Period Intrigue and Romance C-drama The Princess’s Gambit with Liu Xue Yi and Meng Zi Yi Premieres Today June 25th on Tencent — 12 Comments

  1. Kinda similar stories. Wonder what if love never finds them, wouldn’t that make a better story? At least different. Those short dramas always had those 1st loves.

    • Me too. I am kinda disappointed that it turns out as a polygamy story, while I actually quite like Liu Xueyi’s acting, so I hope someone will lighten me up too with the ending.

  2. Haven’t read the novel yet. Is it a HE? I’ve tried the first 3 episodes and wonder if he will end up with her as his only wife. Im not interested in polygamy story. Please enlighten me..

  3. Did start it yet. Instead I watch the first three episodes of “A Dream Within a Dream” and it’s great fun. Let’s hope they know where they are going with this.

  4. I’m on the same page with other comments, not a fan of polygamy and harem politics. Besides, LXY’s acting in romantic relationships always gave me creepy vibes somehow. He may be a good actor in other roles, but I don’t see his charm as a romantic lead. I watched 2 eps and decided to quit. I will wait for MZY’s and Li Yunrui’s reunion. Back to Kdrama. LOL

  5. I can’t see the charms of LXY. He don’t even look interesting in the trailer.
MZY looks the same in every drama. I would really like to see her in a modern drama with natural make up. She is very pretty IRL.

  6. I’m just annoyed that now every Cdrama is over dramatic and filmed like mini dramas and that the male lead keeps chocking the female lead and hurting them. Is this a new feature of Cdrama? It’s gross and I’m over it

  7. *Spoiler*

In the novel the ML is actually not the one who consummates with all his wives at night; his friend who needs the human “interaction” in order to cultivate steps in, and once the ML succeeds in what he needs to do and win at the end of the novel, he banishes all the other wives and just retains the FL as his only wife.

Even if the other wives are “evil”, I don’t understand how readers find this romantic or even ethically sound. Anyone who has read the novel care to share?

I think LXY is a great actor! However, I think he would do better in political scheming or cultivation dramas where the romance takes a back seat. Even when he is clearly in love with the FL, I always get the vibe that he is planning to betray her or something even when he clearly isn’t.
