Kim Jung Hyun Offered Male Lead in K-drama A Hundred Memories Opposite Kim Da Mi and Shin Ye Eun
Oh this is coming along nicely! K-actor Kim Jung Hyun is in talks for the male lead of K-drama A Hundred Memories. It’s a female-lead centric story with two actresses headlining in Kim Da Mi and Shin Ye Eun, taking place in the 1980’s with both leads playing bus conductor ladies but coming from disparate backgrounds. Kim Jung Hyun is a college student and third generation chaebol with talent and dreams who gets entangled with these two women. The drama is from the PD of Thirty-Nine and the screenwriter of Crash Course in Romance.
Oh, I hoped Huh Nam-Jun was the main lead. I’m not a fan of KJH but Huh Nam-Jun was really good in The Matchmakers.
Love KJH. He’s brilliant in everything he does. If he’s chosen this role voluntarily, I believe it’s gonna be really good because he’s got a knack for choosing great dramas.
The cast is impeccable & the writer is amazing. Can’t wait!
I get the feeling that the main actor has lost his footing in staying relevant and present as an actor. Hope he is okay.
I hope the drama doesn’t focus too much on any love triangle shenanigans. I am more interested in the female characters and their friendship and unique work in this era.
Heo Nam Joon was announced as part of the cast recently so I thought he was going to be the lead but I guess he is supporting and Kim Jung Hyun is the actual male lead? KJH is doing a KBS weekend family drama currently but they do not really have the same prestige (or budget) as primetime evening dramas so it seems like the industry thinks he has paid his dues after his unfortunate past issues if he is receiving offers like this again. It’s a very good cast and good writer/director so this is a promising “comeback” opportunity for KJH.
I do feel sorry for any male lead who has to live up to the expectations from the half a day of ecstatic hysteria when people erroneously thought they were getting a Kim Da Mi and Choi Woo Shik reunion in this drama lol🤣
That family drama seems to be a good one. Or at least “not bad”. I watched only 4 episodes and didn’t made my opinion about it yet. And I didn’t watch other family dramas, but saw many reviews people telling the quality of that fam drama better than others
I’m watching it too, at least for now it’s quite good. Most family drama fails in the middle to the end cause they would put too much filler, so this drama might not be safe too. But kjh is so funny in that drama lol 😂 he is really made for comedy, I liked him since watching waikiki
@Yuhui
I read they reduced the amount of episodes till 36, so maybe Iron Family wil escape such slump.
Thanks for review ☺️ I quite enjoy to watch that drama, hope it will be good till the end
That’s probably because it’s the same writer as When the Camillia Blooms and the up coming Ask The Stars. She normally never writes weekenders only big budget and high profile mini series.
I’ve never been able to look at him the same since the whole Seo Yeji incident.
Just don’t be so into in someone’s personal life. His lawyer already made statement many years ago that his past relationship has nothing to do with his work.
I read comments of some Soo Hyun’s fans that she kinda forgave him, so seems this incident is over.
*Seohyun
KJH has a quirky aura on screen and his presence stood out in the past dramas but not necessarily pleasing to my liking, prolly because of the roles he played? I hope this new drama will offer him new chance of breakthrough.
He doesn’t have male lead energy to me.
I didn’t have this impression, but that’s probably because I’ve seen him exclusively in comedies like Welcome to Waikiki and Iron Family where his derpy vibes really work well.
@Someboy @rina: I know what you mean. He is talented but in the past he always gives me a nervy and quirky energy like somebody who would be a better fit in character roles like Koo Kyo-hwan rather than than typical lead roles. He is looking a lot healthier now than before and seems to be in a better place mentally so maybe he will be better fit for this type of confident chaebol role now.
@Sunny, I actually think he is very nice looking and I once again am not shy of announcing myself being a shallow visual freak. LOL. He doesn’t have typical debonair and swagger I’d expect to see in a ML role though. I’m interested to see how he will fare as a chaebol.
@Rina, I was impressed by him in Crashing Landing on You. But then he as the ML for Mr. Queen and Season of Deity looked so detached IMO. You said it right. He somehow didn’t show ML energy in those dramas.
I thought Heo Nam Jun will be male lead. Anyway, they’re both good actors, so it’s not really matter who’s one of them main lead.
But better if both, and this love triangle will turn into two couples plot.
Right. The early synopsis made it sound like there was a love triangle with Heo Nam Jun’s character but now it looks like there will be two male love interests so will likely have two couples which is much better.
Hmm… Seems like I’m in the minority here who likes Kim Jung Hyun lol. He already stood out to me when I saw him in supporting roles years ago and predicted that he’ll be a male lead in the future. Dude is talented and I happen to find him handsome too, tho I understand his looks wouldn’t be everyone’s cup of tea.
I don’t really care about his personal drama. The “Time” fiasco was years ago, he apologized already without blaming anyone, Seohyun already forgave him, everyone moved on already, and it’s not like he committed a crime, so I don’t get what’s the issue (I’m talking about some people who still bring up the whole fiasco to bring him down lol). Also, not to excuse his actions, but he was also in a really bad mental state at that time. Good for him that he’s slowly building up his career again, and with an acclaimed co-star like Kim Da Mi too, because that Kokdu drama was NOT it, and having Im Soo Hyang as her leading lady after Shin Hye Sun was such a downgrade lol. In my opinion, everyone deserves second chances, as long as they didn’t commit a heavy crime.
Agree with you, what he did wasn’t crime, and he already apologized. He is originally such warm person from what I see on behind the scenes of school 2017.
I agree. I have always said if he were female he would have received a lot more sympathy. He suffered from mental health issues, had an eating disorder and was in a toxic relationship which was further exacerbating his poor mental health. He has sincerely apologised, received medical treatment, put his head down and put in the work. He seems to now be much better mentally and physically so I wish him well as he is a talented actor.
I didn’t even know he had a drama with Im Soo Hyang last year. Seems like it didn’t make much of a blip on anyone’s radar. No offence to ISH but this project with an acclaimed leading actress is certainly an upgrade.
It is good his career did not tank and he can slowly build from it. To be honest, I dont think most sensible SK netizens are really disliking him and blaming him anymore. He is a victim in their eyes now.
I may not a fan of him but that was even before the incident, I am glad his career is still on going.
I like KJH. I think he’s a great actor and handsome. He looks natural, which is not something you can say about many male and female South Korean actors. Personally, I don’t get the Korean obsession with plastic surgery but it’s refreshing to see an actor that doesn’t look like a plastic doll.
I’ll definitely looking forward seeing this upcoming drama.
I don’t know how I feel about this one, but I absolutely loved him in Crash Landing on You and I’m still waiting for a drama reunion between him and Seo Ji Hye. Producers need to run with that reunion and a reunion between Business Proposal 2nd leads Kim Min Kyu and Seol In Ah.
I like him. He has been good in everything I have seen him in. And he can do comedy really well. Happy his career has seemingly survived the scandal.
