I would say it’s been a great year for TW-actress Chen Qiao En (Joe Chen) as she successfully transitioned to the elder stateswoman role of evil stepmom in hit C-drama The Double and also got married. She’s 45 years old so playing the mom/aunt role isn’t a stretch it’s just that most of us remember her as the fresh ingenue from twenty years ago hustling to make ends meet before meeting her frog who is really a prince. Most of her same gen TW-actresses all got married one after another in the last ten years so she is one of the last remaining still single until now, as she tied the knot with her non-celeb husband Alan who comes from a wealthy Malaysian family and the two met on a Chinese dating program and turned reel into real. They’ve been dating for a few years now so it’s not a fly by relationship and seems really low key and lovely from what they’ve shared. At the wedding were some of her girl group Seven Flowers mates as her bridesmaids and also her drama costars Ming Dao and Joe Cheng as groomsmen.

I know she is 45 but she looks like she is in her 30s. She looked too young in The Double for her role especially opposite WJY who is in her 30s and looked too mature to be playing an 18 year old.

I thought it made sense that Chen Qiao-en looked young since men like to get younger women for second wives and the actress who played her daughter is a younger actress who is 18 years younger than her in real life.
I know right… That was so awkward to watch both in same scene while WJY calling her mom…

Yes, her acting was really good. I thought she looked familiar and I was so surprised when I saw the name as I was used to her youth Taiwanese dramas from back in the day.

Awwwww, I’m thrilled for her and her husband could have been a celeb. He’s so good looking! Also love that Ming Dao and her are still so close. They were my fav Taiwanese couple in my teenage years and I’ve seen all their dramas together (even that crap historical one). Congrats to the newly weds!
So happy to see her happy and the wedding pictures look beautiful. I love how she stayed friends with that early generation of idol taiwanese actors. It didn’t feel like a stretch that she played a mom character, but it was definitely jarring to see her play a bad guy since I’m so used to seeing her as the sweet, relatable gal. And she played the evil stepmom wonderfully!
