Yang Yang and Zhang Ruo Nan in Talks for Modern Romance C-drama Making a Second Time Paired Up
The biggest winner so far of the C-drama 2025 is undoubtedly Zhang Ruo Nan with First Frost, she’s got the most bounce from the hit drama and also the drama itself being the biggest surprise hit in Q1 of this year. She’s got plenty of dramas already inked but her next pick may likely be a modern C-drama that would reunite her with top male lead Yang Yang. The two recently filmed the period C-drama Zhan Zhao Adventures late in 2024 and now a production company is courting them for a modern period romance drama titled Winter Leaves Spring Arrives. Zhan Zhao Adventures was a big male lead centric drama about the famed Song dynasty fold hero government official Zhan Zhao so Zhang Ruo Nan doing the drama was absolutely as the accessory to the male lead. But this modern drama if both accept is an equal leads story and my only quibble is that I haven’t seen these two together yet since their drama hasn’t aired so I’m always hesitant to pair up again an onscreen couple without a proven track record of chemistry.
He has been quiet for quite a while…
China keeps on pushing boring and dull actresses like Zhang Ruo Nan forward then they wonder why the short drama circuit has been rising so fast and attracting so many viewers (look how freezing cold the market has been for a few months now).
And Yang Yang is not boring and dull at acting?
They both are somewhat average in acting and are both hit and miss with their projects. I feel they are evenly matched for that reason but he is the most attractive of the two. Just got to wait and see if they click together or not.
I don’t think it was a surprise hit at all. It was a sequel to a highly popular drama / book with Bai Jing Ting. They were more surprised that it didn’t do better.
Zhang Ruo Nan is good. Don’t get the critism. Watch the first 3 episode and she is very effective convey character own turmoil.
It’s abit pity she looks tiny look younger than her age.
She did a surprisingly fantastic job in First Frost. I think she may fit the more thoughtful, introspective type of character and more angsty/melodramatic scenes than being the perky and energetic heroine in a rom-com.
I haven’t warmed up to Yang Yang, so hope this can be an opportunity to change how I feel about him.
oh nooo I wanted her with a different actor…
