Tan Song Yun and Liu Xue Yi Lead Talented Cast in Upcoming Tencent Period Family Scheming Dynamics C-drama Against the Current
There is a specific genre of slow burn family politics and romance period C-drama that if done well can be so addicting even with leisurely pace and a lot of pointed looks more than action. I’m talking about The Story of Minglan and The Sword and the Brocade, and even Yu Zheng’s more makjang take on the style in The Glory and The Double. Filming has finished for such a drama with Against the Current Starring Tan Song Yun and Liu Xue Yi, with special female supporting stars in Li Meng and Zheng Hehuizi. This should be good, it’s about a fallen noble lady who goes to the home of the powerful former fiance that dumped her and paves the way for her redemption journey while starting off as a servant there. I love the drama posters and stills so far and find Tan Song Yun and Liu Xue Yi both so beautifully understated here.
I think both leads and also both 2nd lead ladies are solid actors/actresses, plus I read the story and it’s a bit makjang (plus ML is a bit too much of an arse) but I’m hoping that they tone it down a little in the script and this should be a fun drama to watch! Really looking forward to this!

Liu Xueyi is so handsome and a good actor too, but he tends to pick bad projects… Let’s hope this one will be good!
This kind of story with this casting should be good and Im worriedly waiting for this to air.I kinda have expectations both are my bias and those costumes looks awesome.Even side casting are from my faves. Bts vids looks fun and interesting chemistry between all of them should be good while acting!

I used to avoid TSY’s dramas bc I didn’t find her attractive but glad I finally gave one of her dramas a try bc the girl has screen presence and is a very good actress. I’m a fan of hers now.
The cast looks solid with people that can act and if the have been given a good story, it will be a success. However, I think it will be yet another case of annFL being overshadowed by the 2nd and 3rd FL. Tan Songyun has this mousy, sweet girl vibe without a shred of leading lady vibe that has made her a disappointment in every single role that I have seen her in. I am not talking about her looks, but her screen presence (or lack thereof).

Never able to finish any of TSY’s dramas although I think she’s a good actress. Not sure about LXY. But other casting looks strong. So, I’ll give a shot.
