Lee Jin Wook and Hyeri in Talks for jTBC Legal Drama Esquire — 53 Comments

    • Esquire is a courtesy title given to U.S. attorneys. It’s usually abbreviated Esq., and I’m guessing that’s what the title refers to.

      • Let’s try not to be flippant and gross about what happened?

She accused him of rape and then he sued her for the accusation and the courts decided something like it wasn’t violent enough to be considered rape, even though it wasn’t consensual.

      • @Rose
No, they didn’t decide “it wasn’t violent enough”.
You seems don’t know much about this case.
I don’t know much either, I know only:

“Lee Jin Wook’s side: “There was no telling who started it. It progressed naturally. Lee Jin Wook also was examined for injuries at the police station. There were none to be found on his body. If there had been use of force, A would have resisted. There is not one single nail mark [on Lee Jin Wook’s body].”
The agency added that it is doubtful that the plaintiff reported the assault only on July 14. She also visited the hospital before filing the complaint but only submitted the injury report on July 17. The injury report was submitted only a day after Lee filed a countersuit.
..Lee Jin Wook’s side is skeptical of the injury report, as it was done two days after the alleged incident.

A’s side claims that she had never been to the police station, and didn’t know proper procedure. “When she was submitting her complaint, they told her to bring evidence. That was the evening of July 14. Photos were then taken, and the injury report was written on July 15.”
I don’t know if his guilty or not so I’m not on his side, I’m talking only about court work.

      • Oh, and agree, the way Meemaw wrote “he had sex with woman, she cry rape” sounds really flippant and gross.
You sound bitter on her, but you don’t know how it really was. Read more about the case, it’s the one you can’t 100% say he’s guilty or innocent.

  1. how does this man keep getting casted with his crap acting and mediocre looks? so many better options out there. also hate the age gap… couldn’t watch Mr Sunshine, despite the rave reviews and tried my best to ignore the main couple in Goblin

  2. The synopsis doesn’t mention anything about romance so I am hoping they do not have a loveline because the obvious age gap is ick. Hoping it will just be a workplace drama.

Hyeri just turned 30 but is very youthful looking to the point she is still playing student roles so this is a great opportunity for her to play a grown-up character in a professional role and the director is good. He directed Flex X Cop which was a pleasant surprise and I really enjoyed (sidenote: I want the Flex X Cop Season 2 we were promised by SBS and the cast!)

Ugh at Lee Jin Work. His past controversy aside I just do not like his blah acting. Yes, BH Ent are a powerful agency but clearly people in the industry like this guy because for some reason he keeps getting roles in respected projects with leading directors and actors where they could cast other actors in his age group. In past year alone he has been cast with Shin Hae Sun, Suzy, Song Hye Kyo, Squid Game 2. I don’t get his appeal at all!

    • I don’t have opinion on his private life, but he really doesn’t appeal on screen. I watched dear hyeri and ugh there was scene he was supposed to be surprised that his ex doesn’t remember meeting him, cause that was her other personality. He expressed that by bulging his eyes, nothing else. I never knew that he was actually that bad

      • @yuhyi: 🤣🤣🤣 hahahaha. Sounds terrible. Probably too much botox for facial expressions.

  3. Neither can act so what’s the point of this casting. Who is gonna do the heavy lifting here? I’m surprised this guy still has investors n backers in the k ent industry but who am i kidding.. when literal criminals are still out there getting jobs

    • hahaha same sentiments.

While I like her in very light romcoms, but in everything else I am gonna pass. So, I am gonna pass.
Then for him, I just can’t look at him the same. additionally, acting wise he did not improve some, and heavy lifting acting not in his corner too.
This definitely is an easy pass for me.

    • Who’s except him of literal criminals getting the jobs? I know only about his case and didn’t see any other equivalent in k-drama industry (except some drug cases).

    • Aha haha. Period. I haven’t ever made it through either of their dramas with them in ML roles. WHAT A WASTE. Frustrating when there is such a drop of releases these days.

    • I wish that Yoon Eun Hye had the same agency . I miss her , 6 years since her last drama . I think that i will never see her again in drama land . I don’t know all about the Lee Jin Wook’s case but he isn’t that great as an actor , others more talented than him are struggling !

      • Me too!!! 😔 She must be busy these few months as her Youtube uploads have reduced. I do miss her…😢

I am actually glad to find someone here that likes her…can chat with you once awhile about her.

      • Of course, we can talk about her whenever you want . I do miss her at every end of the year as it means that another year has gone without seeing her in a drama . Her scandal happened 9 years ago . Others with scandals already managed to make a come back . I know that almost of her fans are international , one can see it when reading the comments …My hope is fading away …sad because she may not have been the best actress but she was my fav because of her incredible charisma and aura . Until now i never see a rookie actress having such an impact as her back in the days .

      • @cahill: For sure if YEH had a powerful agency like BH Entertainment she probably could have salvaged her acting career. It is hard to believe now how high her popularity was at one time with some of the biggest hallyu hits ever and how far her career fell off. Fame can be so fleeting.

      • Sad about Yoon Eun-hye. At this point, I’d rather she go the route of Han Chae-young (her mid-2000s Hallyu peer) and do a daily soap opera if it means seeing her on screen again.

