to all 3 actresses who declined the drama! JDY and KGE in a female centric thriller is not just an upgrade. It’s an entirely different class so hells yeah!

    • Yup. I’m sorry but HSH, SHK and KJW are all good actresses but they are nowhere near the level of JDY and KGE. Its crazy how the production offered it first to those three when they could have gotten two actresses who are wildly more capable and talented. I guess they initially went for a popular at the moment casting approach.

      • I agree with what you’re saying but kim goeun is the most popular actress at the moment, her film done very well but SHK and HSH would bring international buzz.

      • “wildly more capable and talented”. I don’t understand why people can’t praise one actresses without putting down others, especially the good one. I don’t know what kind of character Kim Go Eun will play, but I’m sure Kim Ji Won can nail it too. She is versatile actress, in all of her roles she plays completely different characters and success that every time like chameleon, even in that cameo for Mr. Sunshine.
Kim Ji Won got offer with new crew for that drama, the same crew who offered the script for KGE. So they already considered as actresses at the same level.
It seems if actress didn’t act in woman centric drama or in a thriller genre she’s not considered as versatile or A-actress level by audience, but the difference of all KJW roles speaks for itself.

  5. I’m a bit apprehensive about this because of all the previous changes with the cast and crew, I don’t think an entire production being overhauled is a good thing in general. But I’m still very interested in this because duh, women-centric plot with JDY and KGE.

  6. Saying this as someone who likes both Song Hye Kyo and Han So Hee, this casting is definitely an upgrade, acting-wise. Really excited about the chemistry of the two ladies! And Park Hae Soo is hot hot hot to me on top of being an excellent actor, so I’m definitely seated for this!

  7. I don’t know if it’s a complete upgrade from SHK and HSH since their visuals are immaculate—you just have to stare. As for the other actress, 💯 in every way. As the user above said, what was the production even thinking?”

  8. My girl has been smart over the past few years, taking female-centric projects. She’s free from these oppa stans/shippers who continue to drag her and downplay her success as if she needed him. I just hope she never works with a Hallyu actor again. Most of them aren’t even good actors, like that guy, but his fans will convince you he’s better, such a joke. Besides than more women, I hope she works with actors like Sukku, Lee Jehoon, and Kyo-hwan.

    • By “your girl” I’m assuming you mean SHK? Well, her next project is supposedly with Gong Yoo, so yeah, she is working with another hallyu actor.

    • careful, you’ll trigger that lunatic ady person who worships the ground lmh walks on lol. not that i want her to appear in this comment section, it’s already messy as is lmao. but it would be funny watching her dilemma of defending lmh while not being able to bash go eun as she also like go eun🤭

but i agree with you, i’m loving go eun’s choices of dramas so far. except for the messy tkem era, she hasn’t been trapped in shipping/fandom wars and nonsense stan stuff like that. so many girls/women in kdrama community/fandom have severe case of internalized misogyny and pick-me syndrome so of course they love downplaying actresses while lifting up actors, even in cases when the female lead is waaay more talented than the male lead. standard behavior from them, and it’s so sad to witness.

hope she continues choosing dramas like this and little women. her and kim taeri are defo my faves from this generation

      • I swear Goeun could have an Oscar and these LMH fan girls would still downplay it. Even her recent award win they made it about IG likes, that’s the best they could do😂😂. But it’s not specific to KGE, toxic SJK fan girls were also vile towards JYB, when SJK himself seemed to adore her.

  9. The new cast is certainly a huge upgrade. It totally changes the quality and expectations for the drama.

It’s interesting to think of the different combinations that could have been
    Directors:
Lee Eung-bok (Descendants of the Sun, Guardian: The Lonely and Great God, Mr. Sunshine, Jirisan)
Shim Na Yeon (The Good Bad Mother, Beyond Evil, At Eighteen)
Lee Jung-hyo (Crash Landing on You, Romance is a Bonus Book, The Good wife, Life on Mars)

    Actresses
Song Hye Kyo and Han So Hee
Jeon Do-yeon and Kim Ji Won
Jeon Do-yeon and Kim go Eun

My ideal combination would have been PD Shim Na Yeon and either JDY with KJW/KGE or SHK with KGE could have been an interesting combination. I would also like to know who director Shim Na Yeon would have cast if she had a choice.

  11. Opinions about Kim Go-eun have definitely changed here. During the King: Eternal Monarch era, she faced criticism for her acting and looks ( from trolls). Honestly, she had little chemistry with GY and LMH. Now, she’s doing better because she’s picking scripts with substance that focus on her, good for her.

    • Why are u lying. Her and GY are beloved in SK, LMH is literally cardboard so who can blame her. She doesn’t even need those hallyu stans, I agree with the above their acting is overrated. There’s a certain actress with a defensive fandom, with an overrated chemistry, it’s not on him since he’s proven to be a chemistry king.

    • I expect she and her agency chose those KES projects to have some commercial hits on her resume but her characters in both dramas were poorly written and that was most viewer’s introduction to her acting so it left the impression that she is a poor actress. To this day I do not understand why they made her character a childish high school student in Goblin to have her romance a 1000 year old man. And in King Eternal Monarch drama the script was a mess with more attention on product placement screentime than the screenplay. It also seemed in both dramas the writer and director were more invested in the male lead and his bromances over developing the female lead character which didn’t help KGE’s performance. She has definitely redeemed herself in her dramas since and most people’s opinions have changed for the better.

  12. How the tides have turned. Most here and on Reddit etc used to hate on KGE’s acting, and no it wasn’t just LMH fangirls, casual viewers too. Her performances in Goblin and King Eternal Monarch were not good but you can also blame the writer for that. Since staying away from KES, she’s thriving. Projects like Yumi’s Cells and Little Women have done wonders for her.

  13. Laugh out loud at all the much ado in the threads above. It’s amusing to read comments comparing actresses again. Those who are so sure about certain actresses being on higher levels than the others are even more comical. LOL. I always read similar angst from the same commenters. This is so funny!

I agree KGE wasn’t that appealing in Goblin. She and the ML (as well as the 2nd ML) were the main reasons why I couldn’t get into Goblin even the drama created so much buzz. But my personal preference doesn’t negate that KGE is rated as one of the best actresses out there. I still keep my mind open to her dramas even I’ve never liked any of hers so far.

SHK and KJW have proven themselves respectable too. No need to dismiss them in order to elevate the others. They all have their own unique acting styles and very recognizable on screen. One’s own preference isn’t the definition of the best. Some comments just don’t show this understanding and rationale.
