Zhao Lu Si and Peng Guan Ying Reportedly Sign on for Big Budget Modern Romance C-drama Filming in October 2024

So C-actress Zhao Lu Si is currently filming Love’s Ambition with William Chan and that is scheduled to wrap in September next month. Industry casting and production gossip has it that she’s already signed on and selected her next drama, it’s an S+ level production and a modern romance. The title is tentatively 流鱼 (Liu Yu translating as Flowing Fish) and is an original script and not adapted from a novel. The male lead is also already signed on as Peng Guan Ying, who was most recently seen as the douchey first boyfriend in The Tale of Rose and who may be back on the small screen before year end as the faceswapped in new male lead opposite Yang Zi in The Golden Hairpin which has been languishing on the shelf for three years due to the original male lead going to prison. I’ll keep an eye out for when this is confirmed.

    • Also, why would you give a romance a big budget? I read the director offered Lusi role because of her performance in The Story of Pearl Girl. That’s why I’m skeptical about the romance aspect.

  2. Another old uncle ML?

Good lord what is going on with Zhao Lu Si and her agency?

Plenty of young and handsome actors to pick from but they pair her up with one uncle after another.

    • @zen
Yeah he is too old for Zhao Lu Si. Please pair hee up with youthful looking men.

I also think he is a bit too old for the part of the golden hairpin but I guess it wasn’t easy to find a replacement actor. I don’t think they pay him a lot coz they already paid kris wu.

      • How old is an “uncle” in Chinese “China” culture? My father is ten years older than my mom. They are traditional Chinese but they live in SEA. Most of my aunts’ husbands are eight to twelve years older than them.

      • Peng guan ying is 38 but looks like in his mid 40s due to his nature looks and vibe.

William Chan is also 38 and has slightly youthful looks but he looks like he is losing some hair.

And Zhao Lusi 25, looks like a teenage girl in adult dresses.

    • The drama with William Chan is intentional because the characters are very different in age. Not sure about this drama yet. Popular young male actors probably do not want to be her second billing because they have mass fanbases. Older retiring uncles are her best bet for a match who may agree to do dramas with ZLS and her very demanding team. LOL…

    • I also agree with you. She’s been pairing with B-list MLs who got instantly famous because their collaboration. I blame solely to her agent especially for the last 2 dramas she’s on – it took them over 2 months break to start anew.Like her agent purposely get her 2nd rated MLs, like she has no option but settle with less recognize actors, not just about age gap but also popularity. She’s been proved herself many times over but still need to put up with back paddling from her agent.

  3. Eh, this is a carry job. Older, good actor to try and carry her through a more serious drama.

Then she picks up all the credit. Typical operation in cent.

  4. What’s the average age of Koala’s readers that the likes of Peng Guanying are called uncle – 13? Or a more generous guess – 16? No wonder a few replies here are quite immature.

This said, we’ve indeed seen a growing trend of babies-adults pairings in Cdramas. While some are justified due to the dramas’ theme/story (e.g. Dating in the Kitchen, and the age gap is actually addressed!), concern could be laid on why there is not more dramas with pairings of 30’s-40s age groups, like the ones with PGY-Cao Wenjing, Wallace Chung-Li Xiaoran, etc.

  5. Peng Guan Ying is not one of my top picks for romcom any day. His vibe is very mature and much better suited for thrillers imho. But he matched well with Wang Churan in a medical drama and if I stretched my imagination, might fit well with ZLS in a non romantic role.

I’m interested in seeing LuSi outside of romcom roles. Might be good to see her in a thriller or even police procedural. Would be good to see her outside of her comfort zone.

    • Yes I want to see her in non-romantic roles. This will give her a chance to really prove herself also. There are roles like this for men, why can’t a woman have this also?

  6. another old uncle & non-popular to become of ZLS new ML coz becoz no younger/popular wants to co-star w/ a green tea character.