      • @Dakchigo ,i do remember Han Chae young very well Sassy girl Choon hyang, Only you, … after her wedding she lost her pouplarity too and she recently made a come back with a daily drama . I was happy for her . Even Kim Jung Hyun is currentky doing a KBS week end drama Iron Family after the “thing” with Seo Ye ji his career suffered a bit as he was doing very well . And now he is offered a new role ! Yoon Eun Hye said multiple times that she wanted to act again but i still don’t get her agency strategy !

    • Yeah, among recent release, mr plankton was as expected a disappointment. Face me with lee minki and han jihyun is quite good, the topic of reconstructive surgery and police seems to be good match. I think this will be lee minki another recommended drama after crash

  4. ugh I was happy to hear new Hyeri drama but then I saw it wasnt romance just when I was going to feel disappointed, I saw the partner & end up feeling glad about genre at least…

  5. I don’t even particularly like Hyeri as an actress, but she deserves a better partner… Dude is as bland as a rock and really is everywhere thanks to his agency.

  6. U guys should stop criticising actors they are only human. U do this and later they committe sucide. The are just trying to make a living like the rest of us. So please stop

    • Wait, doesn’t he have a r*pe allegation against him? If it’s true that he r*ped someone, then it’s not just him being “only a human who made a mistake”, he literally committed a crime and should be held accountable for it.

There’s also a difference between bullying (bashing celebrities’ looks, sending them funeral wreaths even tho they’re still alive, throwing hate to them if they date someone, etc.) and valid criticisms. He’s an actor, it’s his job to act, so if he’s bad at his job, then people have every right to criticize him. You know, just like how ordinary people get criticism in the office or something if they’re not doing their job properly?

    • most of these comments aren’t even out of line. no comment on his personal life. but he’s an actor and he’s supposed to be able to act. people can’t criticize him for being bad at his job? do you not get performance reviews at work? he’s proven to be a terrible actor time and time again. it’s even more obvious when he gets paired with actual talent like Shin Hyesun. he also gets casted in big name dramas, when some actual talented people can barely get jobs.

    • It’s not like any of the criticisms were about his personal life and his past scandal. Most, if not all, of the comments touched on his acting skills (or lack thereof). He is an actor and his acting is open for everyone to critique, just like every single actor who stars in kdramas and movies. Thing is he’s been in so many projects lately but he’s never shown any improvement or any kind of acting that would justify why he’s been getting cast in high-profile projects.

  7. I wonder if there is a money laundering angle in drama business. Why would anyone cast these two otherwise! LJW has charm of a wet mop and as much as I like Hyeri, she has non existent acting skills. LOL

  8. I can’t stand Hyeri’s acting. I loved her on in Reply 1988 but her acting has not been diverse. In fact, I find all her current performances very cringe worthy. I hope she improves and playing a lawyer will be a challenge she needs but already I only see a brother and sister chemistry between the two.

  9. I only ever liked the main actor in the drama called “Someday”and another that was a bit mediocre called “Powerful Opponents”, any thing else he was in bored me and his awkward eyebrows always distracted me. He was also in that one famous movie “Miss Granny” but like I mentioned he was more appealing then. Not so much now so yes maybe his backing is pretty good cause I’m not sensing his potential as main lead status.

    • Love Kim Jaewook! I feel like I haven’t seen him in a long time other than that short cameo for Death Game. A little bit younger, but I’m also a huge Lee Soohyuk fan. I would love to also see him get more/better opportunities. Used to love So Jisub, but his last few drama picks have been duds for me.

    • Kim Jae Wook is so criminally underrated, it’s actually insane lol. That man’s face is a work of art, so handsome and chiseled! And he’s such a talented actor too. I don’t get why he’s not more famous. You can’t even say that it’s because the industry is looks-obsessed, since he’s a pretty man too and other actors who are less good-looking, less talented, and less charismatic than him are getting roles (like mediocre Lee Jin Wook over here lol). Kim Jae Wook also has the type of visuals that usually get fawned over (with talent to back up his beauty), so I don’t understand why the man is underrated as hell lol

    • Wow, we’re kindred spirits being fans of YEH and KJW! It’s so sad to think now that Coffee Prince lost 2 cast members well before their time.
I’m just grateful we got KJW in the less serious HPL drama.

  10. Oh gosh I’m so much agreed about some comments about LJW’s acting. I can’t even recall when and in which drama I watched him last time. He’s just like nonexistent and forgettable. LOL. Hyeri as the FL doesn’t help at all.

  11. Every casting news about Lee Jin Wook just prove to me how powerful BH Entertainment. Or maybe he popular in Korea, I don’t know. And yet Park Sung Hoon doesn’t have such casting news! What the h?? He filmed in The Glory, Queen of tears, The Kidnapping Day, all dramas with good ratings and response. He got praises for his acting a lot, he played remarkable characters, why BH not getting to him drama offers as main lead as much as to LJW?? I’m glad PSH filming in Squid game, but I really wish to see him as main-main lead more often, and better in high-profile dramas. I mean, as a MAIN lead, not as a part of assembly cast, although it’s also a good thing.
I’m sorry I talk about the actor not related to the topic.

  12. I feel like the script must be one of those from the lower parts of the barrel. Like other recognizable actors either have projects lined up or don’t want the roles, so these two got the offers. I feel like a lot of casting is just a lot of compromise of who’s available for filming, who they can afford to pay, and who can pull in investors.

I like Hyeri, so I’m a little sad that this drama and her costar don’t feel appealing to me.
