Chinese and Korean Actresses Smacking Shirts Often in Same Outfits with Different Vibes

The phenomenon that is smacking shirts (Chinese colloquial slang for wearing the same outfit) has really crossed country and industry lines so much so that it’s a stark reminder that there aren’t that many fashion houses out there. If we take the top ten from France, Italy, and US, chances are there is only so many red carpet, performance, and press event dresses and ensembles that can be worn at any given season, and of course the top stars are only going to show up in that season’s outfits thanks to endorsement deals and generally needing to lead the fashion trend. Wearing the same outfit allows for an apples-to-apples comparison of who looks better, and if it’s not the same country star then also shows how the aesthetics differ in accessorizing and makeup. Check out a comprehensive look at the cases of smacking shirts, with C-actress Yang Mi leading the pack by a looooong shot in how often it happens with/to her and how she actually ends up winning.

  1. Shu Qi pretty much wins all of her instances, the only Korean actresses who win theirs are Jun Jihyun in the high waisted trouser/patterned shirt combo on the red carpet (the aura of a tall former model, she even comes close with the Raf Simons Dior 2013 skirt and top combo, if only she had put her hair back) and Song Hye Kyo in that yellow dress, her dark hair makes a nice contrast with the yellow while the blonde lady with the fake tan looks like she’s all one colour.

  2. There are certainly a lot of fashion houses, I think they just don’t want to ‘downgrade’ to smaller names. Many of them are sponsors too, so it’s likely they aren’t accepting the smaller deals. It’s all scoring the big names. For smaller artists and pop groups, fans always make a big deal about how they’ve ‘made it’ by becoming brand ambassadors to giant fashion brands.

  3. Love Yang Mi’s vibe with clothes. Always looks camera ready. She wears the clothes rather than lets the clothes wear her.

  4. Beyond the fact that there are limited big fashion houses and everyone has limited supply to work with, this also indicates that none of these Korean and Chinese stars have the “pull” to demand exclusivity from the house with their outfits. The really big stars can demand no one else wear the same collection and even designer for big events (e.g. Nicole Kidman with Jean Paul Gaultier for Oscars where she won).

  5. Some of these looks you can tell are a little dated but for some reason, the same outfit on Nini looks more current. I wonder if it’s her laid back styling? She is such a good model for fashion.

  6. First photos – I think Yoona looks better with the taller statue. I like Yang Mi shoes but she looks short as compared. The Yellow Dress – I think Blake Lively looks much better in it. SHK is way too conservative, and her knees… (very wrinkly)… Unpopular opinion – when SHK is placed next to KTH, her trunk looks very wide. Also her face looks bloated next to the other lady (sorry don’t know her name) in the black dress with white collar. In conclusion, it is best not to compare. Cheers!
