So the two big male lead period C-dramas that were rumored to air in December 2024, only one arrived. It’s Guardians of the Dafeng on December 28th and the other The Immortal Ascension with Yang Yang will now air three months later in March 2025. After what happened to Youku when it aired The Story of Pearl Girl head to head with Tencent‘s Love Game in Eastern Fantasy last month, it’s just smarter to not do a high noon showdown and air a drama when there is more room to breath, and the production may made adjustments now that Guardians is now a runaway hit in order to learn from any missteps. So Yang Yang fans will have to wait a little bit longer to see him back on the small screen, as well as fans of the source material based on the novel A Mortal’s Guide to Immortality.

Oh is Guardians of the Dafeng a hit now? Please this is a genuine question I'm curious because I thought it is doing cairly average, not bad but also not that good to be a hit
True
What's considered a hit? Im curious. Is it the same level as The Double or Love Game in Eastern Fantasy which people kept talking non-stop while airing even after airing? Please enlighten me. Should i give it a try once more? Cuz i quit at ep 1.
more like Game in Eastern kinda hit in terms of viewership (average 40+mil/episode)
It hit 30,000 heat index today. Reaching that on Tencent means a drama is a super hit. Only 7 dramas on that platform managed to get 30k heat last year.
Smart move of them not to air the drama this month. January is already stacked with great dramas.
Agree...
It’s a “hit” if you go by variables that can be influenced by Wang Hedi’s massive fandom. Some fandoms are known to buy subscriptions for outsiders just to artificially inflate viewership numbers. For a S+ level production, achieving a 30k heat index isn’t a sign of roaring success, it is the minimum that can be expected.
It is definitely a flop when you look at the scathing comments and reviews from passersby. Even some of the investors dropped out midway through the broadcast. The initial Douban score of 5.4 is also not in line with it being a hit.
Just checking which drama are you talking about?
Ignore my question.. I know which drama now.
Last time I checked, there were 4 advertisements left for Dafeng. And advertisers know best, what is hit and what is not. (:
How does advertisements work in China. What do you mean with just four left.
If the drama is popular, there will be more advertisements in 2nd half, of even 1st half, if there are few to begin with. If the drama fails, advertisers run away and the only ads left are social ones (cnets don't count them).
Look at The Double case where sponsorship went from zero when it aired to myriads after a few episodes. In Dafeng it is the reverse. All of this linked to popularity
How many were there before? dropped alot?
Please stop lying, Dafeng has 7 advertisements per ep as of ep 26. The Yunhe views for Dafeng have consistently been in the top spot for days, averaging 40-50m views a day (reaching a high of more than 55m yesterday). The fact that it was able to reach 30,000 heat index despite the black marketing tactics against the show as soon as it aired show that it is an organic hit.
Haters have been leaving 1 star reviews on Douban without even watching the drama. Good hotsearches on weibo and positive reviews on douyin, bilibili for Dafeng have also been restricted/shadow banned. The drama could not have been a hit riding on Wang Hedi's fandom alone. This is a drama that slowly gained momentum through good word of mouth despite the hate campaign against it.
7 advertisements left ? Well a lot them dropped the show midway
There used to be eleven ads now there are only four left for Guardians of Dafeng, a tea brand , some kind vitamin and two creams
I am looking forward to Immortal Acesenion because Wang Duo is in it, he appears to be the main villain. He's also in The Blossoming Love which is airing now which is a pretty good example of XianXa done right...so far, for anyone interested in coherent story telling, good acting and characters (FL & SML). I remember him from Bloody Romance and Yin Yang Master where his performance stood out but he seemed to disappear for a while, happy he is back. I think I have found a actor to fangirl over lol.
There is an article in Chinese+ picture with dropping advertisements of Dafeng.

Whether a drama is a hit or no will be clear later. What matters is how many people watch the show. If it is so bad, why would they have such big viewership? Around 70% of viewers are male. Can they be Wang He Di's fans? I doubt that. As for your Douban, all the scathing comments have nothing to do with the drama, but just criticise the male lead for appearance, voice, lips, even probably the fact that he dares to breathe. If it's not hate and bullying, tell me what it is? Fans of the show and the actors even have to make content with other titles, as anything positive that has the hashtag with the name of the drama or the lead actor gets taken down very quickly on major platforms, leaving only negative stuff. The quality of production is good, CGI is good, there is an engaging plot, it's entertaining, the cast is great. I love all the characters.
Im still enjoying Guardians of the Dafeng, likely others are enjoying a low-tense viewing experience too. Looking forward to seeing Yang Yang again, its been a while...
