iQiyi to Schedule Period Drama Shadow Love with Song Yi and Cheng Lei for This Month End of August 2025
It’s a busy month of August for Cheng Lei, starting it off with the premiere of Legend of the Female General with Zhou Ye and likely ending the month with the premiere of Shadow Love with Song Yi. The two dramas won’t overlap for him but he will stay buzzy thanks to being on the small screen in two different platforms and also doing drama promos. Shadow Love is actually the least anticipated of all his recent dramas for me, I’m more interested in How Dare You! as he plays against type and also the currently filming Mo Li. That’s all to say low expectations and going into this drama blind about the story will be fun, I did it with The Wanted Detective and that turned out to be an entertaining watch. Finally, a female lead who can act in par with the male lead.
Probably because Song Yi has no star power. This drama would require a stellar plot to even stand out.
I adore both leads and Im scared but hopeful for this one!
Like Cheng Lei, though not a big fan of Song Yi, but the trailer looks awesome! Will definitely try some episodes.
What to say about Song Yi? Hmmmm. She’s like filtered water to me that you can’t say it’s not drinkable but simply bland, not as fresh as spring water. LOL.
I like both. I like the novel so much. But pretty much sure, they’ll change many scenes from the novel. Oh no worries, i dont have any allergy of the story changes as long as the plot is good, acting is good, chemistry is good, everything is good. Lol

I really like Cheng Lei as an actor, and I’m always rooting for underdogs and rookies with acting skills who have the potential to grow and improve if given the chance.
Song Yi is a decent actress, but I’ve never seen her receive significant praise for her acting. She’s considered quite old by Western viewers of Chinese dramas, and she does look noticeably older than her co-stars, which can be visually distracting.
I don’t have high expectations for this drama, but I hope it keeps me entertained and hooked. I can overlook flaws if the storyline pulls me in.
Wut?? Quite old at 35??? No. Western viewers like myself do NOT consider that old. Margot Robbie, Jennifer Lawrence, Taylor Swift are all 35 years old.
